A couple of Carpenters' songs that I had not heard in a long time!

I usually listen to music when I'm working out.  It's my way of killing time and remembering a few good songs.

Last weekend, I heard a couple of Carpenters' songs that reminded me how much I loved their music.

In 1981, I caught this first video on TV.

It had a nice "Happy Days" or "Grease" flavor.

However, I was amazed at how skinny Karen Carpenter looked.  She died the next year.

This is "Beechwood 4-5789", a song originally recorded by The Marvelletes and brought back by The Carpenters.

"Goodbye to love" is a wonderful arrangement.  I once heard Richard Carpenter explain the long guitar solo at the end.  They were trying to add a different sound and they certainly did:

"You can have this dance with me
You can hold my hand and whisper
In my ear sweet words, that I love to hear

(Whisper sweet words in my ear, Swet words that I love to hear)

Don't be shy, just take your time
I'd like to get to know you
I'd like to make you mine

I've been waiting, sitting here so patiently
For you to come over
And have this dance with me
and my number is beechwood 4-5789
You can call me up and have a date
Any old time

Beechwood 4-5789
You can call me up and have a date
Any old time...."

"I'll say goodbye to love
No one ever cared if I should live or die
Time and time again the chance for love has passed me by
And all I know of love is how to live without it
I just can't seem to find it

So I've made my mind up
I must live my life alone
And though it's not the easy way
I guess I've always known

I'd say goodbye to love
There are no tomorrows for this heart of mine
Surely time will lose these bitter memories
And I'll find that there is someone to believe in
And to live for something I could live for

All the years of useless search
Have finally reached an end
Loneliness and empty days will be my only friend
From this day love is forgotten
I'll go on as best I can

What lies in the future is a mystery to us all
No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls
There may come a time when I will see that I've been wrong
But for now this is my song

And it's goodbye to love
I'll say goodbye to love....."
