Soern Kern has been following some of the European media's reaction to the killing of Bin laden:
"European journalists have focused on whether the killing was permissible under international law; some are now calling for an international commission to investigate the American action." (Kern)
It's a bit hard to believe that anyone questions the legality of the US killing Bin Liden.
The US action was totally legal.
Unlike Libya, Pres BO was operating under a congressional resolution passed after 9-11.
Second, Bin Laden killed innocent Americans, as well as lots of others too, on 9-11. By the way, let's not forget the two embassies that blew up in Africa in 1998!
Third, self-defense is a right. We have the right to defend ourselves.
So what's going on in some European corners? I don't know for sure but anti-Americanism is often a reflex reaction over in Europe.
However, someone should remind the Europeans that it was US tanks and soldiers that kept Soviet troops from marching into Western Europe during the post Cold War period.
The US has invested billions defending Europe since World War II. Frankly, I'd like to see a little more gratitude from so many in Europe.
P.S. Our good friend, Bill Katz of Urgent Agenda, analyzed The Washington Post's editorial on the legality of the killing of Bin Laden.
Bill is right!
