Ivan Rodriguez is 38 and playing for the Houston Astros.
Tonight, Ivan tied Carlton Fisk with 2226 games behind the plate! He should break the record against Texas since the Astros are here for two more games!
Let me share a couple of Ivan Rodriguez memories.
In 1991, I remember watching his first game on TV. He was 19!
A year later, we went to see an Oakland-Texas game. Early in the game, Ivan threw out Rickey Henderson by a mile. Everybody was stunned, specially Henderson.
Ivan was always a great defensive catcher. Later, he became a very good hitter: .300 batting average, 2649 hits and 300 HRs!
Perhaps, Ivan will finish his career with the Rangers. He'd be perfect as a backup catcher and pinch hitter for the young Rangers.
Congratulations to Ivan, one of the best catchers in baseball history!
