Pres BO and the Dems made a huge mistake by promising an "immigration reform" program in 2009!
They didn't do it!
Frankly, Pres BO never even tried or send a formal proposal to Congress for hearings or a vote.
Why should the GOP do?
First, stand against "illegal immigration" and for secure borders!
Check out what Susana Martinez, Brian Sandoval and Marco Rubio proposed during their very successful campaigns.
Repeat over and over again: The US is a nation of laws! You can not live in a country where laws are respected or enforced selectively.
Enforce immigration laws and remind the world that the US has a "legal" way of coming or visiting this country.
Don't apologize for supporting the rule of law.
Second, stand for "legal immigration"! The Republicans should call for an expanded "work visa" program.
We should legalize "work" temporarily and give employers a legal means to hire and retain foreign workers.
We need these workers!
Can this idea work? It did when we had the "brasero" program, the most successful plan so far in curbing illegal entry and fixing the economic disparities between Mexico and the US.
Under the "brasero" program, millions of Mexicans crossed the border legally and found many opportunities to work, make a living and take dollars back home.
A "work visa" program will also allow us to identify who is here, or take stock of who is living in the US!
How can we tolerate 10-12 million people living in the dark or using illegal documents?
Last, but not least, publicly call on Mexico to reform its economy.
You can't fix our illegal immigration problem unless Mexico becomes more attractive for its people.
The Republicans should pursue practical ideas that help employers hire people legally.
At the same time, they should stay away from anything that sounds or rhymes with amnesty.
We have a successful playbook. Again, look at Rubio, Martinez and Sandoval!
