45 years ago today: We finally made it to the US!

(Perhaps our last picture in Cuba. I am the one on the right. Our little sister is to the left. My brother is holding our little cousin. Our older cousins are standing behind!)


It was a very hectic day for our family.

We spent two months in Jamaica working on our visas to come to the US.

My father could not work so we were supported by my two uncles in the US.

We took a flight from Kingston to Miami.

Along the way, we flew over Cuba on our way to the US.

Coincidentally, we flew over my mother's hometown.

We also celebrated my brother's birthday in the plane.

We landed in Miami around 9pm.

We were finally on US soil after leaving Cuba 2 months before.

A week later, we flew to Wisconsin to start our new life in the US.

It's hard to believe that it was 45 years ago. Again, we express our gratitude to our parents for their sacrifices and for standing up against communism!
