Nelson and his band were on their way to Dallas for a concert. (I was planning to attend one of Nelson's performances)
Nelson would have been 70 this year.
After his parents' show faded, Nelson moved on and recorded some great folk/country songs.
He sang many Bob Dylan tunes and wrote "Garden party", a really nice song about an unpleasant personal experience at Madison Square Garden.
It's hard to pick a Nelson favorite, specially since he recorded so many nice tunes. I will select "Fools rush in" and Bob Dylan's "Love minus zero/No limit":
"Fools rush in where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you my love
my heart above my head
Though I see the danger there
if there's a chance for me then I don't care
Fools rush in where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love
so how are they to know
When we met I felt my life begin
so open up your heart and let this fool rush in
Fools rush in where wise men never go...
Just open up your heart and let this fool rush in
Well open up your heart and let this fool rush in...."
"My love she speaks like silence
without ideals or violence
she doesn't have to say she's faithful
yet she's true, like ice, like fire
people carry roses - make promises by the hours
my love she laughs like the flowers -
Valentines can't buy her
In the dime stores and bus stations
people talk of situations
read books, repeat quotations
draw conclusions on the wall
some speak of the future
my love, she speaks softly
she knows there's no success like failure
and the failure's no success at all
The bridge at midnight trembles
the country doctor rambles
bankers, nieces, seek perfection
expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
the wind blows like a hammer
the night blows cold and rainy
my love, she's like some raven,
at my window with a broken wing."
