The Obama transition goes on:
"Barack Obama suggested he's not likely to actively pursue criminal charges against national security officials who were directly involved in unlawful interrogations or wire-tapping, and said it would be difficult to quickly close down Guantanamo Bay." (POLITICO)
When did he change his mind?
Let me say this:
First, it would be stupid to prosecute people who were carrying out orders.
If Obama disagrees with Bush then he should call for Pres. Bush's prosecution.
He has less than two weeks to do that! Don't hold your breath!
Before he does, he may want to do a little background work.
Obama will find that Dem leaders were present at the wiretapping meetings.
Also, let's not forget that these are the same Dems who said "vote for us and we will end the Iraq War".
What did they do after winning the 2006 mid-term elections? They didn't have the guts to cut the funding.
Moral of the story: The Dems are good talkers, specially when the polls are on their side.
Second, when did Obama realize that closing GITMO would be difficult?
Did he decide after he was elected? (I love Don Surber's Gitmobama)
In other words, did he decide after he told the "yes we can" screamers what they wanted to hear about GITMO, Iraq and everything else.
Before the election, an Obama supporter said this:
A vote for McCain is a vote for staying in Iraq, keeping GITMO open and continuing the Bush policies.
I voted for McCain and that's what I got!
Wonder how long before the "yes we can" screamers will throw Obama under the bus?
P.S. Check out Bill Kristol:
"Obama did note that he differs with Cheney on “some things that we know happened,” including waterboarding.
And he did reiterate his pledge to close Guantánamo.
But he warned that it was “more difficult than I think a lot of people realize,” explaining that while he was committed to the rule of law, he wasn’t interested “in releasing people who are intent on blowing us up.”"
Time out: Isn't that what we have been saying for the last few years?
