Hello world: Free trade is in trouble because of your blind love for Obama!

It didn't take long.

Here is an interesting headline:

Love affair between Canada and President Obama appears to be coming to an end.

The Canadians are a bit concerned that "hope and change" has a very protectionist streak.

In fact, Toronto's Globe and Mail has an article about a potential trade war with our allies.

Of course, we did warn our friends around the world that "hope and change" was a bit of a fairy tale.

It's a shame that they were so angry with Pres. Bush that they took the other medicine without reading the contents.

Didn't we tell our friends overseas to check out Gerard Baker's great posts from the UK?

Remember Europe will miss George Bush when he's not around:

"And when it comes to free trade he, like the Democratic Party, is decidedly not keen on being nice to foreigners."

The Dems love foreigners as long as they are buying from US plants staffed by union workers.

Protectionism is back because the Dems are back:

"On Tuesday the Senate Appropriations Committee added "manufactured goods" to the list of items that must be American-made in order to qualify for stimulus dollars under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Congress is signaling to the rest of the world that U.S. protectionists are in charge."

Protectionism as Stimulus )

John at Power Line has a great post:

"The Dems' pork bill is bad in just about every possible way.

One feature of the bill that hasn't received a lot of attention (here, anyway) is the "buy America" provision.

But the Europeans have noticed, and they say it may lead to a trade war." ("US-EU Trade War Looms")

Again, we warned the world that Obama-mania was a prescription for US protectionism.

Obama and the Dems are in the pockets of labor unions.

Don't you remember all of the nonsense in the primaries about NAFTA?

Don't blame me. I voted for McCain and his "free trade" approach.
