Is this the best time for Pres BO to get into a "human rights" argument with Mexico?

Yes, it did happen!

The AP reports, and others confirm it, that Mexican soldiers killed a couple of civilians up north.

Let me be clear: I am not going to defend shooting innocent people.

It is very regrettable.

However, this is what happens in a war.....and Mexico is in the middle of a war....no matter how many times the Obama administration would rather think about Mexican trucks rather than the threat to our national security on the southern border.

Mexico is under siege.

Mexican soldiers are under a lot of pressure.

They are fighting people who "cut heads off" and "hang bodies from bridges"!

This is brutal and hard work!

Once in a while, we will see something like the story of the soldiers who shot a car carrying innocent people.

Again, I am not defending it......I'm just being realistic....I am also showing a little sympathy and respect for the extremely difficult work that the Mexican military is doing!

The afformentioned AP story also reminds us that the Obama administration is still playing games with the Merida Plan funds:

"The administration of President Barack Obama is withholding $26 million in aid to Mexico, recommending that the government give more power to its human rights commission and crack down on abusive soldiers.

In a report released last week, the State Department said the Mexican government has met human rights requirements to receive $36 million in previously withheld funds that are part of a $1.4 billion Merida Initiative.

But the U.S. said it would withhold 15 percent of newly authorized funds until Mexico meets several requirements: enhancing the authority of the National Human Rights Commission, limiting authority of military courts in cases involving abuse of civilians, and improving communication with human rights organizations."

What exactly are we accomplishing by withholding these funds?

Pres Calderon and the Mexican military need these funds, and the weapons that they buy.

How does it help the US to get into a fight with the Mexican government carrying out this fight against the cartels?

It makes no sense!

Again, we don't defend military abuses or mistakes.

At the same time, the Obama administration seems lost in the small stuff rather than focusing on the national security threat just south of Texas!
