On Tuesday, we took issue with First Lady MO's "obesity tour" to Mexico City.
Don't get me wrong. We're OK with parents in Mexico getting serious about "child obesity".
At the same time, this is a family matter and not another concern of Obama's "nanny state"!
Do the Obamas believe that every problem in the world has a "nanny state" solution?
After all, what business is it of government to tell you what to eat? Isn't this supposed to be an issue for parents and their children?
Beyond all of that, we got bigger problems here in this country, such as a massive federal budget deficit which is 10% of GDP!
Today, we learned that First Lady MO is planning an ambitious international agenda:
"On Tuesday, first lady Michelle Obama will travel abroad.
She has already visited nine countries since moving into the White House.
But this time, when she arrives in Mexico, she will be a solo star on the world stage.
Her three-day journey to Mexico City will be her first official foreign trip alone -- without the president and without her children." (WashPost)
What's wrong with that?
First, we can't afford these millions of dollars today.
Who is going to explain to the US public that our First Lady is off on international missions designed to promote her own causes?
Who is giving this administration political advice? Don't they read this kind of polling data over at The White House:
"For the second straight week, 35% of U.S. voters say the country is heading in the right direction...
Sixty-one percent (61%) of all voters now say the nation is heading down the wrong track...." (RR)
Second, there is a time to travel and there is a time to show some respect for a nation's budgetary situation.
First Lady BO needs to rethink her expensive missions abroad. She needs to set the example by conserving our dollars at a time like this.
Check out Wednesday's thoughts:
