Pres BO keeps saying that he inherited a mess at GITMO.
Actually, he didn't!
GITMO was never an issue with the US public. There was no political uproar over GITMO.
It was a Dem primary issue.
Of course, it was also a conversation point for Euros who love to punch the US but have refused to take any of the GITMO detainees.
In fact, GITMO is the perfect place to keep people who want to fly airplanes into buildings or blow up bridges.
They can't take off from GITMO or blow up The Brooklyn Bridge.
In other words, they can't kill anybody in GITMO.
The NY Daily News got it right a couple of days ago:
"The U.S. should keep the place open - not because a SuperMax facility wouldn't safely hold Al Qaeda types, but because they don't belong on American soil with whatever rights attach to that."
Keep it open. There is nothing shameful or "anti-American values" about locking up people who want to kill us.
P.S. In the meantime, BO is having difficulties with a GITMO plan that makes sense and keeps the "yes we can" screamers happy: Obama's incoherence on terrorist detainee policy!
