We are happy that Pres-elect BO and Pres. Calderon met yesterday!
There is a lot on Pres. Calderon's plate.
Obama's mission was to listen and offer whatever help it's necessary to make Calderon's presidency a success.
This is not about Calderon. This is about Mexico. Calderon must succeed or Mexico will fail!
Unfortunately, Obama is apparently still looking for union votes in Ohio. Obama did not leave all of the "populist NAFTA nonsense" out of the meeting.
According to The Dallas Morning News, Obama tells Calderón he wants to 'upgrade' NAFTA!
We are not sure how you "upgrade" NAFTA, specially without consulting with Canada, the other part of NAFTA.
PEBO did not get the memo. NAFTA is a 3-country agreement.
PEBO must be confused. We are taling about NAFTA not upgrading your Big Mac meal!
Also, how in the world does PEBO tell Mexico to improve its environmental and labor standards anyway?
Maybe PEBO was just talking!
In 48 hours, PEBO said that the wants to close GITMO and then he said that closing GITMO was more difficult than people realize.
Again, maybe PEBO is just keeping the party's left wing happy. Frankly, the party's left wing is up in arms since PEBO spoiled the anti-war dance by retaining Sec Gates in Defense!
Unfortunately, Mexico is too serious for PEBO's double talk or left wing "cat fights"!
We direct PEBO and the "yes we can" screamers to Mexico and its President Face Dismal Prospects in 2009 By Patrick Corcoran.
It's going to be very nasty down in Mexico in 2009.
Again, PEBO didn't get the memo. PEBO is still telling the "yes we can" screamers what they want to hear!
As they said in Apollo 13: Failure is not an option!
In this case, failure means Colombia circa 1980s on your border!
We can not allow that happen.
Don't get me wrong. I'm usually an optimist. I lived in Mexico during the awful 1982 crisis. I saw the 1994 peso collapse from Dallas.
The current Mexican situation is a lot worse than that.
The 1982 and 1994 crisis were economic. They were eventually corrected by the serious policies of Pres. De La Madrid and Pres. Zedillo, respectively.
The 2008 crisis is a matter of national security.
Yes, Pres. Calderon is a very serious man. Unlike his predecessors, he faces a direct challenge to the survival of Mexico's institutions.
Again, the situation in Mexico is very serious!
Do we want a failed state on our border? Do we want more and more people headed north looking for work?
General Barry R McCaffrey USA (Ret), is a very smart guy.
He just posted a
Mexico report. This is a summary of Gen. McCaffrey's report:
"The incoming Obama Administration must immediately focus on the dangerous and worsening problems in Mexico, which fundamentally threaten US national security."
Here is the bottom line warning:
"Mexico is on the edge of the abyss—it could become a narco-state in the coming decade."
It's time for PEBO to stop campaigning and contemplate the national security consequences of a failed Mexico.
