Didn't they tell us during the campaign that BO would charm the allies into working with us?

July was a bad month for US troops in Afghanistan:

"NATO announced yesterday that six more US troops have died in Afghanistan, bringing the death toll for July to at least 66 and surpassing the previous month’s record as the deadliest for American forces in the nearly nine-year-old war." (
Boston.com)

We also learned this:

"The Netherlands became the first NATO country to end its combat mission in Afghanistan.......

Canada has announced it will withdraw its 2,700 troops in 2011 and Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has promised to pull out his country's 2,600 soldiers the year after.

That is likely to put pressure on other European governments such as Germany and Britain to scale back their forces, adding to the burden shouldered by the United States, which expects to have 100,000 troops here by the end of next month." (AP)

What's going on? Why aren't other NATO countries living up to their responsibilities?

First, this is another example of how "wimpy" the Europeans are. They have no spine and will "cut and run" as soon as the going gets rough.

Second, it puts to rest the campaign garbage that the Europeans did not work with Pres Bush because he was abrasive or not a good listener.

They are not working with or listening to Pres BO either!

Pres BO needs to go to a European capital and call on the Europeans to assume their NATO responsibilities.

Pres BO needs to talk to them as a president not a celebrity looking for adoring crowds.

He needs to remind them that we live in a very dangerous world and the US can not fight these battles by itself. (We have 100,000 troops in Afghanistan and we can use some help in fighting a common enemy!)

What's the point of NATO if countries do not want to fight on NATO missions?

What's the point of US troops protecting Europe if they won't fight in Afghanistan?
