Mahmoud wins: When will Pres BO recognize him?


Just in case you didn't know: Mahmoud won!

The Iranian "whatever they call their electoral commission" has declared that Mahmoud won and it's time to move on!

Now for the fun part: Will Pres BO recognize Mahmoud or will he declare that he is illegitimate? Will he crack again?

BRET STEPHENS has a good post entitled Obama's Obsolete Iran Policy:

"What they need is Mr. Obama's spine.

If that means "democracy promotion" and tough talk about "regime change," well, it wouldn't be the first time this president has made his predecessor's policy his own."

That's right.

We need another BO reversal. We need for BO to adopt Bush's commitment to regime change.

Why regime change? Because it's the best solution for everyone, and specially the women of Iran forced to live under 12th century rule?

Wonder what Calderon & Uribe think of BO singing along with Chavez, Ortega and the Castro brothers?


Once again, we see Pres BO lining up with our enemies rather than our allies.

In Honduras, a Chavez-like president attempted to change the constitution and extend his rule.

Chavez did it in Venezuela. Why not Zelaya in Honduras?


"There was a coup all right, but it wasn't committed by the U.S. or the Honduran court.

It was committed by Zelaya himself.

He brazenly defied the law, and Hondurans overwhelmingly supported his removal (a pro-Zelaya rally Monday drew a mere 200 acolytes)."

Chavez has threatened to invade Honduras and restore Zelaya.

Of course, Chavez doesn't have the military resources to send a naval force across the Caribbean Sea and into The Gulf of Mexico.

However, he can destabilize Honduras, a small Central American nation.

Wonder what Pres Calderon of Mexico and Pres Uribe of Colombia think about Pres BO lining up with the region's # 1 thug?

Mexico and Colombia were recent targets of Chavez' meddling! Again, wonder what they think of "hope and change" down in Mexico City and Bogota these days?

As the world turns, BO seems awfully comfortable promoting a pro-Chavez agenda in Central America.

Wouldn't we better off if Pres BO and the US were promoting a "rule of law" agenda?

On the one hand, Obama insisted that he could not interfere with the internal politics of the “sovereign government of Iran,” refusing for days to even condemn Iran for its flagrantly violent repression of dissent.

It's a sad day when Pres BO is lining up with Chavez and Castro.

Has Pres BO read the Honduras constitution?

So let's hope that someone at The White House reads Honduras Defends Its Democracy by Mary A. O'Grady:

"Hugo Chávez's coalition-building efforts suffered a setback yesterday when the Honduran military sent its president packing for abusing the nation's constitution."

No Chavez in Honduras.

This is not your old fashioned military coup. Instead, this is actually a nation defending the "rule and law".

Why do you think that Chavez, Castro & Ortega are rooting for former Pres Zelaya?

Let's hope that Pres BO catches up with reality down in Honduras.

Is Pres BO the first "labor union" president in US history?



Sen McCain got this one right in: 'Unions are running a lot of this administration'

"McCain referenced the auto bailouts as well as President Obama's push for a healthcare reform package that includes a public (or "government-run") option for consumers as examples of union influence on the administration.

Unions have worked to organize support for the healthcare reform bill, and have also pushed for the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), a labor reform bill which the administration has said it supports.

McCain, who faced off against Obama in the 2008 presidential election, accused his onetime electoral nemesis of conducting "far-left" policies in a "a right-of-center nation."

We can add "protectionism" to Sen McCain's comments.

Pres BO is pursuing a union agenda! The country needs a "jobs" agenda!

Let's get tough serious about consequences in Iran!


Should we expect Pres BO to do more than just talk about the situation in Iran?

Yes we can.

Did you know that Iran imports most of its gasoline?


"Despite having the world’s second largest reserves of oil, Iran must import 40% of its gasoline because of a lack of refining capacity.

Most of its refined gasoline comes from the Jamnagar Refinery, operated and owned by Reliance Industries, an Indian company.

And guess who has guaranteed a $500 million loan to expand this refinery?

You did.

The American taxpayer, through the Export-Import Bank provided the loan guarantees as part of a $900 million package to Reliance."

Let's support the Sherman-Kirk Amendment in Congress.

This is an amendment that cuts off Export-Import bank financing for any firm that exports gasoline to Iran.

It sounds good to me!

It will have a devastating impact on the rulers' ability to stay in power.

Yes, I understand that it will hurt people. However, it will destabilize the economy even more and push the regime over the cliff.

Remembering Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and a few other thoughts!


Jody Rosen has a good post on Michael Jackson's best album:

"Thriller (1982) was Jackson's masterpiece; it was also his curse.

It won him unprecedented adoration:

No one—not Frank Sinatra, not Elvis Presley, not the Beatles—commanded as large a global audience.

But it was also a commercial and artistic milestone that Jackson spent the rest of his life trying in vain to repeat."

I understand Rosen's point.

"Thriller" spoiled us.

Michael Jackson was 25 years old and he had the best selling album in pop history.

The songs were great. The dancing videos were spectacular.

"Thriller" was like a hitter winning the triple crown! How do you ever have a better season than that?

How do you top "Thriller"? You can't!

P.S. My friend Jerome and I had a chat about Michael Jackson on the air yesterday. We remembered Jackson's music and contributions!

Dear Pres BO: Check out how Pres Reagan responded to Poland 1981!


In 1981, Poland erupted and Pres Reagan responded:

"All the information that we have confirms that the imposition of martial law in Poland has led to the arrest and confinement, in prisons and detention camps, of thousands of Polish trade union leaders and intellectuals.

Factories are being seized by security forces and workers beaten.

Remembering a great song from the late Marvin Gaye!


Marvin Gaye recorded so many great songs!

A few days ago, I was driving around and heard "Too busy thinking about my baby".

It reminded me of high school days!

He recorded some great songs with Tammi Terrell, such as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Your Precious Love", "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" and "You're All I Need to Get By."

In the 1970's, Gaye recorded one of the decade's best albums: What's Going! ("In 2003, the album was ranked number 6 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.")

Why is North Korea playing with Pres BO?


Wonder what North Korea thinks of this: US will not use force to inspect NKorean ship!

We went to the UN....got a very tough resolution.....but we can't inspect a ship.

Wonder who is laughing tonight?


"Instead of Obama looking tough, Kim has shown the world that he can bully the US into retreat at any time.

He exposed Obama as a paper tiger."

Pres Bush was right about North Korea.

I like what Ashok Malik wrote about this: Bush was right after all

5 months of BO: lots of missiles and more coming!

Coincidence?

Not at all.

The North Koreans don't fear BO!

Be careful about voting for the anti-Bush: He may hold detainees indefinitely just like Bush!

"Hope and change" continues its reversals.

Wonder what the "yes we can" screamers would have said about any of this during the campaign?


We are happy that "hope and change" has come to its senses.

Let Mr. Malcolm explain it further:

"According to the Post report, the 44th president is now starting to think that closure of the internationally-reviled Guantanamo Bay detention facility, which Obama announced with so much fanfare on his first day in office last winter, may be impossible to actually accomplish before the one-year deadline he set for himself before actually planning where else to put these prisoners.

In other words, fanfare aside, status quo ante.

Democrat or Republican, same deal.

Ex-Vice President Dick Cheney will be so pleased that the Obama-Biden folks finally accepted his advice to protect national security.

Another sign, finally, of real change after eight long years of the very same thing."

Again, we are happy that Pres BO is putting national security ahead of keeping silly campaign promises to "yes we can" screamers.

My question is this: Who is going to apologize to Pres Bush and VP Cheney?

Who is going to apologize after spending two years claiming that the Bush-Cheney administration was breaking the law?

P.S. We refer you once again to The adolescent angst of Barack Obama By Michael Barone! It's amazing how different the world looks when you are actually responsible for our national security!

Gov Palin has a message for the people of Iran!


It was great to see Gov Palin stand with the people of Iran!

Iran is shooting its people.

I'm glad to see that Gov Palin understands freedom!

BO has been tougher on Mexico, Canada & Colombia than Iran, N-Korea, Chavez or Syria!


Here is my advice to Pres Calderon of Mexico, PM Harper of Canada or Pres Uribe of Colombia:

Become an enemy of the US, support terrorism, kill US soldiers in Iraq, threaten Israel and develop a nuclear program.

Perhaps, Canada should say that they are withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan! Or say that they will sell their oil to China!

Kidding?

This is how you get on Pres BO's "talk show" or get attention from this White House.

Just see what BO is doing for Hugo Chavez and Bashar al-Assad: Hot dogs for Syria and Venezuela!

As Pres BO continues down the path of assuming that he can change bad guys with his personality, he is failing one huge presidential test:

We don't elect presidents to do talk shows. That's what Oprah and Cristina do!

We don't elect presidents to be popular for the sake of being popular. That's what entertainers do!

We elect our presidents to promote US interests and support our allies, such as Mexico, Canada and Colombia.

Bill Katz has noticed that even the liberal Washington Post has picked up on BO's anti-ally style:

"Message to Mr. Chávez and the Castro brothers: We can work with you.

Message to Cuba's democratic opposition: We don't have time for you."

Look around the world and you will see that BO's foreign policy puts our enemies first!

Wonder who put all of that in his head?

Didn't BO sit in Rev Wright's church for 20 years? (Jeremiah Wright Foreign Policy By Mark Hyman)

Down in Mexico, Pres Calderon, perhaps one of the most serious leaders in that country's history, has just seen our Pres BO violate NAFTA.

Over in Congress, the Dems are lining up one excuse after another to delay funding The Merida Plan.

Apparently, some Dems are concerned about "human rights" violations in Mexico! Are the same Black Congressional Caucus Dems who went down to Cuba to hold talks with Raul Castro?

We are not going to defend everything that happens in Mexico. However, I don't think that Mexico should be very high on our list of countries with human rights violations!

It's hard to think of Mexican human rights violations in the context of Iran killing its people and throwing out foreign reporters!

Down in Colombia, Pres Uribe is being told that "they are" killing labor leaders.

In other words, Nancy Pelosi has directed Pres BO to discontinue any discussions about the Colombia Free Trade Agreement until "they" stop killing labor leaders!

Of course, Mexican trucks are safe and Colombia is not intentionally killing labor leaders.

Nevertheless, facts don't matter because BO and Pelosi have to pay back the unions that spent millions to get them elected!

US labor unions do not like free trade agreements. Nancy Pelosi has ordered BO to follow whatever the unions are saying.

As the WSJ wrote today:

"Democrats nonetheless continue to prevent a vote on the FTA.

Big Labor has simply drawn a line in the sand against any new trade agreements, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is complying.

Colombia gets whacked." (WSJ)

Nancy is the conductor and she has ordered BO to whack Mexico and Colombia!

She forced him to sing the "stimulus" that has not stimulated the US economy one bit!

It did add US$ 800 billion to our current federal budget deficit.

We have gone from a deficit relative to GDP of 4% under Bush to 10% under BO!

Are these the same people who used to talk about Bush's deficits?

We are yearning for the day when BO takes as much interest in working with Mexico and Colombia as he does in writing pre-election letters to to the Iranian thugs shooting their citizens.

Wonder what all of those marchers in Iran think about Pres BO sending a pre-election letter to the people shooting them?

Hope and change?

Maybe Pres BO should fly to Mexico and apologize for violating NAFTA? That's one apology that makes sense!

Resign Gov Sanford....your behavior was very irrational!



Here we go again.

Gov Sanford was one of the promising stars in the party.

As we posted before, our comeback will be fueled by governors, such as Romney, Huckabee, Palin and our own Perry of Texas.

Republicans are "a state driven" party. Our future presidents are usually successful governors, such as Reagan and GW Bush.

I like our current roster of governors! (Again, keep an eye on Rick Perry of Texas. He is slowly but surely turning into "the anti-federal government candidate" of 2012)

Gov Sanford was one of those guys on the roster. He was a good governor and represented the "growth" part of the country, i.e. the Republican South!

So it was very sad to see Sanford go down the drain!

Over the next few days, we will hear the left wingers say that Republicans are hypocrites and so on.

Are we hypocritical because we preach morality, family values and respect for the unborn?

Not at all.

Do some of our guys make mistakes and destroy themselves, as well as their families?

Unfortunately, yes.

Gov Sanford needs to resign and concentrate on putting his marriage back together. Let's remember that there are four boys in this equation!

Beyond that, Gov Sanford needs to come clean about any use of public funds to support his relationship with the Argentine lady.

We always forgive people who make mistakes.

We are not so kind to to politicians who misuse public funds, betray the public trust and engage in very irrational behavior!

P.S. The media should not publish Gov Sanford's private e-mails! It does not add to the story and embarasses his wife even more! Also, I understand that he was using a private e-mail address and not his official one.

A quick word about Michael Jackson



Like so many others, I loved The Jackson 5.

They were great.

In recent years, Michael Jackson really turned me off. I did not enjoy his image, music or anything about him. Frankly, I thought that he was repulsive.

Nevertheless, we do recognize his contributions to pop music.

He had some great solo songs in the 1970s, such as the "Off the Wall" album.

His best solo work was probably the "Thriller" album from the early 1980s. It sold lots of copies!

Mahmoud to BO: We'll reply to your letter after we do some "housecleaning"!


We know now that Pres BO wrote a letter to the Iranian leaders prior to the election.

What was that all about?

We don't know for sure.

However, it appears that Pres BO was setting up a meeting with the Iranian leadership.

How is that going to play with the people in the streets?

Not well.

Incredibly, Pres BO has now aligned the US government with the corrupt regime running Iran.

Bill Katz has a post about it:

"You'd think the president of the United States could have at least waited until after the "election," so he'd know who he was dealing with. And you'll notice that the Supreme Leader hasn't even responded yet, even though the letter was sent weeks ago." (THE OBAMA IRAN LETTER)


What's one more apology from Pres BO?


A president projecting lots of weakness at a time when we should be standing strong!

Today, she posted A Weak American President:

"President Obama has staked his reputation on being a human rights guru to people around the world.

But his remarks at Tuesday's news conference and behavior since taking office have instead exposed a different persona--that of human rights charlatan."

She is right.

We have a great opportunity for regime change in Iran. We have a chance to be with those who want change in Iran.

Where are we?

Pres BO is still interested in talking to the thugs killing innocent people.

The world is watching Iran. The bad buys are indeed watching Pres BO!

The women of Iran are marching for something much bigger than "a stolen election"!

Barone and "The adolescent angst of Barack Obama"


Michael Barone is one of the nation's best political analysts.


This is one my favorite paragraphs:

"Back in July 2007, Obama said that he would meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad and other tyrants without preconditions.

Grown-up squares like George W. Bush wouldn’t talk to these guys, so as the avatar of the generation of hope and change, Obama would.

Obama figured he was cool enough to get the mullahs to agree to renounce nuclear weapons and all that hate stuff."

Here is my second favorite paragraph:

"As parents know, it takes time for an adolescent to grow up."

Yes, it does!

Read it because it is great!

"Reality is catching up to the president. He has lived in a world of media adulation and campaign spin ever since he announced his run for the White House.

I really like this:

Hope and change is running out of gas and in need of a tune up less than six months into a presidency!

Dear BO: You need a change of plans about a regime shooting its people!


Back during the campaign, I mentioned that a young "yes we can" screamer was convinced that BO's personality would change the world.

I have not seen him recently. It'd be interesting to get an update following the brutal crackdown in Iran.

Pres BO committed himself to a different foreign policy. Unfortunately, nobody asked him to explain it, i.e. no one in the media challenged him.

Today, Pres BO is dealing with the harsh reality that Iran is a terrorist state that kills its people.


"Before June 12, Obama's eagerness to negotiate with Ahmadinejad -- ridiculed by his conservative critics -- was hailed by the establishment and the left as proof of his high-minded faith in diplomacy, a healthy antidote to George W. Bush's allegedly close-minded approach.

But now, if the clerical junta prevails, anyone who shakes hands with Ahmadinejad will have a hard time washing the blood off his own hands."

Does anyone at this White House understand the backlash if he now meets with Iranian leaders?

It's time for BO to make some "in flight corrections".

It's time for the naive candidate to come to grip to some reality.

There won't be a face to face meeting with Iran's leaders.

BO isn't going to get a chance to change the world with his personality.

Wonder what Thomas Jefferson would think of inviting Iranian diplomats to our birthday party?


We really love Thomas Jefferson in this blog.

Thomas Jefferson was 32 years old when he wrote The Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Jefferson went on to be our 3rd president.

Jefferson coincidentally died on July 4, 1826, or the 50th anniversary of the document that made him famous. (John Adams, the other big player in the signing of the declaration died on that day too!


"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government"

What side do you think that Thomas Jefferson would take in Iran?

A corrupt repressive regime?

Or people demanding their freedom?

Pres BO got a question at today's press conference.

It was a simple question: Are we still inviting Iranian diplomats to our July 4th party?


"State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said on Monday that Iranian diplomats are still welcome to attend Fourth of July parties at U.S. embassies around the world:

"There's no thought to rescinding the invitations to Iranian diplomats," Kelly said.

"We have made a strategic decision to engage on a number of fronts with Iran.

And -- and we tried many years of isolation, and we're pursuing a different path now.""

So the Iranians are coming!

Has anybody in this White House thought about the potential PR blunder of this invitation?

It was a stupid idea before the Iranian election.

It is a dumber idea now!

We get the impression that Iran's demonstrations have spoiled Pres BO's obsession with "talking" to the country's leadership.


According to media reports, Pres BO sent a message calling for better US-Iran relations.

Again, doesn't the Obama White House understand the PR blunder of sitting down with people who have brutally cracked down on their population.

I agree with Mark Davis: Why Iranian protests paralyze Obama!

Mark is right. The demonstrators spoiled BO's chance to "charm" Iran into cancelling their nuclear program.

Ed McMahon was a very funny man!


We heard that Ed McMahon died today.

My generation grew up watching The Tonight Show. It was Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon, a great team!

Dear Iran demonstrators: We love what Sen McCain is saying, too!


Check out Sen McCain's statement about the demonstrations and Neda's murder.

Sen McCain has been upfront on Iran, as he was last summer when the Russians moved into Georgia.

Today, I am very proud that I voted for McCain. Again, we are not talking about "choosing sides". We are simply talking about standing up for some basic values, such as not getting killed for expression your opinion.

My guess is that a lot of Iranians are very happy with McCain, too!

It was so easy for Pres BO and the Dems to blast Pres Bush and the Republicans about health care.

It was so easy to talk about health care in the abstract. (Yes we can!)

It's a lot more complicated to get something done, specially with Dems freaking out at adding US$ 1 trillion! As we posted, the Dems are starting to worry about carrying BO's deficits and unemployment in 2010!

Today, we saw this story from Bloomberg:

" President Barack Obama may not have enough votes in the U.S. Senate to pass his effort to overhaul the nation’s health-care system, California Democrat Dianne Feinstein said.

“I don’t know that he has the votes right now,” Feinstein said today on CNN’s “State of the Union” program.

“I think there’s a lot of concern in the Democratic caucus.”

Controlling costs of the new system is a “difficult subject.” Republican Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana said on the same program that the overhaul should be done slowly, and not this year, to ensure it doesn’t “threaten the basic structure of the economy.”"

Out of control costs? Where I did hear that before?

It gets better.

James Pethokoukis tears up "BO-Care" in Why Obamacare may be flatlining:

"And then last week, the Congressional Budget Office, the respected arbiter of what new government programs might cost, calculated that the Senate Finance Committee’s health reform bill would cost more than $1.6 trillion over 10 years.

That was determined to be a political no-go by Senate Democrats– a smart conclusion given the recent polling — and the committee moved on to a still evolving plan B."

This is 1993 all over again. All we need is for the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl and the Blue Jays win The World Series!

Back in '93, another Dem president with a Dem majority decided to push health care reform.

What happened?

The public read the bill.

They put substance over style.

In the end, the voters did not want Euro-type taxes in exchange for a public health care program.

By the way, what happened to the new Dem president and his big majority in 1993?

The Republicans took over the House and Senate.

What happened to Pres Clinton? He said that "the era of big government was over" in first State of the Union after losing Congress!

We agree that something must be done. What should we do?

First, let's check out some facts before making wholesale changes.

We remind you that the public is divided on the government to take over health care: 41% Favor Public Sector Health Care Option, 41% Disagree!

George Will blasts BO-Care and its assumptions:

"Almost 39 percent of the uninsured are in five states -- Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, all of which are entry points for immigrants.

About 21 percent -- 9.7 million -- of the uninsured are not citizens.

Up to 14 million are eligible for existing government programs -- Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, veterans' benefits, etc. -- but have not enrolled.

And 9.1 million have household incomes of at least $75,000 and could purchase insurance.

Those last two cohorts are more than half of the 45.7 million.

Insuring the perhaps 20 million persons who are protractedly uninsured because they cannot afford insurance is conceptually simple:

Give them money -- (refundable) tax credits or debit cards (which have replaced food stamps) loaded with a particular value.

Larry Elder goes after the myth of 45 million uninsured people:

He smokes cigarettes, dates, eats out, goes to movies and, like all young people, lives through his cell phone.

With a slight change in priorities, he could afford health insurance, the cost of which at his age and health starts at about $100 a month.

We do not have a health care crisis.

We have a health care problem that could be addressed with minor reforms and the promotion of personal responsibility, i.e. buy your own policy!

What kind of reforms?

How about tort reform, a major part of health care costs.

What should we do about people who lose their employer based insurance or hit some hard times?

Give these people an insurance card and cover them.

As soon as they find a job, let them pay for their own private sector insurance.

Another reform?

We should move away from the employer based program and encourage people to buy their own plans.

Why? Because individual health insurance policies won't be impacted if you lose or change your job.

Yes, the system needs a few reforms.

Is BO-Care the answer? No. The answer is for every family to prioritize their budget and get an insurance policy!

How many unsustainable entitlements can we afford? We have Social Security and Medicare about to go broke! Where are we going to find trillions of dollars to pay for a fantasy called universal health care?

Let me keep my private health insurance! Let's encourage others to be responsible and buy their own private policies! Again, we should encourage personal responsibility rather than dependency on Democrats!

Events don't go as planned.

In the real world, "stuff happens".

During the campaign, candidate BO, and the band of enthusiastic "yes we can" screamers committed to change the world, projected a post-Bush world.

Here was the plan:

We will talk. We will sit down and listen to our enemies' grievances. We will let BO's personality turn the world around.

Last, but not least, we won't have Bush & Cheney around to blow up things anymore.

Strike one: They foolishly tried to close GITMO.

Strike two: Iran turned brutal on its own people.

Strike three: North Korea got crazy with missiles.

All of sudden talking to Iran is out of the question. In fact, Pres BO's anticipated "face to face" encounter with Iran is highly unlikely.

Pres BO won't get to do an "Oprah" and sit down with our enemies on live world TV.

You can throw that ticket away. And don't expect a rain check either!

Dear BO: You can't vote present on Neda's murder!




Neda is the young woman killed a few days ago. Her video has become the evil regime's worst nightmare!

When will Pres BO cut the crap and denounced Neda's death?

What does calling this "murder" have to do with meddling in Iran's elections?

Iran is a terrorist state. I agree with Power Line:

It supports terrorists and terrorism.

The United States has a debt of honor to settle with it for the kidnapping and mistreatment of American hostages thirty years ago.

Every Dem running in 2010 is completely aware of the "falling public support"!

Michael Barone, one of the nation's premier political pundits and a straight arrow as well, sees a lot of trouble for Pres BO:

"For all the favorable coverage he’s gotten on mainstream media, Barack Obama seems to be having a hard time selling the American public on his policies."

That's right!

Despite a media in the tank, the country is not buying what BO is selling:

"● 69% say they have a great deal or quite a bit of concern about government ownership of General Motors and a 56%-35% majority opposes government aid to General Motors in return for a share of its stock

● 58% say the president and Congress should concentrate on keeping the budget deficit down, even if it takes longer for the economy to recover

● when presented with arguments for and against a government health insurance plan, it was favored by only a 47%-42% margin

● when asked the most important economic issue facing the country, 24% chose the budget deficit and only 11% chose health care

● a 52%-39% majority opposes closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay

Or consider these findings from the CBS/New York Times poll:

● when asked to volunteer the most important problem facing the country, 38% said the economy, 19% said jobs and 7% said health care

● only 44% approve Obama’s handling of health care, while 34% disapprove

● only 41% approve his handling of the problems facing the auto industry, while 46% disapprove

● by a 52%-41% margin they prefer reducing the budget deficit to stimulating the economy

● only 30% think Obama has developed a clear plan for dealing with the budget deficit, while 60% believe he hasn’t."

BO is headed for some harsh reality.

Dear BO: How are you going to talk to a regime that shot a young woman?



This is the Iran that Pres Bush once referred to as an evil country.

This is a nation that kills people and threatens to wipe out Israel.

This is also the same nation that Pres BO promised to talk and engage with.

Reality is once again stepping on BO's presidency. It was a lot easier to be a community organizer, wasn't it?

What in the world are we going to talk about with Iran? What's on the agenda? What do you talk about with a nation that kills its people, such as the young woman named Neda.

Some Democrats are getting nervous about meetings with Iran, specially those with ties to Israel. As Ben Smith reports:

"But even analysts sympathetic with Obama’s careful approach to Iran have begun to doubt whether any engagement with Ayatollah Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad can be sustained, regardless of what the White House says now."

Pres BO's massive ego is headed for an attitude adjustment. I agree with Jenniffer Rubin:

"Until now his foreign policy was premised on the mistaken notion that fundamental differences with despotic regimes were going to melt once he arrived on the scene and engaged in “smart” diplomacy — which consisted primarily of trying not to antagonize them."

Our president, a first term senator from Illinois without any executive or diplomatic experience, has a lot to learn about the real world. I agree with FOUAD AJAMI: Obama's Persian Tutorial

Pres BO is going to learn a lot about the Middle East over the next few days. Let's hope that he understands just how misguided his view of Iran really is!


Can Pres BO govern now that "blame Bush" has run its course?


Be careful about running for president. Sooner or later, you may be expected to govern and act like a president.

David Broder has a great column today. It won't be pleasant reading for those invested in "hope and change". We are finally seeing the early signs that the public expects BO to perform rather than just give speeches about healing the planet:

"Five months into his tenure, Obama has become the only president the American people think about.

And a series of polls last week showed that when Americans think about Obama, they are becoming increasingly critical."

Can we officially declare that the honeymoon is over?

Beyond blaming Pres Bush for everything, including the Cubs not winning a World Series in a 100 years, Pres BO is finding out just how complicated the world looks when you are sitting in The Oval Office.

Pres BO is also turning off many of his supporters:

On Iraq, he disappointed the base by implementing the Bush-McCain plan.

Seriously, what is the difference between BO's Iraq policy and what Bush was doing?

The answer is none.

Back here, Pres BO is angering the homosexuals: Pres BO breaks another promise and throws the homosexuals under the bus!

He is not making our neighbors very happy with arbitrary violations of NAFTA: More on BO's trade war against Mexico and Canada!

Over in Europe, everybody loves him but no one is sending troops to Afghanistan or showing much interest in BO's economics: BO and Europe: Lots of love on the surface and confusion underneath!

Bush is gone and Obama is now in charge.

Wonder when will BO run for "the time tunnel" and demand to spend the rest of his life living in 2007-08!

It was a lot more fun being the candidate who told everyone what they wanted to hear!

Fathers' Day is a little tough because my uncle Jose died last December. I'm sure that my aunt and cousins have some strong feelings today.

Women in Iran following the example of their sisters in Iraq!



The first picture is from Iran today.

The second picture is women voting in Iraq's elections in January. We remind you that 4,000 women ran for provincial positions in Iraq!

What was amazing about all of those pictures from Iraq? What is remarkable about today's scenes from Iran?

The first answer is women. The second answer is women!

Have you seen the TV scenes of women marching and standing up to an inhumane regime? They call them: THE HEROINES OF IRAN!


For years, many liberals mocked Pres Bush's argument that freedom was contagious. They said that these countries were not ready for democracy or elections! Nevertheless, Pres Bush insisted and demanded for recognition of women's rights in the region.

I agree with KIRK PETERSEN:

"If the Bush Administration had not planted democracies (albeit still troubled democracies) in Iraq and Afghanistan, it’s inconceivable to me that so many Iranians would risk their lives and their freedom for an idealistic vision that did not yet exist in their neighborhood.

Just as it was inconceivable that Libya would renounce its nuclear ambitions in the absence of a credible threat."

Freedom, and women voting, is indeed very contagious.

Just ask the women of Iran!

It's hard to believe that Pres BO is dead silent today. Why did he issue a written statement around 1:30 pm today?

Let's say it again.

Pres BO has never had an executive job.

He was never a mayor, governor or an agency department head.

He never ran anything!

The presidency is BO's first managerial position!

In other words, BO is not used to criticism.

As an Illinois state senator, BO avoided controversy and voted present over a hundred times.

As a US Senator, he spent most of his time promoting a book or running for president.

BO has never been in a position where he had to make decisions.

As a candidate, he was never challenged on promises like getting out of Iraq or closing GITMO or giving 95% of us a tax cut.

His slogans went unchallenged.

Today, BO faces the reality of the presidency.

Presidents make decisions not give speeches!

Presidents have to say "yes or no"! They can't vote "present"!

Now comes FOX News.

As O'Reilly demonstrates in the video, the Pew Research Group gave FOX good marks for covering the McCain-Obama election.

Did FOX help McCain? The answer is no. The numbers don't support that!

At the same time, how do you explain the pro-Obama tilt at CNN and MSNBC?

I watch FOX News.

I see a steady stream of "Rep vs Dems" debates!

What do we call Susan Estrich? Juan Williams? Allan Colmes? Dr Mark Hill?

Aren't these well known liberals?

Why is FOX News killing the others in ratings?

Could it be that viewers like what they see? the debates? the actual debates over Pres BO's ideas?

It's true that Sean Hannity is anti-Obama. However, he has an opinion show, just like Keith Obermann has a liberal show at MSNBC.

You can't call Greta's "On the record" liberal or conservative.

She always has a mix of guests and discussion.

O'Reilly is the toughest interview on TV. This is why he kills everybody else in the ratings.

You can not go on O'Reilly and avoid questions or engage in spin!

Again, the public loves it and the ratings are all going on FOX's direction!

Frankly, I see a lot of journalism at FOX News.

The public agrees and the audience proves it!

Beyond numbers, what does Pres BO expect?

Shouldn't we have a network that actually challenges the governing class?

David Zurawik, a TV critic for The Baltimore Sun, has a word for the media in the tank for BO:

"“I hesitate to write these words, but good for Fox.

It must be doing something right, if it has the President complaining about the tiny bit of scrutiny he gets on TV.” (Baltimore Sun Critic Praises Fox News For Giving Obama the 'Tiny Bit of Scrutiny' He Faces On TV )

"The Obama infatuation is a great unreported story of our time.

On the whole, this is not healthy for America."

It's not healthy at all!

By the way, ask candidate Hillary Clinton about the media being in the tank for BO?

Hillary Clinton's campaign was the biggest victim of a media determined to carry the water for candidate BO!

Back to the present.

Pres BO is proposing massive and radical changes across the board.

Can't we count to 10 and have a debate?

Do we have to rush everything?

Remember the stimulus? How well did "rushing" that one through work out?

Pres BO looks silly when he singles out a media group.

Brian Wilson started The Beach Boys with his brothers, Carl and Dennis. They added Mike Love and Al Jardine. They were one of the most successful US pop groups of our generation.

Along with Lennon-McCartney and the Gibb brothers, Brian Wilson is one of my favorite pop music songwriters.

In fact:

The Iran situation is way beyond a disputed election


For years, we've heard about the unhappy young people of Iran.

We've been told that the young generation wants change, i.e. the freedom to do what most of us do in the West.

The future is here. Have you seen the demonstrations on TV? This is a real uprising!

What should we do?

First, understand that this is beyond an election dispute. No matter what happens, the demonstrators won't be happy.

Second, the mullahs will always blame the US, no matter how hard Pres BO tries to keep a distance: Tehran Accuses U.S. of Seeding Dissent While Opposition Plans New Rallies

Third, I agree with Morton Kondracke: Iran Elections Make Nuclear Talks Harder

Again, what should we do?

We should align ourselves with the future, the demonstrators. They will be running the country soon and we need them to remember that the US was on their side!

"And where is our president?

Afraid of "meddling."

Afraid to take sides between the head-breaking, women-shackling exporters of terror -- and the people in the street yearning to breathe free.

So far, he hasn't. And he won't!

We understand the homosexuals' disappointment. They were huge supporters. They turned out in huge numbers to get BO over the top in all of those early caucuses. They are not happy today: Obama and The Gays--A Non-Love Story Getting Less Lovely By The Minute!

"Don't ask, don' tell" happened in 1993. It was based on recommendations from military officers, or the people responsible for military discipline and performance.

I trust the officers on this one.

The Defense of Marriage Act goes back to 1996. It was a bill signed by Pres Clinton and protects traditional marriage.

Again, we agree with Pres Obama on these two.

Nevertheless, we understand the disappointment of people who invested their hopes and dreams in someone who was running around telling everyone what they wanted to hear!

BO's honeymoon is over!


The NYTimes/CBS News poll has some bad news for the "yes we can" screamers.

It appears that voters like BO but not his policies:

"A substantial majority of Americans say President Obama has not developed a strategy to deal with the budget deficit, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, which also found that support for his plans to overhaul health care, rescue the auto industry and close the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, falls well below his job approval ratings." The WSJ poll is about the same: Public Wary of Deficit, Economic Intervention

So what's going on?

First, the honeymoon is over. It happens to every president.

Second, and most worrisome, Pres BO has projected huge deficits and unleashed a massive expansion of government.

Pres BO has bet his entire presidency, i.e. one or two terms, on a massive economic recovery that brings down the deficits. (Time will tell. We have never had deficits in excess of 10% of GDP!)

My guess is that Pres BO will lose his bet.

First, the deficits will crowd out the money markets. They will force Pres BO to make some very unpopular choices later this year.

Where are we going to find US$ 2 trillion to cover the federal deficit? What happens when the Fed Chairman tells Pres BO that he can't find US$2 trillion worth of buyers of US Treasuries or bonds?

Again, we have never attempted to finance a deficit of 10% of GDP! See Dick Morris and INFLATION LOOMS: O’S DEFICIT DILEMMA!

Second, the expansion of government will create bureaucratic confusion and waste.

We should remember that The New Deal was dramatically defeated in 1938 when Pres FDR lost 71 seats!

Pres LBJ's Great Society created a huge backlash against the Democrats, i.e. they lost 7 of the next 10 presidential elections!

Third, the Dems are rushing much of their legislation. No one is reading these bills or considering the unintended consequences of expanding government like this.

My guess is that something similar is awaiting Pres BO in the future!

Get ready for lower approval ratings.

Get ready for a very frustrated president who will discover that he can't fix problems with a big speech anymore.

The fairy tale will turn into a nightmare! I agree with Jennifer Rubin: "At some point the public may discover that Obama is the one who took over GM, has racked up the biggest deficit in history, wants government to do more and more, and is trying to close Guantanamo. Then the president might have a serious problem. Despite the fondest hopes of the Left it seems there isn’t a groundswell of support for the things he is doing."

Does BO understand the big picture in Iran?


Iran is not getting any better.


"Speaking very broadly, there are two possible outcomes in Iran now.

The regime may succeed in crushing the opposition, enhancing its own power at the expense of whatever pretense of legitimacy it might have had a week ago.

Or it may fail to do so and be weakened or overthrown.

The free world has every interest in encouraging the latter outcome, and someone ought to bring the leader of the free world up to speed on the events of the past few days."

Sen McCain, on the other hand, has been right on target:

""I'm disappointed, it is an American principle ever since our founding that we are dedicated to the principle that all are created equal and the fact is they have the right to free elections and to select their leadership," McCain said."

Iran is the world's most lethal terrorist state. Sooner or later, Israel, with or without the US, is going to have to take out their nuclear facilities.

What can stop such a military action?

The answer is regime change. It's time for the US to support "change" in Iran. Don't pass up this opportunity for "regime change" in Iran!

We salute the good work of the Mexican military again!


As we posted before, it's been a very tough year for Mexico.

Nevertheless, the Mexican military continues its good work.

Today, we learned this:

"The Mexican Navy gave reporters a firsthand look Tuesday at what they described as one of the largest methamphetamine labs ever found in the country, with enough ephedrine to produce more than 40 tons of the drug." (AP)

Pres Calderon and the Mexican military are doing an amazing job, despite limited resources and a very bad economy.

10% unemployment after a $787 billion stimulus?



This is getting very interesting. According to Geraghty, the above chart is popping up everywhere, from Newsweek to FactCheck.org to Ace of Spades.


".....the U.S. unemployment rate will reach 10 percent this year, even as the economy begins to emerge from the recession."

Didn't they say that the US$ 787 billion stimulus would prevent further job losses?


"To get the stimulus passed, the Obama administration promised the moon, and had no idea whether it would work.

One hundred and twenty-one days since the stimulus passed, there is still no sign that it is doing what it was designed to do — mitigate the recession and put Americans back to work."

The stimulus is not stimulating.

Didn't we say this back in February?

The stimulus is also full of waste. IBD has a great editorial today:

"The government's stimulus program, not even six months old, is turning into a major source of both fraud and pork barrel spending.

If this were a private business, it would have been shut down long ago."

Something is wrong. Somebody did not tell the truth about the stimulus and the jobs that it'd create!

Be careful about voting for the guy with lots of promises: Your taxes will go up!


We are now into "details", i.e. how much is all of this going to cost?

How much are your taxes going up? Why should I trade my private sector insurance policy for "BO-Care"?

Rich Lowry has a good post about this thing called "BO-Care":

"The game is simple: Pretend to cut so you can spend."

Where is the money coming from? Nobody knows!

Medicare is going broke. Social Security needs massive reform or the checks will bounce a lot sooner than you think.

Where is the evidence that government can run something effectively and any better than the private sector?

I don't see it.

I certainly don't see it anytime that I walk into the post office or visit a government office!

William Murchison speaks for so many of us who yearn for details and specifics:

"The content-less speech, which you can't remember when it's over except that it sure sounded good, is the Barack Obama specialty.

Audiences eat it up with spoons.

He promises change, promises unity, promises transformation.

It sounds so good you want to march.

March where?

That's the eternal question with Obama."

We need specifics and details. We need a complete cost analysis. We don't need any more speeches about coming together or healing the planet!

Simple question: What's all of this going to cost me and the other half of the country that pays 97% of the federal income taxes!

Obama and Rev Wright's church: An update!


Like most of you, I couldn't understand how BO never heard Rev Wright's rants.

After all, didn't BO once say that he was there every Sunday?

Was he really at church?

Richard Wolffe, an MSNBC contributor and former Newsweek columnist, has just written this about BO:

"Wolffe, in an appearance at the Politics & Prose bookstore in Washington, D.C. on June 15 promoting his book about Obama, “Renegade,” told the audience the president wasn’t naïve about Wright – he was ignorant.

“I don’t think I phrased it as naïve, but I was curious to know, as everyone was what he heard and what he thought about it,” Wolffe said.

“And my conclusion from talking to him and his friends was that the dirty secret of the Rev. Wright episode, which he couldn’t really explain, was that he actually really wasn’t much of a churchgoer.”

So he never went to Rev Wright's church.....thanks for telling us!

Be careful about electing a guy without experience....our enemies will test him all at once!


Iran.....Pakistan....North Korea.....Chavez.....

One by one, the bad guys have decided to test BO's mettle.

So far, you have to say that the bad guys are scoring some points.

Ralph Peters calls it The Obama Effect:

"Perceived as a confession of weakness and guilt, Obama's rhetoric electrified our enemies."

A few months ago, a "yes we can" screamer assured me that BO would change the world with his rhetoric and personality.

As I told the young BO supporter, the bad guys in the world are not into speeches.

In this world, you are either strong or weak.

So far, Pres BO is projecting a lot of weakness!

Congratulations to Ivan Rodriguez!


Ivan Rodriguez is 38 and playing for the Houston Astros.

Tonight, Ivan tied Carlton Fisk with 2226 games behind the plate! He should break the record against Texas since the Astros are here for two more games!

Let me share a couple of Ivan Rodriguez memories.

In 1991, I remember watching his first game on TV. He was 19!

A year later, we went to see an Oakland-Texas game. Early in the game, Ivan threw out Rickey Henderson by a mile. Everybody was stunned, specially Henderson.

Ivan was always a great defensive catcher. Later, he became a very good hitter: .300 batting average, 2649 hits and 300 HRs!

Perhaps, Ivan will finish his career with the Rangers. He'd be perfect as a backup catcher and pinch hitter for the young Rangers.

Congratulations to Ivan, one of the best catchers in baseball history!

OK Letterman: Will the left now leave Palin and her daughters alone?



However, is this the end of mindless attacks on Sarah Palin and her family?

Why does Gov Palin drive these people so crazy anyway? In fact, why do conservative women drive these people crazy: ANDREA TANTAROS: The Latest Media Blood Sport — Attacking Conservative Women

Gov Palin was not our first choice for VP. I was hoping for someone like Romney, Huckabee or even Giuliani.

Nevertheless, Palin turned out to be an exciting candidate.

By any historical standard, she had more executive experience than candidate BO.

After all, she ran a small town and a significant oil producing state. BO has never run anything!

Beyond 2008, we are still amazed at how angry Palin makes liberals.

Why does this woman drive them so crazy?

The answer is abortion, one of the chief gospels of the modern Dem party. Palin is a conservative and very traditional woman, exactly the kind of woman that drives the feminists into rage!

Dear BO: Will your successor be forced to apologize for the US doing nothing when people were shot in Tehran?



Are we now in the business of respecting the sovereignty of thugs who steal elections?

Is that what "hope and change" has turned into? Wonder how the "yes we can" screamers feel about it?

Aren't these the same Dems who criticized Pres Bush for attending the China Olympics?

Isn't this the same candidate Obama who blasted free trade agreements because of human rights violations in Colombia?

Isn't this same BO who wanted to renegotiate NAFTA because of a lack of labor or environmental regulations in Mexico?

Who is going to stand up for people getting killed and brutally attacked in Iran?

We understand that a president has to be careful in responding to international threats.

We are not suggesting that Pres BO say that the opposition won the election.

Shouldn't he formally call on thugs to stop beating up people in the streets?

Stand up for free elections in Iran.

By the way, can someone put a "pro-freedom" speech in Pres BO's teleprompter?

BO's informal remarks at The White House yesterday lacked passion or concern for the people of Iran!

BO's remarks reminded us that this guy can not say a thing without a teleprompter!

This is from Bret Stephens:

"Here's a recent comment from one Iranian demonstrator posted on the Web site of the National Iranian American Council.

"WE NEED HELP, WE NEED SUPPORT," this demonstrator wrote.

"Time is not on our side. . . . The most essential need of young Iranians is to be recognized by US government. They need them not to accept the results and do not talk to government as an official, approved one."

Someday a future president may have to apologize to Iranians for Mr. Obama's nonfeasance"



We agree with Jonah Goldberg: Obama's choice is not to choose on Iran

We need reform NOT Obama-Care!


What about this thing called "BO Care"?


'It's hard to know whether President Obama's health care "reform" is naive, hypocritical or simply dishonest.

Probably all three.

The president keeps saying it's imperative to control runaway health spending.

He's right.

The trouble is that what's being promoted as health care "reform" almost certainly won't suppress spending and, quite probably, will do the opposite."

Does any one really believe that turning health care over to the federal government will reduce costs?

How many "yes we can" screamers believe that nonsense?

Again, governing is harder than campaigning.


"The White House is caught in a battle within its own party over how to finance a comprehensive overhaul of America's health-care system, as key Democrats advocate a tax plan that could require President Obama to break his campaign pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class."

We saw this situation in 1993, the last time we had a Dem president with a congressional majority.

The Dems are for health care until they have to release the details!

What should we do?

First, keep our health care in private hands, doctors and hospitals.

Second, give citizens a tax credit to purchase private insurance policies.

Third, provide "cards" to those under the poverty line.

Let the federal government guarantee access but keep the industry under private control.

Cheney has won the national security debate!


A month ago, the "yes we can" screamers couldn't wait to get into a fight with former VP Cheney.

Today, and a few polls later, the "yes we can" screamers are black, blue and very sore.

The latest FOX poll has very bad news for BO and the "yes we can" screamers:

"There is widespread belief that President Obama made a mistake by announcing he was going to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay before having a plan for what would happen to the detainees.

Fully 77 percent of Americans think the president made a mistake, including almost all Republicans (94 percent) and independents (81 percent), as well as a majority of Democrats (61 percent).

A growing majority of Americans think the military prison at Guantanamo Bay should stay open.

Some 60 percent say they think Gitmo should not be closed, up from 53 percent in April and 45 percent in January."

The FOX poll has more bad news for BO and "the screamers": Americans Say Obama Not Tough Enough on North Korea, Iran

"Hope and change" goes very soft on Iran!


We don't know what happened in Iran.

Who won what and how much? Who counted votes?

I don't trust thugs! My feeling is that the Iranian authorities stole the election!

I agree with The Wash Post: Neither Free nor Fair

We do know that the regime is firing at demonstrators and shutting down telephones.




Sooner or later, Pres BO needs to line up with reformers. Frankly, what's he waiting for?


"“We can inspire and invite other people to assert their freedoms;

...we can speak out on behalf of local leaders whose rights are violated;

and we can apply economic and diplomatic pressure to those who repeatedly violate the rights of their own people.”

Why did Pres BO make such soft remarks yesterday?

We are not suggesting that the US inject itself in another country's election. We shouldn't pick winners or losers!

We are simply calling on Pres BO to stand with those who believe in "change" and honest elections!

The world is watching and Pres BO is talking about waiting for the guys who stole the election to investigate the election. What kind of investigation does Pres BO think will happen in Iran? We think that Pres BO is passing up the best opportunity to reform Iran in 30 years!


"Now more than ever, President Obama must not appear over eager to engage Iran after what may turn out to have been a rigged election.

Unless Iranian fury touches off sustained nation-wide protests that destabilize the 30-year old Islamic regime — an unlikely scenario since the mullahs and the military have the guns –- Obama will find his administration engaging a regime whose duly, or unduly elected president holds views that the president himself, in his now-famous Cairo speech to Muslims called “baseless,” “ignorant,” and “hateful.”"

Where is that "hope and change" speech when we really need it?

Is VP Biden the only guy telling the truth in BO's White House?


During the campaign, candidate Biden said that BO would be tested early.

Over the weekend, VP Biden admitted the obvious:


Yes, everybody "guessed wrong", specially the people who pushed this thing called a stimulus.

We say it again.



"Now that Barack Obama has promised to start really spending the Porkulus money in an effort to dent the upward trajectory of unemployment before it hits double digits, people have begun to wonder whether the projects have any value — except as window dressing.

The Los Angeles Times reports that many of these projects are of “dubious merit,” and that some of them almost literally amount to putting window dressing on abandoned houses."

"For starters, Canadians find February’s $787-billion stimulus package as stimulating as a cold shower on a hot date.

It requires American-made construction materials in all federally funded public-works projects.

This “Buy American” provision would keep U.S. roads, bridges, and tunnels free of Canadian iron, steel, and other components, although such Canadian inputs were allowed before the Democratic Congress passed and President Obama signed this measure."

When will Canadian companies call for the return of Bush?

Bush understood free trade and economics!

What's more valuable to Canada? A president who believes in abortion and same sex marriage? Or a president who understands free trade?

What about Mexico? BO and the Dems have messed up our trade relations with Mexico:

"Democrats claim Mexican trucks are dangerous.

However, the Arizona Republic found that between 2003 and 2007, 1.2 percent of Mexican truckers in America were non-compliant with safety rules, versus 7 percent of U.S. drivers.

As Arturo Sarukhán, Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, wrote in the March 18 Wall Street Journal:

“During the 18 months that the program was in operation, 26 carriers from Mexico (with 103 trucks) and 10 from the U.S. (with 61 trucks) crossed the border over 45,000 times without any significant incident or accident.”

“Mexico has been the grown-up in this dispute,” says Dan Griswold, Director of the Cato Institute’s Center for Trade Policy Studies.

“Our truck ban is just an exercise in raw power based on a stereotype of Mexicans.”"

Here we are.

BO and the Dems think that the Mexicans can't drive safe trucks.

Are these the same people who used to say that we need to make friends overseas?

How do you make friends by lying about Mexico? Every Mexican should be outraged with BO, Pelosi and the Dems who promote lies about their country.

"Hope and change" is not about change or hope.

It's about paying back all of those unions who spent millions to elect BO!

As I wrote before, don't blame me because I voted for McCain!

Why is Texas doing well in the middle of a recession?


What do California, Michigan, NY, PA and a few others have in common?

Taxes are high and no one in their right mind wants to open a business there.

What about Texas?

Texas is still growing and taking in lots of "economic refugees" from high tax states.

Why is that? Check out Texas v. Ohio:

"Texas embraces free trade, keeps taxes low, doesn't impose unions on business and has tooled itself for 21st century global competition."

Last week, the Texas legislature shot down a bunch of anti-business ideas. It was made possible by conservative Dems who understand how jobs are created.

The WSJ has a good summary of the situation:

"Speaking of the economy, it's notable that Texas created more new jobs last year than the other 49 states combined.

Texas's low tax burden is one reason.

But also important is a fairer legal environment in which companies are less likely than they were a generation ago to face jackpot justice."

Welcome to Texas.

We like producers. We love employers. We don't like taxes. We believe in making it easy for companies to be profitable and expand their operations.

We understand how jobs are created!

How in the world do you negotiate with a guy who just stole the election?

How do you talk with someone who is unleashing brutal force on his own people?

As always, you can count on Sen Joe Liebermann to stand for freedom:

"“Unfortunately, on Friday, the Iranian people were denied this right, enjoyed by Iraqis and Lebanese and so many other peoples throughout the world, to determine the future of their country for themselves.

Instead, through intimidation, violence, manipulation, and outright fraud, the Iranian regime has once again made a mockery of democracy, and confirmed its repressive and dictatorial character."

It's time for Pres BO to give another Middle East speech.

Pres BO's silence is a bit confusing.

Stand up and support the demonstrators. They need the US and the West now more than ever.

Why have the Longhorns gone this far? The answer is a 2.84 team ERA.

Good luck to the Longhorns. They will be celebrating in Omaha and bring another baseball title to Austin!

P.S. What happened to the Aggies? It breaks my heart but they couldn't get out of the regionals!

Romney is our 2012 choice


It's early but we are supporting Mitt Romney for the 2012 nomination.

To be fair, there are some other names on the list.

I like Mike Huckabee a lot.

Tim Pawlenty has been a strong governor of Minnesota.

Sarah Palin enjoys passionate support from the base.

And don't forget about our own Gov Rick Perry of Texas.

Who knows what the country will look like in 2012?

Don't let them steal the election!


This is the official vote report:

"The Interior Ministry said Saturday afternoon that Mr. Ahmadinejad had won 62.6 percent of the vote, with Mir Hussein Moussavi, the top challenger, taking just under 34 percent.

Turnout was a record 85 percent." (NYT)

Nobody in Iran believes this vote. And we shouldn't either!

Stand with the people of Iran.

Don't legitimize these thugs!

Euros to BO: Socialism doesn't work!


A week ago, Europe made a sharp political turn to the right.

Iraq and Iran: A couple of different elections!


Last January, Iraqis went out to vote for provincial leadership. It was a smashing success, unless you are so hung up on Bush Derangement Syndrome that you need to go out for some fresh air.

Also, 4,000 women ran for office in the new Iraq! Who would have believed that a few years ago?

Yesterday, they had an election in Iran.

Who won? We don't know. However, we do know that the situation in Iran is getting very hot!

Over the next few days, we will watch the situation in Iran.

No matter what happens in Iran, it is an amazing contrast to the peaceful elections in Iraq!

BO's ugly October (and I don't mean Halloween)



In a previous post, I told you to keep your eye on September 30th, or the end of the federal fiscal year.

Normally, the President and Congress close the books at the end of September.

Also, this is the day that The Fed sells treasuries to make up for the deficit.

In recent years, it's been very easy: 2 or 3% of our GDP. No sweat!

It won't be easy this fall: 10-15% of our GDP. We have never been there before!

Around October 1, Chairman Bernake will make a very difficult trip to The White House.

He will tell Pres BO that we can't find $2 trillion of buyers!

He will also tell Pres BO that we have a few ugly options.

Check out Dick Morris and Obama’s issues crumbling :

"If Obama refuses to cut back on his spending/stimulus plans (despite convincing evidence that Americans are not spending the money), he has three options:

a) He can raise taxes, which will trigger a deeper recession;

b) He can print money, which will trigger huge inflation;

c) He can pay more interest to borrow money, which will send the economy diving down again."

They are horrible options.

There are some problems in the Dem party over the deficits and the health care proposals that will cost billions of dollars. Like closing GITMO, it's a lot easier to talk about health care in the campaign than to actually come up with a plan. Just ask the Clinton '94: Centrist Dems raise big concerns

So far, Pres BO has blamed Pres Bush. He can't do that too much longer. BO owns the deficits because of the mammoth $800 billion stimulus that hasn't stimulated anything: Blaming the Guy Who Came Before Doesn’t Work Long By PETER BAKER

Sooner or later, this massive government surge will run out of money: Reagan in Reverse: Obama's big government will run out of gas by Gary Andres.

Again, we don't have the money. The Economist calls it: Seeing red

Let's hope that he has the mental toughness to ride it out! It will be an awful 12-18 months for Pres Obama.

Happy # 85 to Pres Bush




We wish Pres Bush a very happy # 85.

He looks a great! (And so does Mrs Bush who was recently hospitalized)

Let me say this: I don't watch Letterman.

Frankly, I watch ESPN and catch up with sports scores at 10:30 CT.

Or I'd rather watch a Rangers or Stars game in the West Coast at that time.

Nevertheless, it was shocking to hear Letterman's latest joke about Gov Palin's daughter:

"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez." (Malcolm)

Are Letterman's joke writers sick? Are they short of material?

Or is Palin Derangement Syndrome alive and well in liberal land?

Here is my question: Where are the feminists? Where are they when men take cheap shots at Miss California or Miss Palin?

Where is NOW and all of those liberal women who are always barking about attacks on women?

Here is the truth: The feminists don't like Gov Palin, Miss Palin or Miss California.

Why? Because Gov Palin, and her daughter, decided to have their baby rather than get an abortion! And Miss California believes that marriage is between a man and a woman!

BO and Europe: Lots of love on the surface and confusion underneath!



Ralph Peters doesn't see a lot of love between BO and our Euro allies:

"They got what they wanted. But it isn't what they expected.

President Obama may be the least Europe-friendly occupant of the White House since James Monroe (the guy who put up a "Keep Out!" sign on our hemisphere).

Bam clearly doesn't like Europeans."

As they say.....be careful what you wish for.....you may get it, along with all of the protectionism that comes with it!

BO's worst nightmare: He can't fix the coming inflation or unemployment with a speech!


It was so much fun to be a community organizer!

I will repeal "don't ask, don't tell".....

I will sign FOCA on my first day on the job......

I will withdraw our troops from Iraq......

I will renegotiate NAFTA.......

It's a lot more difficult to sit in the Oval Office, as Pres BO is learning every day.

The stimulus program is now under scrutiny.

So far, the money is still in the bank and everybody is complaining about the bureaucratic requirements.

Unemployment jumped to 9.4%

Inflation is headed our way and BO can't stop with a speech. ARTHUR B. LAFFER has a warning for BO and the rest of us: Get Ready for Inflation and Higher Interest Rates---The unprecedented expansion of the money supply could make the '70s look benign!

I hope that The White House reads this one: For Obama, the hardest part is yet to come

Here is an unreported fact about BO vs the Dem majority in Congress:

"At home, Democrats are balking at giving Obama money to proceed with the prison shutdown unless and until he can assure them that the detainees won't be sent to U.S. prisons.

The Senate voted 90-6 last month to reject his request for funding to start the shutdown process. Even as Obama headed to Germany on Thursday, the House voted 412-12 to bar Guantanamo detainees from flying on commercial aircraft in the U.S. if they're released here.

On Afghanistan, where he's sending more troops to fight a resurgent Taliban, Obama's facing complaints from the party's liberal wing.

Last month, 51 House Democrats voted against the $96.7 billion emergency war spending bill, largely because they objected to the lack of a plan for the Afghanistan war.

"I get a sense of mission creep," said Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore."

I get a feeling that the honeymoon is over.

For some, and specially those invested in the personality cult, BO can't do wrong.

For most of us, we will measure results vs expectations!

The Republicans are in a great position to make a huge comeback in the 2010 midterms!

This is for those who bought into the nonsense that only 5% would see a tax increase!


In the next couple of years, Pres BO will face a crisis like no other.

We call it debt!

There aren't enough of them.

Within a decade the average household that pays income tax will owe the equivalent of $155,000 in federal debt, about $90,000 more than last year.

What the Obama administration isn't telling Americans is that the only practical solution is a giant tax increase aimed squarely at the middle class."

Update on "the fairy tale", part 2


We bring another update on BO's fairy tale, also known as "the stimulus".

The AP has a good one today.


"Obama admitted his own dissatisfaction with the progress but said his administration would ramp up stimulus spending in the coming months.

The White House acknowledged it has spent only $44 billion, or 5 percent, of the $787 billion stimulus, but that total has always been expected to rise sharply this summer."

What's wrong with that approach? The stimulus was not designed for spending in 2009!

This is why so many of us opposed this farce a few months ago!

We favored a real stimulus designed to give the "private sector" the incentives to hire people and produce things!

It was never a stimulus program. It was a politically motivated proposal intended to care of the unions (i.e. Mexican trucks) and to promote protectionism (i.e. just ask Canadians!)

Pres BO has put himself in a miserable situation.

The stimulus is not working and we have no money to do another stimulus! It's going to get very frustrating in the Oval Office over the next few months!

Just how bad was that economy that victim BO "inherited"?


Professor Mankiw is a professor of economics at Harvard University. He has a good blog: Greg Mankiw's Blog: Random Observations for Students of Economics!

As we go from "blaming Bush" to "holding BO accountable" for his decisions, we see that Pres BO is once again playing the victim role.

Yes, BO wants you to think that he "inherited" something bad. In fact, it was so bad that it will take a lot more than "hope and change" to fix it.

As you can see from Prof Mankiw's chart, this recession is not The Great Depression Chapter 2.

In fact, this recession is comparable to others!

We posted several times last year that all of the Dems' "doom and gloom" was based on politics not economics.

We also told you several times that this 2008-09 recession has a regional flavor. California stinks. Texas does not! Michigan is in terrible shape but much of the "right to work" southern states are doing better.


"Our economy has indeed been in terrible shape lately, with millions of families struggling with falling incomes, job losses, home foreclosures, and plummeting wealth.

The current recession is severe by any reasonable metric.

But it still pales in comparison to the Great Depression."

We tell you today: BO inherited a recession just like Bush inherited a recession in 2001. In fact, it's quite common for presidents to inherit recessions, i.e. Reagan 1980, Clinton 1992!

Unlike Bush, who looked to the private sector to bounce back, BO has unleashed the greatest expansion of government in years.

What's the situation today? The US economy is getting worse because of the spending and debts created by Pres BO! Again, get ready for a federal deficit relative to GDP of over 10% this fall! (It was always in the 2-4% range under Pres Bush!)

Yes, we may soon be calling it The Great Depression! It will have a twist of "hope and change" and lots of "yes we can" screamers!

Memo to the "yes we can screamers": Presidents don't create jobs!


Today, Pres BO was forced to deal with the obvious: Presidents don't create jobs! They make phony claims and create big deficits!

Unfortunately for Pres BO, jobs are created in the private sector.

Unfortunately for all of us, Pres BO does not understand how jobs are created.

After all, this is a man who has never run anything or created any jobs in the real world!

How many jobs can a community organizer create?


"Fiction: When he signed the stimulus, President Obama said that the legislation “will create or save 3.5 million jobs over the next two years.”

Reality: According to the Administration, $112 billion from the stimulus has been spent or obligated so far.

Assuming that the President’s unsubstantiated claim that the legislation has saved 150,000 is correct, each job saved by the first $112 billion in stimulus spending cost $746,600.

At that rate, the entire stimulus would “save” 1 million jobs—far less than the 1.6 million lost since the stimulus was signed.

At a total cost of $787 billion, that is a net loss of at least 600,000 jobs."

The stimulus is not working. Soon, no one will be working either!

Bill Katz discusses the Jewish vote in the US


Like so many of you, I can not understand how Pres BO got any support from Jewish-American voters.

However, he did.

We asked Bill Katz to address this subject.

And he did.

"Now Silvio passes on to me a question from one of his listeners in Colombia: How can Barack Obama get 78% of the so-called "Jewish vote"?

The question is undoubtedly prompted by what many perceive to be Obama's less-than-enthusiastic support for Israel and his association, in the past, with some religious and academic figures widely regarded as hostile to Israel, or even anti-Semitic.

The question goes right to the heart of American ethnic politics, now more commonly called identity politics.

Different ethnic groups, at various times in their history, do have an affinity for one party or the other.

At one time the "Catholic vote," especially in large cities, was reliably Democratic. Not so much any more.

And the "black vote," before the 1930s, was actually Republican, a reflection of the affinity of blacks for "the party of Lincoln."

The Jewish vote is more heavily Democratic than that of any other ethnic group except blacks.

That may be changing slowly among younger Jews, but the statistic remains valid.

The affinity is based on these things:

1) All American Jews came from immigrant populations. In the "old countries" it was the liberals, the leftists, who were more likely to protect Jews or at least leave them alone. That is not true today, but beliefs die hard;

2) American Jews are among the most educated groups in the world, and the general liberalism of universities has its effect, if, in our view here, a pernicious one;

3) Jews associate the Democratic Party with the founding of Israel. If it weren't for Harry Truman's recognition of Israel, against the advice of the State Department crowd, Israel might never have survived. Again, that is the past. Today, the Republican Party is more supportive of Israel than is the Democratic Party, but those old traditions are stubborn;

4) Jews tend to be wary of evangelical Christians, even though they are fierce defenders of Israel. Historically, evangelical Christians sought to convert Jews. I think the Jewish fear is foolish and behind-the-times, and is far from universal, but it persists in some Jewish circles. Many Jews see evangelicals as part of the GOP base.

5) All Jews in the Senate are Democrats, and all Jews but one in the House are Democrats. This has its effect;

6) Historically, Republicans were awkward, slow, or indifferent in their outreach to Jews and other minorities;

7) Even though the civil-rights movement has a strong anti-Semitic element, Jews still identify with it, recalling their own period of being discriminated against. So voting for Obama fit in with their history;

8) Culturally, Jews tend to be urban or suburban, and that's where the Dems are.

There are, of course, prominent Jewish Republicans, and Joe Lieberman is almost there.

And the Jewish vote can be switched, which would have a great effect on the overall vote in some of our largest states.

Forty percent of the Jewish vote went for Eisenhower in 1952, but Republicans failed to exploit it.

And 39% of the Jewish vote went for Reagan in 1980.

Again, Republicans failed to exploit it.

Reagan, unfortunately, was followed by Bush 41, who was antagonistic to Israel. In 1992 Bush got 11% of the Jewish vote.

People ask how Jewish voters could reject George W. Bush, possibly the greatest friend Israel, and the Jewish community, ever had in the White House.

It's baffling, and was wrongheaded in my view.

It was equally wrongheaded for Jews to reject John McCain, a true friend, in favor of Obama, whose record on Israel was vague. (In fairness, though, Obama has always had a close relationship with the Jewish community of Chicago.)

As I said, voting habits die hard, especially when they're reinforced by universities and by the Republican Party's often awkward outreach.

But habits, I'm firmly convinced, can be changed. If Obama persists in his current foreign-policy course, we may see some change we truly can believe in." (Bill Katz and the Jewish vote)

How many campaign promises will Pres BO break? Just ask the homosexuals!


You can add the homosexuals to the growing list of Obama voters who don't understand "broken campaign promises".


During the campaign, candidate BO promised to repeal it. So far, he has not!

This is not going over very well: Obama's Betrayal on Don't Ask Don't Tell by Shikha Dalmia.

This is a decision for the military brass. They are the ones who must deal with the consequences of having openly homosexual members in the military.

Back in 1993, the military persuaded Pres Clinton to sign "don't ask, don't tell".

It has worked well so why change it?

The NY Times is right: BO's health care promise means lots of new taxes!


We don't usually agree with The NY Times. However, today's editorial has one big truth in it:

"For Congress and the administration to keep the promise of comprehensive health care reform, they will have to find the political will to pay for universal coverage and other investments that are needed right away but will not produce quick savings.

The cost could reach $1.5 trillion over the next decade." (NYT)

We don't want universal health care, i.e. code word for having the government take over health care!

I am very happy with my private sector health insurance policy.

As McCain said during the campaign, we should give every US family a "tax credit" so that they can buy their own policy.

We need to say NO to any kind of government takeover of health care!

Yes, it's time to believe in Ron Washington and the '09 Rangers!


Team Pres. Nolan Ryan, Owner Tom Hicks, GM Jon Daniels and everyone at the Rangers' office must be thrilled with the 2009 Rangers.

Today, they extended Manager Ron Washington's contract for another year.

Winning means contract extensions! It also means bigger crowds!

First, the Rangers are 33-23 and leading the LA Angels by 4 games.

Second, the Rangers own the sports pages. The Stars and Mavs did not do anything this spring. And everybody is still furious with the way that the Cowboys quit on the last game of the season!

Welcome to the Texas Rangers, a young team that has a lot of good young players!

What's going on with these young Rangers? The answer is pitching and the incredible development of Nelson Cruz!

Cruz came here in 2006 when we got Carlos Lee from Milwaukee. Cruz was added to the trade and spent much of 2006-07 in AAA. Last year, he destroyed AAA pitching and came up in September.

Cruz is destroying a lot of major league pitching. He has 17 homeruns and has stepped in for Josh Hamilton, currently on the DL. (Cruz ably filling Hamilton's cleanup spot)

Cruz is getting a lot of RBI chances because of Ian Kinsler (15 HRS for a lead off hitter) and Michael Young, (.338 and headed for another 200 hit season).

So far, so good.

We know that 56 games is not the full season. There are still 106 games left. Baseball is a marathon. Crazy things always happen in the last 50 games!

Put me down as a believer. The Rangers will be playing for the AL West in late September!

Why is Fox News beating the crap out of CNN and MSNBC?


Would you like to drive a liberal crazy?

Say Fox News.

Why is Fox News doing so well these days? (May Ratings: FNC Beats MSNBC and CNN Combined Again)

Let's look at some numbers. This is from a post by Ed Driscoll:

"Now, seven months after Barack Obama’s victory, CNN’s ratings have gone down the drain.

From May of last year to May of this year, CNN lost 22% of its total primetime audience.

MSNBC was down 2%, while FoxNews was up 24%.

In the key advertising demographic (25-54), Fox was up 31%, CNN was down 37% and MSNBC was down 26%.

In hard numbers, Fox had 109,000 more viewers than last year while CNN lost 113,000.

CNN averaged fewer than 200,000 25-54 viewers in primetime.

Even MSNBC averaged more viewers than that."

Let me give some reasons:

1) First, and foremost, TV cable news is about personalities. Fox owns the personality game. O'Reilly, Hannity and Greta are the top 3 personalities in TV cable news.

2) Second, how about some fair coverage? Have you seen Keith Obermann?

What can you say about a guy who invites guests like John Dean and every other left wing head case in the country?

Obermann is a great show for people infected with Bush Derangement Syndrome.

What's wrong with that? Bush has been living in Dallas since January!

At some point, people will turn off Oberman's nightly "Bush bashing" and click O'Reilly for a real world discussion.

At least, O'Reilly has liberals like Juan Williams, Dr Marc Hill and Allan Colmes on a weekly basis to debate the issues.

Ed makes a good point in his post:

"You don’t think it could also have anything to do with moments such as this and this, do you?

And as P.J. Gladnick of Newsbusters asks, “Maybe the TV audience is growing weary of the MSM treating Barack Obama as Sort of God and want some realistic news coverage of his administration.”"

Say it again: Wouldn't it be nice to watch something "objective" about BO on MSNBC?

For the moment, the US public is turning on Fox and turning off CNN and MSNBC.

P.S. Unfortunately, most of the world is not aware of how CNN has collapsed in the ratings. Why? Because CNN owns the hotel and airport outlets.

Therefore, most of the world watches CNN and misses what is really going on in the US.

A big day for Sarkozy, Merkel and the anti-BOs in Europe!



It was a great day for conservatives all over Europe:



In Spain, PM Rod-Zapatero, a first class charlatan who exploited the Madrid train tragedy to win the election, was dealt a severe blow.

Across the continent, all of the good guys are winning:

Sarkozy in France;

Merkel in Germany;

and Berlusconi in Italy.

We hope that Pres BO and the Dems check out these elections. The Euros are rejecting the kind of policies that BO and the Dems are proposing over here!

According to the AP:
