In our previous post, we raised objections to having a president give "a first week of school" speech.
We are not opposed to a proclamation or informal remarks about staying in school!
We did not object when Pres BO spoke to black kids about the importance of getting a high school degree.
We don't even mind admitting that BO and Michelle Obama are wonderful role models for kids!
They are!
However, this is different.
One of my favorite Dems responded to my post by reminding me that Bush-41 and Reagan did the same thing!
Nice try.....but they did not!
It's not even close!
Bush-41 gave a speech about education in 1991.
Indeed, he spoke at a high school but the speech was not broadcast to classrooms.
Also, there were no "lesson plans" accompanying the speech!
Reagan did speak to informal gatherings of students during his two terms.
In fact, I saw one on C-SPAN in late 1988! It was a speech to college students at the end of his presidency.
Again, they were not required TV for students.
Also, Pres Reagan did not submit "lesson plans" to the professors or teachers.
Nice try but not the same thing.
So why do we object?
Frankly, it's not the president's business to talk to children in our classrooms.
We live in a country where schools are run locally.
Thank God for that!
Education is something for parents and school districts. This is why we have parents who run for school boards that oversee our schools!
From George Washington to George Bush, no president stuck his nose in our children's classrooms.
"The President of the United States — whether an Obama a Bush or a Lincoln — is not my son’s daddy.
That’s my job.
We’ve had enough nannystatism, and enough daddystatism, too."
Back to the speech.
This is going to be a speech about BO not the children.
BO is promoting BO!
Second, it is a speech that includes lesson plans about BO.
Did you hear about the school projects proposed by BO's Dept of Education?
How about the one having children engage in correspondence with the president? What genius at the White House came up with that?
This is why parents are outraged. We don't want 5 or 6 year olds turned into pawns to promote "hope and change", specially when "hope and change" is crashing in the polls!
Parental outrage? We hear that the White House has been forced to take back all of the materials meant for lesson plans, homework or distribution.
Parental outrage? This is why so many school districts are refusing to show the speech.
Again, we are not alone in our criticism.
"Dickinson ISD teachers and other staff will not present the live address to students on Tuesday.
If parents wish for their children to view the speech, we believe the appropriate thing to do would be for parents to record the speech, view it and discuss it at home with their children."
"The change comes as at least one more Dallas-Fort Worth school district decided Thursday morning not to show the speech."
"School districts from Maryland to Texas are fielding angry complaints from parents opposed to President Barack Obama’s back-to-school address Tuesday – forcing districts to find ways to shield students from the speech as conservative opposition to Obama spills into the nation’s classrooms." This is from the AP:
"Districts in states including Texas, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia, Wisconsin have decided not to show the speech to students.
Others are still thinking it over or are letting parents have their kids opt out."
We see this from ABC: School Districts in Six States to Refrain from Showing Presidential Address Next Week
We see this: North Texas schools won't carry speech...
We see this: PARENTS REVOLT OVER PLANNED OBAMA LECTURE TO STUDENTS...
Again, this is a bad idea. It is a combination of narcissism and self-promotion.
In 1961, Pres JFK asked: What can you do for your country?
In 2009, Pres BO is asking: What can you do for BO?
Again, it is a very bad idea.
I'm glad that parents are revolting across the land!

A good note from Michelle Malkin:
"Ask moms and dads in Farmington, Utah, who discovered this week that their children sat through a Hollywood propaganda video promoting the cult of Obama.
In the clip, a parade of entertainers vow to flush their toilets less, buy hybrid vehicles, end poverty and world hunger, and commit to “service” for “change.”
Actress Demi Moore leads the glitterati in a collective promise “to be a servant to our president.”
Musician Anthony Kiedis pledges “to be of service to Barack Obama.”"

This is from Charles A. Donovan:
"What's troubling here is that a government-prepared lesson plan seemed to ask students what they could do for President Obama."
