The morning after the opinion.....and the border is still a mess!

The bad news is that Judge Bolton blew the ruling.

By the way, I agree with The Dallas Morning's editorial:

"The judge's ruling only compounds the error of the Justice Department, which also sought, with no supporting evidence, to predict a bad outcome.

Its lawsuit ensured a judicial remedy to the state law; Arizona is almost certain to appeal Bolton's injunction to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and, ultimately, to the U.S. Supreme Court."

The good news is that this is not over and it will go to the Supreme Court.

Beyond politics, is anything being done to protect the border?

Are border citizens safer today because the Obama administration spent so much money and time filing a lawsuit?

Today, like yesterday, the US-Mexico border is a war zone.

We are living next to a country where large segments of north Mexico are under the control of the cartels.

Let's hope that the Obama administration will take seriously the national security crisis across El Paso, TX, rather than just worrying about Mexican-American turnout in November.

Bad idea to go on "The view"!

Why did I find Pres BO's appearance on "The View" so silly?

Because it is not presidential! We are fighting two wars and in the middle of a bad recession.

Jay Cost has a great post today: Obama's Vanity is a Liability for Democrats

"You cannot explain his decision to appear there without acknowledging that it was, at least in part, about the thrill he gets from being treated like a movie star.

This is not merely about public communication. This is also about vanity."

Yes, Pres BO needs a steady diet of adulation.

What's this guy going to do when his approvals drop under 40% or he suffers major losses in 2010?

I don't know but we will find out soon!

National security: Our chat with Jack Kelly

On Thursday's show, we spoke with Jack Kelly, well respected national security correspondent & political analyst.

We spoke about the situation in Afghanistan, the "Wiki leaks", the Lockerbee bomber release and the dangerous situation on the US-Mexico border.

Here is Jack Kelly's RCP archive!

First immigration and now public education: The unions will not allow "hope and change" to introduce real reforms!

Today, Pres BO gave another speech about the oceans rising and temperatures dropping.

He told us about the crisis in public education and how he is fully committed to do somehing about it.

And then he did not propose anything specific or call on Congress to reform!

On immigration, he is all 'talk" and no action. He tells us that it's a federal responsiblity but "buck never stops at his desk".

On public education, he wants us to compete worldwide but will not stand up to the teachers' union holding back reforms.

Here are some questions for Pres BO about public education:

First, what do you know about public education anyway? Like Kerry, Gore & Clinton, you sent your kids to private schools.

Second, why don't you support a "voucher" program that would allow low-income parents to choose a school for their children.

The answer is public education or teachers' unions!

On immigration, Pres BO wants reform but won't support the "work visa" program that would legalize millions to work here.

On public schools, he won't endorse the 'competition" that would force public schools to compete for parents and their kids.

Again, lots of talk but not much else!

Happy birthday Beatriz!

(The top picture is from Thanksgiving '09 at the Texas vs Texas A&M game.....the second is from her single days.....the last one is a favorite from '91)

We won't tell you how old she is......but she is a year older today.

So the 3 boys and I wish her a very happy birthday!

And we thank her for baking those special treats every Sunday morning!

And specially for being our biggest fan when we played 3 Saturday Little League baseball games.....

PONY & select baseball tournaments in the Texas summer heat.....

City basketball league games......3 on Saturday and 3 the night before!

Joining all of those mothers who decorated the locker rooms for the homecoming game.....it looked great!

Cheering the boys at the Friday night high school football games and doing the "first down" scream!

Not complaining when the boys and I listened to the Cowboys post game show on the radio every Sunday evening driving home from my parents' home......or listening to sports in the car period!

The boys & I dedicate this one to our # 1 mom & lady.

The judge's decision "is heartburn for Dems" before the November election!

Before people go too far with their anti-Arizona law celebration, let me remind you that this decision will be appealed and will eventually find its way to the Supreme Court.

This is not over to say the least. In other words, we will be debating "Arizona" all the way to the first Tuesday of November and beyond.

Guess who is not cheering the Arizona decision?

Democrats, specially Dems seeking reelection in 2010.

Who does not want to talk about the border mess?

This decision means that Pres BO now owns the border mess. He owns the violence, the killings, the chaos and the anger brewing in the border states.

Dick Morris
has a good analysis of this:

"The Arizona law is massively popular in the United States.

Over 60 percent of all American voters support it.

But the president has sought and has succeeded in stopping it from taking effect.

Now this majority — close to two-thirds of the electorate — that backs the law will be able to focus their blame for its non-enforcement squarely on the president of the United States."

Again, Pres BO now owns the border and any problems related to it.

The decision means that we will be talking about immigration reform, and/or illegal immigration, before the November election.

It will also mean that Dems in competitive elections, which is about 50 of them in House, will have to answer Arizona law questions from their constituents.

Trust me: There is no cheering behind closed doors at Dem campaign headquarters tonight!

Trust me again: There are very few Dems seeking reelection who will be praising this decision.

And last, but not least, see you at the Supreme Court!

It was so much easier when they were out of power and blamed everything on Bush!

Be careful about winning elections....you may be expected to keep your promises and actually govern!

Yesterday, the Dems voted 148-102 to support Pres BO's Afghan war effort. It passed because Republicans voted 160-32!

Yes, it passed but this is a sign of things to come.

It won't be fun for Pres BO, specially when he has to tell the base that the July 2011 deadline was just words, or telling them what they wanted to hear!

What a difference a couple of years makes.
Two years ago, "hope and change" had a speech and a solution for everything.

And he had lots of "screamers" digesting every "yes we can" nonsense coming from the candidate's teleprompter.

Today, he is reversing one promise after another, from GITMO to immigration reform.

And he will soon have to break another one, i.e. the Bush tax cuts on dividends and capital gains that expire on January 1st!

Speaking of Pres BO, we see this from Simon Heffer in the UK:

"The shock about coming to America after an absence of four months is how, in that time, respect for and confidence in President Obama has slumped.

It wasn't good in March; now the effect of what one blogger has called his apparent "impotence" has taken hold.

It is not clear what Mr Obama actually does.

He isn't engaged with the economy; he certainly isn't engaged with foreign policy; he has abandoned hope of a climate change bill this year (and probably for ever); he has seen his health care bill into law, but America awaits news of how it will be implemented; he is under attack for a casual approach to illegal immigration, notably from the Mexican narco-state."

Do you get the feeling that BO wishes that he was back in Chicago?

Giving speeches about the rising oceans?

Telling immature "screamers" what they wanted to hear?

Promoting another book about himself?

I'd bet he does!

This is one fairy tale that has gone off script!

Rehab for "yes we can" screamers: How to remove that Obama bumper sticker....

The fairy tale is turning into a nightmare for those who voted for "hope and change".

John Fund covered the "netroots", or liberal bloggers convention in Las Vegas. He found a lot of disenchantment with "hope and change"!

There is even talk of the Clinton challenging Pres BO in 2012: Clintonites Undermine Obama for Hillary 2012 Challenge

How do you get your life back?

How do you admit that you got drunk with change and voted for a man with no executive experience?

or a man who just told you what you wanted to hear?

or a man who won't close GITMO?

or the anti-war candidate who will follow the Bush plan in Iraq down to the last point?

We understand that it's hard to admit that you voted for someone who sat in Rev Wright's church and never heard a single sermon.

You can start by removing that Obama bumper sticker, or getting a removal kit for your favorite "yes we can" screamer:

What else could happen in Mexico?

We hate all of the negative stuff coming out of Mexico.

It is terrible to see what is happening south of the border.

Mexico is not a "failed state" but a lot of things are indeed failing in Mexico.

There is more and more violence: Mexican police investigate possible new drug gang after group tests credit for 6 killings

And check this one out:

"Guards and officials at a prison in northern Mexico allegedly let inmates out, lent them guns and allowed them to use official vehicles to carry out drug-related killings, including the massacre of 17 people last week, prosecutors said Sunday.

After carrying out the killings the inmates would return to their cells, the Attorney General's Office said in a revelation that was shocking even for a country wearied by years of drug violence and corruption." (AP)

We hope that the Obama administration will come to its senses about the seriousness of what is occurring south of the border.

Guess who is up 7 in the AL West?

During the All Star game, we heard some concerns about the Rangers' 2nd half schedule.

The Texas Rangers are up 7 in the AL West.

The Rangers are 8-3 since the All Star Break. They were 3-1 in Boston, 2-1 in Detroit and just took 3 of 4 from the Angels here!

And here is the best part: Cliff Lee on Thursday, CJ Wilson on Friday & Tommy Hunter on Sunday night!

Good starting pitching is now a daily thing with the Rangers!

Add Michael Young (3 hrs against the Angels) and Josh Hamilton who is leading the league with a .357 batting average! In fact:

"Since June 1, Hamilton has hit .432 with 14 homers and 47 RBIs.

The Rangers have gone 32-17 and risen from a one-game deficit in the AL West to a seven-game lead entering Monday." (Grant)

It's a lot of fun to be a Rangers' fan these days!

What exactly happened with the Lockerbie bomber?

Remember the outrage over the release of the Lockerbie bomber?

We learned this yesterday:

"The Obama administration told Scottish officials last August that, although it opposed any release of the Lockerbie bomber, it would rather see him released in Scotland than transferred to a Libyan prison, according to a secret memo obtained by The Sunday Times in London." (FoxNews)

We need more info before we jump to a conclusion.

I guess that the Obama administration can start by explaining what happened.

We remind you that 200 Americans were killed in that airplane.

Bill Katz posted this yesterday:

"I don't know how far this will go, but it's quite a disturbing story.

The claim is that President Obama deceived the nation when he said we were surprised and disappointed by Scotland's release, to Libya, of the Lockerbie bomber.

It now appears that we were not only well aware of it, but involved in negotiations on the subject...."

Happy # 67 to Mick Jagger

Yes, Mick Jagger is 67.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were the creative force behind The Rolling Stones.

Let's not forget Charlie Watts on drums, Bill Wyman on bass and the late Brian Jones playing some rhythm guitar.

The Rolling Stones were absolutely great!

It's hard to think of rock music history without their songs in the mix.

Have a nice day Mick.....and we hope to see you in another Super Bowl!

This is "Paint it black", one of their greatest songs:

There is nothing post-racial about this presidency!

As everyone knows, I did not vote for candidate BO.

Frankly, I didn't think that a first term US Senator without executive experience was ready for the most difficult job in the world.

How can any serious voter say that BO was more qualified than McCain?

What were these people smoking or drinking? How "drunk with change" can someone be?

On election night, I accepted the results and moved on. Democracy is about winning and losing elections but always accepting the will of the voters.

Like many, I was pleased to see the election of a black man and the post-racial that we were promised.

I was wrong and wrong big time.

We were promised a post-racial presidency but race relations are worse than ever!

Why hasn't our first black president improved relations?

Because he does not have the guts to stand up and tell his supporters to stop playing the race card....or tell them that you can disagree with BO without being a racist!

Sadly, Pres BO has turned out to be a huge failure for black America too.

Why isn't he calling on black men to be responsible fathers?

Or black gangs in Chicago to stop killing each other?

I guess that he is too busy looking for those isolated placards at tea party meetings. (By the way, did candidate BO ever complain about "the Bush insults" heard at his rallies?)

What a disappointment for those of us who saw "hope" in having a black president!

"The more the president appeals to his base in racial terms, the more his appointees identify themselves as members of a particular tribe, and the more political issues are framed by racial divisions, so all the more such racial obsession creates a backlash among the racially diverse American people.

America has largely moved beyond race.

Tragically, our president and a host of his supportive special interests have not."

Welcome to BO's "not post racial" world!

Peace treaty: No more partial videos and no more calling us racist because we disagree with BO!

Yes, Miss Sherrod was treated unfairly by everyone, from the partial video released to the panicky way that the White House fired her.

I feel bad that her words were taken out of context.

At the same, Miss Sherrod is not looking very smart by going around the networks and blaming everything on FOX News.

It was The White House who fired her....not FOX News!

Maureen Dowd, the liberal columnist at the very liberal NY Times, wants the White House to hire Miss Sherrod as Director of Black Outreach!

Miss Dowd does not think that the Obama White House has enough black people in its ranks!

How bad is the liberal "buyer's remorse" getting?

Beyond Miss Sherrod, I also feel bad for the millions of decent Americans who've been branded racist because they disagree with Pres BO.

In many ways, all of this racial war started when irresponsible Dems called the tea parties racist.

Yes, it is true that there were a couple of ugly anti-BO placards.

At the same time, weren't there always anti-Bush placards at the Dem rallies?

Unfortunately, large crowds will always bring out some people who want to make noise, such as the people who were marching with "Che Guevarra" signs at the immigration rallies!

Here is an idea for a truce or a peace treaty:

No more charges of "racism".

Don't call me a "racista" because I believe in LEGAL immigration.

Don't brand me a racist because I think that Pres BO's policies are hurting the country.

Finally, we in the right supported Pres BO when he sent 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.

On the other hand, there are many white Dems who did not vote to fund the Afghanistan war......is anybody calling them racists because they oppose a black president's policy?

Tom Grieve deserves to be in the Rangers' Hall of Fame

The Rangers inducted Tom Grieve into the team's Hall of Fame last night.

It's about time!

Grieve is one of the nice guys in baseball, a good player, team executive and now the TV analyst.

He is also a good man, husband, father and now grandfather.

Congratulations to Tom Grieve!

P.S. The Rangers lost the game but they still LA by 6 games!

"Close to you", a great summer song from many summers ago!

Richard Carpenter was 23, and younger sister Karen was only 20, when they recorded "Close to you" many summers ago.

It was another great song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, who also wrote songs for Dionne Warwick!

"Close to you" was their first # 1 song and became one of the biggest hits of the 1970's.

Have you listened to the radio lately? It is still one of the most requested pop songs on the radio.

According to songfacts, "Close to you" was recorded by a couple of artists before The Carpenters.

It became a hit when the song met Karen's beautiful voice and Richard's awesome arrangement!

Click the video:

"Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be Close to you.

Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be Close to you.

On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue.

That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around.
Just like me, they long to be Close to you...."

I miss Pres Bush....and the women of Iran miss him too!

Where is Pres BO on the tragic case of Mohammadi Ashtiani, the Iranian mother who could be executed at any moment in Iran?

She is accused of adultery but there is no independent way of confirming those charges.

Besides that, this is the 21st century and we don't "stone" women to death for adultery!

Iran's leaders want to live in the 4th century except when it comes to making nuclear weapons!

We call on Pres BO and Speaker Pelosi and Sec Clinton to call for this lady's release.

This is a crime against women and the US should not stand quietly on the sidelines afraid of "intervening" in local matters.

Do you think that Pres Bush, or a Pres McCain, would have stood quietly?

No way.

I miss Pres Bush.

I think that the women of Iran miss him too!

Don't you miss those "Bush deficits"?

We learned that the next budget deficit will be US$ 1.4 trillion:

"New estimates from the White House on Friday predict the budget deficit will reach a record $1.47 trillion this year.

The government is borrowing 41 cents of every dollar it spends." (AP)

Why is this happening?

We are not collecting enough taxes because of unemployment and a sluggish recovery.

We are also spending way too much money and expanding government.

Again, don't you miss Bush deficits?

It's a real problem when the president of the US does not understand capitalism!

It's hard to believe but we have a president who does not understand capitalism.

He does not understand how it works.....the wonder of it....and the fact that capitalism is what has made the US the most prosperous nation in world history.

Steve Forbes has a great post today:

"Almost every action Obama officials take underscores their belief in the stereotype that businesspeople are mostly amoral, corner-cutting, consumer-shafting, pollution-loving menaces.

The economy itself needs to be tightly controlled and rigidly guided by Washington mandarins because free markets are inherently and destructively unstable."

We thought that candidate BO was a man of the left.

We did not think that he was this far to the left or so ignorant of the basic principles of a free market economy.

Jerry Jones & Cowboys' fans have a lot to smile about these days!

The Cowboys start their pre-season camp this weekend and Jerry Jones has lots of good reasons to be very happy:

1) The team is a serious Super Bowl contender.

I guess that we can beat the Vikings and stuff the ball in their face for running up the score the last time we played them;

2) This is the Cowboys' 50th anniversary. They played in the Cotton Bowl back in 1960 and did not win a game in their first season!

Wouldn't it be nice to play in the team's 9th SB in such a special year?

And,

3) The Super Bowl game will be played in Dallas!

Doesn't building that new stadium look good now?

Can you imagine how much money the SB will inject in the local economy?

We have a lot to look forward to, such as the Cowboys beating the Colts or Patriots or Chargers in the Super Bowl!

Click here for my discussion with Barry Bellville about the Super Bowl in Dallas:

"Yes we can" win in November!

This is the latest bit of news about our president and his congressional majority:

"Conceding that they can't find enough votes for the legislation, Senate Democrats on Thursday abandoned efforts to put together a comprehensive energy bill that would seek to curb greenhouse gas emissions, delivering a potentially fatal blow to a proposal the party has long touted and President Obama campaigned on. " (WashPost)

Don't get me wrong.

I am very happy that his misguided climate bill, a job killer, has run into the same trouble as GITMO, terrorist trials in NYCity, and so much of the "yes we can" agenda.

Pres BO is now facing the worst of all possible electoral worlds.

He can't get Dems to follow him and the Republicans have never been more unified in their opposition.

"Hope and change" has turned out to be a disaster for the Dems.

Here is a video for your weekend pleasure:

Rangers up 7 on Angels!

Who wouldn't want to buy the Rangers?

On Thursday night, Cliff Lee went into the ninth and Feliz got the save.

On Friday night, CJ Wilson did a great imitation of Lee and Feliz saved the game again.

Have the Rangers played any better? I don't recall pitching like this when they won those 3 AL West titles in the late 90s.

Back then, the Rangers were a hitting team that outscored the opposition.

Today, this is a team that relies on pitching and defense.

They don't try to win by hitting home runs anymore.

The net result is that they are up 7 in the AL West and looking like a post-season team.

Check out our chat about the Rangers' ownership situation:
