We are very happy that Pres & Sra. Calderon will be in Washington this week. As we've posted before, we think that Pres Calderon is a responsible guy dealing with some rather awful problems in Mexico.
Unfortunately, Pres Calderon is flying into a very poisonous political climate. Washington DC is the political version of those clouds shutting down air travel in Europe.
First, Pres BO has a majority but he can't get anything done.
Forget immigration reform! Pres BO can not get the Dem majority in the House or Senate to take it up.
Forget everything specially after Dems digest Tuesday's elections: It was not a good night for BO's candidates!
Second, there are too many of us who are sick and tired of getting lectured by Mexico about immigration laws.
How can a country like Mexico lecture anybody about illegal immigration?
We understand that there are big issues on the table. However, we don't expect anything tangible to get done.
It's bad chemistry!
On one hand, Obama is in a serious political situation. We may be looking at another Carter, the last Dem who had big majorities and got nothing done!
On the other hand, Calderon and Mexico have spent too much time criticizing our immigration laws rather than reforming their economy so that people can stay home.
There will be kisses, hugs and the First Ladies will talk a lot about "child obesity".
However, don't expect a lot more than that!
