Richard Benedetto is a retired USA Today White House correspondent and columnist. He now teaches journalism and politics at American and Georgetown universities.

He is right. The media has not been acting like the media that we've grown accustomed to.

We are not suggesting a "gotcha" media.

We are not calling for a media that slices every presidential word and ridicules every mistake.

What we want is a media that will ask a few questions.

Mr Benedetto has it right:

"This is all well and good, as long as we do not forget our function as government watchdog.
