Who is calling the Republicans a regional party?

For the record, this is the 2008 county by county election results.

Am I the only person in the world who sees more red than blue?

Who is the regional party? Check out the blue!

Once again, we read the Republican Party's obituary.

They wrote it after the 1964 election. The Republicans made a huge comeback in 1966 and paved the way for winning 5 of 7 presidential elections: 1968, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2004!

In 1972 and 1984, Nixon and Reagan carried 49 states.

In 1980 and 1988, Reagan and Bush-41 carried over 40 states.

Between 1968 and 2004, no Democrat got 51% of the popular vote.

So what's new?

They are writing the Republican Party's obituary again.

They say that we are a "white party", an odd claim in a country with 58 white Dem in the US Senate.

What's VP Biden's skin color?

Back to the obituary.

Was it me or weren't they saying four years ago that the Dem party was a coastal party?

Jim Geharty and I have similar memories:

"Maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but I remember back in the ancient bygone year of aught-four, when people were bemoaning the Democrats' transformation into a party that could only compete on the West coast and in New England, effectively ceding the rest of the country to the Republicans.

This was, as I recall, the whole impetus behind Howard Dean's "50-state strategy," and why many Democrats were looking toward a Mark Warner or Evan Bayh candidacy before the roof caved in on Republicans."

So don't panic.

We will back. We will back for two reasons:

1) It's good to lose once in a while. It forces parties to reassesses their strengths and weaknesses.

2) The Dems are now governing. They are now making decisions. They are now responsible for keeping us safe.

Last, but not least, don't underestimate the Dems' incredible ability to mess it up.

They did under LBJ, Carter and the first two years of Clinton.

Again, what has happened the last 3 times that a Dem president had huge majorities in Congress?

They messed it up and we came back.
