Finally, a little common sense from Mexico about border security!

Is Mexico "finally getting it" about border security?

Today,
The Dallas Morning News quotes Mexico Amb to the US Arturo Sarukhan saying this:

""Regardless of what happens on this side of the border, Mexico has got to be able to do two things it has either been unable or unwilling to do in the past," he said.

First, it must boost economic growth and job creation "to anchor those women and men with well-paying jobs in Mexico."

Second, it must "ensure that every single Mexican that crosses the border into the United States does so with papers, through a designated port of entry, and legally.""

Thank you Mr. Ambassador!

Why did it take so long for someone south of the border to make sense about border security?

We have posted before that "porous" border are bad for Mexico and the US.

First, they allow people to go north and south without any sensible control.

Second, they expose Mexico to cartels smuggling people, cash and guns.

Third, it will be a lot easier to legislate an immigration reform package once the border is secured.

What's next?

Pres Calderon should call on Pres BO to place US troops on the border and join the Mexican military's efforts.

It will send a chilling message to the cartels and make it easier for the overwhelmed Mexican military to do their job.
