Dear Pres BO: Are you really committed?

On Tuesday night, Pres BO will escalate the Afghanistan War substantially.

My guess is that most Republicans will agree and most Dems will not!

However, can Pres BO convince the bad guys that he is tough and committed to finishing this job?

I agree with The Washington Post's editorial:

"But the most important messages will be those received in the war zone. Experts concur that a large majority of Afghans do not wish to see a resurgence of the Taliban but that many will be inclined to support the side that they believe is most likely to prevail.

Pakistan's military commanders, too, will carefully measure U.S. resolve before deciding to break irrevocably with the Afghan Taliban leaders based in their country.

If the new American strategy is cluttered with "exit ramps" or closely linked to timetables, the effect of the additional troops will be undermined."

In simple terms, tell the generals and the world that the US is in for the long run and will fight to win!

What happens next?

2010 will be brutal and let's pray that US casualties are low. However, we will have casualties because the fighting will intensify.

Can Pres BO be tough enough to stick with such a plan?

Let's hope so because the Dems are already "cutting and running"! By the way, didn't Dems used to say that Afghanistan was the central place in the war on terror?

This is no time for "a mushy focus" or healing the planet speeches full of unspecific generalities!

Weakness will undermine our troops, scare allies and embolden the enemy.

Our mission must be clear: We will win and the terrorists will suffer a huge defeat!

Otherwise, Afghanistan and Pakistan will question our resolve.

And Iran and North Korea will also see our shaky resolve!

I will support Pres BO in Afghanistan if he is tough and resolute! I hope that he gives me an opportunity to support him!

Once again, the UK is stepping up and supporting the NATO mission:

"British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's office says he will confirm that 500 extra U.K. troops are heading to Afghanistan"

It is very important that every NATO country contributes to the mission.....otherwise, what's the point of NATO?

I agree with Jennffer Rubin:

"Frankly, it might be a good time for the president to battle his left flank and demonstrate some moxie, if he has it.

The world and a vast number of centrists in America, not to mention conservatives, think he’s a wimp.

This is his time to prove them wrong."
