Are we watching the 2010 version of 1994, 1978 and 1966?
Let's take a trip down memory lane.
In 1964, Dem Pres LBJ had a big night and governed with a large Dem majority in Congress.
In 1966, the Republicans had a huge comeback (47 House seats) and Pres LBJ & Dems argued with each other about Vietnam.
In 1976, Jimmy Carter of Georgia, the original "hope and change" candidate, won a close election against Pres Ford.
In 1978, the Republicans made a great comeback and set the table for winning 5 of the next 7 presidential elections. (1980, 1984, 1988, 2000 & 2004)
In 1992, Bill Clinton of Arkansas defeated Pres Bush in a 3 way race.
In 1994, the Republicans had a huge night in the mid-term elections.
Pres Clinton was reelected in 1996, in large measure because he moved to the right and signed just about everything that the conservative Republican Congress sent him.
What will happen in 2010?
We are not "popping champagne" but it looks good in mid-August.
What's the lesson here?
The Dems can not govern.
They are very good at blaming Bush but they are a lot less effective at governing.
History will repeat itself in 2010 and the Republicans will rise again!
