GITMO is now Obama's challenge!

GITMO is one of those unpleasant realities of fighting people who don't wear uniforms and use innocent people as human shields.

GITMO is a tough call. However, what else do you do with people like that?

Do you bring them into US courts? You can't because it would expose evidence and agents infiltrating terrorist groups.

Do you release them? That's not a good option either.

Today, we learned that "....Sixty-one detainees released from the U.S. Navy base prison in Cuba are believed to have rejoined the fight, said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell, citing data from December.

That's up from 37 as of March 2008, Morrell said. "

Again, GITMO is one of those unpleasant realities of fighting a very different kind of war.

Bush has been unfairly maligned for GITMO.

The Dems will now have to deal with this problem, and so many others unique to fighting a war against terrorists.

We wish the Dems well. However, don't be surprised if Obama I looks a lot like Bush III.

Last, but not least, who is going to explain to a mother that her son serving in Afghanistan or Iraq was killed by a GITMO alumni?

P.S. During the past election, we heard a lot about BO voting "present' in Illinois. We may be seeing some of that now on the matter of GITMO:

"President-elect
Barack Obama plans to issue an executive order on his first full day in office directing the closing of the Guantánamo Bay detention camp in Cuba, people briefed by Obama transition officials said Monday.

But experts say it is likely to take many months, perhaps as long as a year, to empty the prison that has drawn international criticism since it received its first prisoners seven years ago this week.

One transition official said the new administration expected that it would take several months to transfer some of the remaining 248 prisoners to other countries, decide how to try suspects and deal with the many other legal challenges posed by closing the camp."
