Over the last few years, I've been one of the 11am ushers at St Catherine of Sienna. It's a good job because I get to shake a lot of hands. (I like shaking hands!)
Robert Jagers is a parishioner. He is also a World War II veteran and the author of "Whales of World War II".
In fact, Robert dedicated one of the books for our # 3 son a few months ago. It was a great honor for our family!
Today, we remember men like Robert. This is a bit about Robert's life from an interview with Karen Andrews:
"“I was born in 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. I graduated high school in Grand Rapids......"
On page 109 of "Whales of WWII", Robert recalls D-Day and his participation. He remembers the heroic work of US, UK and Canadian young men landing all over the French coastline. It must have been an awesome day for a 22-year old sailor.
Thank you Robert and every other D-Day veteran.
