Lula to Obama: Free trade, free trade and free trade
Fausta is one of our favorite bloggers.
It's very nice to see that we saw the same thing in this Lula-BO press conference.
My first reaction: What happened to those formal press conferences that we used to have with heads of state?
Doesn't Brazil, one of the top 10 economies in the world, qualify for one of those?
PM Brown and the UK didn't. Pres Lula and Brazil didn't!
I'm serious. Who is doing protocol at the Obama White House?
Have they filled that job yet? Or did he run into tax problems too?
I mean those nice settings with lots of flags and press members.
I miss the pageantry of two presidents taking questions from their respective press corps.
My second reaction: Lula is all about free trade!
Again Fausta captured this message in her post:
"Obama’s talking progressive policies, Lula is talking about free trade and business." (Fausta)
Check out this one from Pres Obama:
"The “Buy American” provision will not violate WTO rules...."
What in the world does that mean?
Is that like "I sat in Rev Wright's church but didn't hear anything for 20 years"
Pres BO seems tied up between campaign promises, i.e. the interest groups that got him elected, and the reality of governing. Let's hope that he picks up his game!
