It seems like only yesterday that I bought these 45s, played them on my turntable and made an 8-track tape for my car radio.
1975 was the first year of the disco era. And it was a great summer for music too!
It was the year that Glen Campbell made a huge comeback with "Rhinestone Cowboy".
It was the year that we were introduced to ABBA and the Average White Band.
And it was the year that Judy Collins recorded one of her most beautiful songs, 'Send in the clowns".
Close your eyes and join me in the Time Tunnel!
This is AWB's "Pick up the pieces", one of the greatest instrumentals ever:
This Judy Collins' "Send in the clowns":
And ABBA's "I do I do..". This song always reminded me of Pat Boone's "Love letters in the sand". Nevertheless, I thought that Agnetha & Frida were very good looking:
"Love me or leave me, make your choice but believe me
I love you I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
I can't conceal it, don't you see, can't you feel it?
Don't you too? I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
Oh, I've been dreaming through my lonely past
Now I just made it, I found you at last
So come on, now let's try it, I love you, can't deny it
'Cos it's true I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
Oh, no hard feelings between you and me
If we can't make it, but just wait and see
So come on, now let's try it,
I love you, can't deny it
'Cos it's true I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
So love me or leave me, make your choice
but believe me I love you
I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
I can't conceal it, don't you see,
can't you feel it? Don't you too?
I do, I do, I do, I do, I do...."
Here is Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy":
"I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone
Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train that's takin' the long way
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
There'll be a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me..."
