Closing GITMO was easy until Obama had to close it!

The 'let's close GITMO to be popular around the world" story is a mess.

Thomas Joscelyn adds another angle to this crazy campaign promise:

"There are about 100 citizens of Yemen at Gitmo - the most of any nationality.

Most of the Yemenis are alleged to have significant terrorist ties.

Their home country is a mess and infested with al Qaeda terrorists.

The situation in Yemen is so tenuous that the Obama administration, which originally wanted to send the Yemeni detainees home, is attempting to find somewhere else to transfer them.

Saudi Arabia, the supposedly next best option, does not really want the Yemenis and it is not clear that the Saudi rehabilitation program could even house them.

Other than that, closing Gitmo should be easy."

What happened to all of that great Pres BO diplomacy? It was successful as BO's request to get Euros to send troops to Afghanistan:

"The administration’s Gitmo diplomacy has gone nowhere. European nations are not keen on taking the detainees."

So here is our choice:

They stay in GITMO or they come to a maximum security prison in some one's congressional district.

Nobody wants them so just keep them in GITMO! In the meantime, it's fun to watch BO trying to deal with another silly promise made to the "yes we can screamers"!
