Can Pres BO make up his mind on NAFTA?

Pres BO is having a lot of problems making up his mind on NAFTA.

He is doing what we call "The Texas 2-step"!

In simple terms, he is caught between reality and very stupid campaign promises.

Let's take NAFTA.

In a previous post, we spoke about the importance of the US-Mexico relationship.

Why does Mexico matter? Trade, the border, drugs.

It does not help when Mexico gets so many signals from our new president.
Wonder what Pres Calderon thinks of Pres Obama now?

Today, we learned from El Paso Times that the US will not make NAFTA changes:

"The White House is reviewing the North American Free Trade Agreement, but there is no indication yet that it or parts of it will be renegotiated, said Kent Shigetomi, an U.S. trade official, at the University of Texas at El Paso.

The U.S. government is not shrinking back from trade, because "the truth is, we need to expand trade to grow our economy," and with other regions in the world in addition to Mexico and Canada, said Shigetomi, director of the Office of Mexico, NAFTA and the Caribbean Affairs, of the U.S. Trade Representative in Washington."

What's next? Will another administration official contradict this?

Here is the bottom line: Pres Obama has put the US in violation of NAFTA. Mexico retaliated and our farmers are hurting.

So far, nothing has changed! We are still in violation of NAFTA. This is a very weird way of building goodwill with our trading partners!
