From "great speaker" to "he talks too much"!
"There is something odd -- and dare I say novel -- in American politics about the crowds that have been greeting Barack Obama on his campaign trail.
Hitherto, crowds have not been a prominent feature of American politics.
We associate them with the temper of Third World societies.
We think of places like Argentina and Egypt and Iran, of multitudes brought together by their zeal for a Peron or a Nasser or a Khomeini.
In these kinds of societies, the crowd comes forth to affirm its faith in a redeemer: a man who would set the world right."
FOUAD AJAMI is a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, is the author of "The Foreigner's Gift" (Free Press, 2007).
Professor Ajami was right about the irrational behavior of Obama's crowds, or the "yes we can screamers" as we call them in this blog.
Professor Ajami issued a warning in October 2008:
"Victory will steadily deliver the sobering verdict that our troubles won't be solved by a leader's magic."
Lets' check out Professor Ajami today: The Arabs Have Stopped Applauding Obama
"'He talks too much," a Saudi academic in Jeddah, who had once been smitten with Barack Obama, recently observed to me of America's 44th president.
He has wearied of Mr. Obama and now does not bother with the Obama oratory.
He is hardly alone, this academic. In the endless chatter of this region, and in the commentaries offered by the press, the theme is one of disappointment.
In the Arab-Islamic world, Barack Obama has come down to earth."
Professor Ajami issued a warning before the election.....and he has another one today.
Pres BO's candidacy was based on a total and complete fantasy. I guess that it's all crashing with reality now!
