Impeachment is easy. It's the subsequent trial that scares Dems!

The Illinois legislature is planning to impeach Gov. Blago next week. My guess is that it should pass with a very substantial majority.

However, this is only step 1.

Step 2 is a trial and conviction or acquittal by the Illinois Senate.

Step 1 is political posturing.

Every legislator will give his "our state deserves better" speech.

Step 2 is actually a trial. Blago's attorneys will challenge the accusations.

In this trial, Gov. Blago will have a chance to say a few things about all of those he met over the years, including the fellow just elected to the presidency and the next White House Chief of Staff!

My guess is that this will drag on for a while.

Isn't Prosecutor Fitzgerald going to have some say on what evidence comes out? He seems have to all of the explosive material.

Let's see what happens next week with Mr. Burris goes to Washington.

I can't wait to see Sen. Reid's face!

P.S. To make matters even more comical, we learned that Majority Leader Reid has a little explaining to do too:

"Sources say the Senate majority leader pushed against Jackson and Davis — both democratic congressmen from Illinois — and against Jones — the Illinois Senate president who is the political godfather of President-elect Barack Obama — because he did not believe the three men were electable. He feared losing the seat to a Republican in a future election.

Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero confirmed that Reid (D-Nev.) and U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) — the new chief of the Senate Democratic political operation — each called Blagojevich’s campaign office separately Dec. 3.

Sources believe that at least portions of the phone conversations are on tape."
