The Obama White House needs to come clean and call for the cancellation of NAFTA.
Pres BO is now the president of the US.
BO is no longer giving speeches before people jumping up and down saying "yes we can"!
In other words, we can't have "NAFTA a la BO"!
We either respect the free trade agreement or we pull out.
By the way, renegotiation is a bad idea specially since we have an extremely good arrangement for Canadian oil!
This "trade war" is a profile in cowardice.
It reflects Pres BO's unwillingness to stand up to an important constituency of the Dem party.
Pres BO and the Dems just voted to kill Pres. Bush's Mexican trucking program. (Pres Bush extended this program last summer!)
Does that make any sense?
How does a "nation of laws" pass a budget that includes a clear violation of a free trade agreement signed in 1993?
It makes no sense.
Are these the guys who are supposed to make us popular around the world?
Have you checked with Pres Lula of Brazil or PM Brown of the UK?
Don't ask Pres Calderon of Mexico. I'm sure that he'll have a few 'expletives" about "Hope and Change".
Pres Uribe of Colombia is not into "hope and change" either!
What's going on?
The Dems don't have the guts to stand up and cancel NAFTA.
They understand that such a move is not politically possible.
What do political cowards do?
They allow little provisions to go into the law and hope that no one notices them.
Once again, it's a profile in cowardice! It's amateurish behavior!
Doesn't this remind you of the Iraq War debates? They were against the war but didn't have the guts to cut the funding.
Today, The Boston Herald's editorial nails the Dems on the "safety canard":
"The Teamsters’ beef has been that Mexican trucks are unsafe.
This is, well, just fertilizer.
In a joint U.S.-Mexico inspection program, randomly stopped Mexican trucks were in violation of regulations 20.7 percent of the time vs. 21.6 percent for U.S. trucks.
A pilot program to allow as many as 500 Mexican trucks to make deliveries here was ended in a provision of the recent $410 billion omnibus spending bill." (Doing wrong by Mexico)
Pres Obama needs to stop cracking jokes about the disabled and address this matter immediately.
What kind of signal are we sending to the world?
Wonder what Canada, the other party in NAFTA, thinks about this?
Pres Obama and the Dems didn't even have the decency or courtesy to call the Mexican Embassy and say: "Amigo, we are going to change NAFTA!"
How does Pres Obama sign a bill that includes a violation of an existing free trade agreement?
Again, Pres BO should be a man about this.
It's time to get out or abide by NAFTA.
P.S. Don't expect too much from this man. We are talking about the guy who sat in Rev Wright's church for 20 years and never heard anything!
