How much doom and gloom is too much doom and gloom?

BO is Mr. Doom and Gloom. Everything is terrible. Everything is horrible.

In fact, the US is doing better than the countries. Most of the world would love to live under our economic "doom and gloom".

Check the numbers. Professor VD Hanson's post (America’s political, social, and economic system is still by far the most resilient in the world) compares the US to the other industrial nations:

"First, oil prices are crashing.

That will soon save us hundreds of billions in imported-fuel expenses, while denying our overextended enemies — in Russia, as well as in Iran, Venezuela, and others in the OPEC cartel — half of their accustomed cash to cause trouble.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is increasing natural-gas production; is likely to increase drilling offshore; will all but certainly soon build more nuclear-power, wind, and solar plants; and is sitting on the world’s largest coal reserves.

A new generation of hybrid, electric, and flex-fuel cars are on the horizon that could even shave off more from our imported-fuel bills.

Second, we are already way ahead of the rest of the world in dealing with toxic debt.

Western Europe is discovering that its banks lent more against their reserves than did their American counterparts.

European real estate was often more inflated than our own.

Bankers in Frankfurt, London, and Paris are looking at trillions of dollars in uncollectible Euro loans throughout Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe.

Most of our toxic debt was at least owed as mortgages by fellow Americans; far more of Europe’s is owed by those outside the European Union.

Even when the United States is reeling from financial panic, foreign investment continues to flow into America; the dollar, meanwhile, is climbing against the Euro. China’s export-driven and Russia’s energy economies are in crisis.

They may have hundreds of billions in dollar reserves, but as the world energy and consumer economies slow, both countries lack our institutions, infrastructure, and broad flexibility to easily rebound.

Third, the United States is still growing as the population of Europe shrinks.

The populations of Japan and China both age at a faster rate than America’s does.

Russia faces the perfect storm of a declining, aging, and increasingly unhealthy population.

The result is that America can much more easily grow itself out of a housing glut.

Fourth, the war in Iraq is no longer even a war in a traditional sense.

In July, four times as many Americans were murdered in the city of Chicago in peacetime than were killed in Iraq at war in the same period.

The cost of deploying American troops in Iraq is nearing the expense to station them elsewhere abroad.

As Iraqis continue to take over additional provinces, the American presence will shrink further."

Again, doom and gloom is in vogue. However, there is no reason to jump off the roof. The US will recover, get up and bounce back.

Don't fall for all of the doom and gloom. You are so lucky to be living in the US!

Happy Halloween!

At around 6pm, little kids will come to your door and say "trick and treat". Make sure that you have lots of candy.

I have always been curious about the story of Halloween, specially when we have a candidate promising a tax cut for 95% of the population.

Nevertheless, I read that Halloween goes back to the Celts about 2,000 years ago!

Don't hold me to the Celts' version. However, it sounds pretty dramatic.

About 10 years ago, my wife and I took the boys around to get candy from our neighbors. Today, our sons are in college or going to a Halloween party.

My wife and I just hand out candy these days!

Enjoy your Halloween!

What scandals will follow BO to the White House?

There are some interesting stories brewing in the media.

First, ACORN just doesn't go away. John Fund, who has written extensively about vote fraud, report this:

"The FBI is investigating its voter registration efforts in several states, amid allegations that almost a third of the 1.3 million cards it turned in are invalid.

And yesterday, a former employee of Acorn testified in a Pennsylvania state court that the group's quality-control efforts were "minimal or nonexistent" and largely window dressing.

Anita MonCrief also says that Acorn was given lists of potential donors by several Democratic presidential campaigns, including that of Barack Obama, to troll for contributions."

Over at The Washington Post, Matthew Mosk reports this:

"Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign is allowing donors to use largely untraceable prepaid credit cards that could potentially be used to evade limits on how much an individual is legally allowed to give or to mask a contributor's identity, campaign officials confirmed.

Faced with a huge influx of donations over the Internet, the campaign has also chosen not to use basic security measures to prevent potentially illegal or anonymous contributions from flowing into its accounts, aides acknowledged.

Instead, the campaign is scrutinizing its books for improper donations after the money has been deposited."

Up in Chicago, the AP reports that Tony Rezko is talking to get a shorter jail term:

"Convicted political fixer Antoin "Tony" Rezko has been quietly visiting Chicago's federal courthouse, setting off speculation that he may be spilling secrets to prosecutors in return for a lenient sentence."

In Ohio, we are learning that the efforts to destroy "Joe the Plumber" were more than originally stated:

"When last we heard from Helen Jones-Kelley, the director of Ohio’s Job and Family Services Division insisted that she has everyone who gets public attention checked to see if they owe family support.

Now, with more details about the searches performed on Joe Wurzelbacher becoming public, Jones-Kelley acknowledges she didn’t quite tell the entire truth at first.

Her department also ran checks on taxes and welfare payments to see if they could catch Joe the Plumber cheating the system." (Morrissey)

Over at The LA Times, there is apparently a video tape that could blow a huge hole in Obama's credibility about Israel and associations:

"In radio interviews while campaigning in Florida, which has a large Jewish voting population, McCain accused the Los Angeles Times of media bias for declining to release a video it obtained of Obama attending a 2003 going away party in Chicago for Khalidi. Khalidi is a Palestinian rights advocate and critic of Israel.

A former University of Chicago professor, he was leaving for a job as a professor at Columbia University in New York.

At the party, which the Times wrote about last April, Obama praised Khalidi and vice versa.

But Khalidi also told the Times in that story that he disagreed with Obama's pro-Israel views." (In Florida, McCain links Obama to critic of Israel)

Will any of this come back to haunt a Pres. Obama? I don't know for sure but there is a little too much smoke out there.

Back in 1992, we were told that character did not matter. We learned later that the economy was OK but Clinton's character wasn't!

Good luck to the Mavericks!

Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs start the 2008-09 season against Houston. The Mavs have a new coach, Rick Carlisle, but the team has not changed much.

"Up and down the roster, the Mavericks have players who have something to prove.

Jason Kidd is trying to show he's got something left in the tank in a season when he'll turn 36 and is trying to earn next year's contract.

Dirk Nowitzki wants to prove he is a championship-worthy superstar.

Antoine Wright and Gerald Green need to show they are solid NBA players. Erick Dampier must become the rebounding beast that the Mavericks need him to be.

Jason Terry has to be a shooter, and Jerry Stackhouse and Devean George have to stay on the court.

Management must hope it all comes together to justify the Kidd trade of last season.

And, of course, there's Josh Howard, who has a big bag of chips on his shoulder after a tumultuous past year.

Forget the U.S. Olympians. This is the real Redeem Team."

The Mavs' fans are still furious because of the back to back to back playoff collapses.

Let's hope that the Mavs will reward the fans with a championship.

The Stars and Mavs play at the American Airlines Center, one of the most beautiful places in the country. It's time for the local teams to hang some championship flags!

Barack in Wonderland!

Last night, we heard it again: Vote for BO and everything will be just great.

The air will be pure.

The planet will heal. (Moses couldn't say it any better!)

The world will love us. (We will go back to the days of Clinton when we were attacked often, our embassies blown up and no one at the UN wanted to do anything about anything. But they will love us!)

The rich will pay their share. (95% of us will get a tax cut! BO now defines a tax cut as mailing a check to someone who does not pay taxes!)

The middle class will blossom again. (Don't we already have the world's largest middle class? Why are all of those people lining up at every US embassy around the world?)

Last, but not least, your wife won't complain anymore because you listen to the entire Cowboys' pre-game and post-game shows!

Sorry. How can so many people be so foolish? How can so many Americans be this gullible?

In Reality Check: The Cost Of Obama's Pledges, Wyatt Andrews goes point by point and reaches a simple conclusion:

"If he closes every loophole as promised, saves every dime from Iraq, raises taxes on the rich and trims the federal budget as he's promised to do "line by line," he still doesn't pay for his list.

If he's elected, the first fact hitting his desk will be the figure projecting how much less of a budget he has to work with - thanks to the recession.

He gave us a very compelling vision with his ad buy tonight.

What he did not give us was any hint of the cold reality he's facing or a sense of how he might prioritize his promises if voters trust him with the White House."

Obama's Economic Mythology By Steve Chapman puts all of BO's doom and gloom in some perspective. Believe it or not, things are not as terrible as BO is saying!

Obama is a farce and a lie. I just can't believe that so many people fall for this sort of thing!

Congratulations to the Phillies!

Let's hope that MLB does not have a repeat of game 5.

I can't recall anyone winning the World Series over a "3 day game". It was a little strange to tune into a baseball game starting in the bottom of the 6th!

Some of us will forever second guess Commissioner Selig for not calling game 5 after 4 innings. I just think that it would have been better to play a normal game 5.

Nevertheless, the Phillies were the better team.

In the end, they got better starting pitching, clutch hitting and the amazing closing work of Brad Lidge.

I said Phillies in 7. They did it in 5!

The Rays did a great job. They surpassed every level of expectation imaginable. The Rays have a great future and will get a lot better. Watch out for BJ Upton and Evan Longoria.

Philadelphia has some of the nation's most passionate fans. They live and die with the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers and Flyers.

Unfortunately, the local teams have not won many titles.

The Phillies won in 1980 but lost the 1983 and 1993 series.

The Eagles have had great teams but no rings. (The Cowboys had something to do with that in 1990s)

The Flyers won a title in 1970s but nothing since. The 76ers have not won anything for a long time either.

Again, congratulations to the Phillies and their great fans.

Enjoy the championship parade and stay out of the sleet!

Isn't it great to hear Harry Kalas finally call a Phillies WS victory?

BO is not JFK!

Joe Biden is going from gaffe to gaffe. Biden's latest is to compare BO to JFK.

Wonder what JFK thinks about that?

Every Dem has been trying to be JFK since the unfortunate tragedy in Dallas. JFK became a myth that day.

BO knows how to play the JFK card before Dem audiences. Unfortunately, BO is a very bad JFK.

Let's start with national security. My guess is that JFK would have left the Dem party years ago over national security. Lieberman, not Obama, is the real heir of JFK's national security vision.

Let's go to taxes. JFK believed in tax cuts for everybody. JFK understood that low taxes create prosperity. In '63, JFK sounded a lot like Bush and Reagan and cut taxes for those who pay taxes!

Jonah Goldberg compared JFK and BO last year:

"One of JFK’s original apostles, former speechwriter Ted Sorensen, is touting Barack Obama as JFK’s “heir.”

But heir to what?

Certainly not policies of any kind.

Obama is dovish in every way JFK was hawkish.

Indeed, Obama is to Hillary Clinton’s left. National Journal rated him the most liberal senator of 2007.

Sorensen himself admitted in a 1983 Newsweek interview that JFK “never identified himself as a liberal; it was only after his death that they began to claim him as one of theirs.”

He went on to say that “on fiscal matters (JFK) was more conservative than any president we’ve had since.”

BO like JFK? No way!

Rush Limbaugh on PDS!

In case you missed it, Rush Limbaugh unloads on PDS.

I like this: Sarah Palin is a typical American woman from the heartland.

BO has to hide his associations because they are left wing wackos.

Check out Rush. It is very interesting! I agree with Rush that there is a huge backlash brewing over the way Sarah Palin has been treated.

video

Shouldn't The LA Times let Jewish Americans see the video?

This is what we hear:

"The LA times has a video of Barack Obama toasting this friend of his while attending a Jew bashing dinner, and they are refusing to release the video to the public."

Why not release the 2003 tape and end the suspense?

According to Gateway Pundit, the event was an "Israel bashing" dinner:

"According to Wallsten the evening not surprisingly turned into a classic Jew-bash:

"During the dinner a young Palestinian American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism in its treatment of Palestinians and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel.

If Palestinians cannot secure their own land, she said, "then you will never see a day of peace."

One speaker likened "Zionist settlers on the West Bank" to Osama bin Laden, saying both had been "blinded by ideology.""

OK. I have not seen the tape. However, it puzzles me that The LA Times doesn't just release it.

Let the public see it, specially Jewish-Americans who are sensitive about Obama's commitment to Israel.

Release the video tape! Let the voters see this tape.

PDS and a couple of idiots in LA!

Palin Derangement Syndrome is alive and well near LA. (Effigy of Sarah Palin hanging by a noose creates uproar in West Hollywood)

When is something funny? When is something just plain sick? You can put me down as someone who thinks that this is sick.

Also, what if they did it to Obama?

Take it down. This is a disgusting way of celebrating Halloween. Why isn't this a hate crime?

Beyond the bad taste, this is another example of PDS and the American left.

The American left hates Sarah Palin because she had a baby rather than an abortion. In '91, Clarence Thomas had to be lynched because he did not kiss Jesse Jackson's ring to get ahead in life. In 2008, the feminists have declared war on Sarah Palin because she is not of them!

A photo ID is the best answer to ACORN!

ACORN has put vote registration fraud all over the map. ACORN pretends to be non-partisan but they are the registration division of the Dem party.

How to Steal the Election in a Few Simple Steps by Kevin Hassett is the latest piece on the ACORN scandal.

Again, there is a simple solution: a photo ID!

In Texas, they are asking for a drivers' license in order to vote early. I like it!

How can any reasonable person object to a photo ID to vote?

What happened to journalism in 2008?

Where is the media outrage?

We hear that The LA Times has a video tape that won't make Obama look good with Jewish voters:

Change the facts. Do you think that The LA Times would hold a video of McCain and David Duke?

Where is the media outrage?

Obama does not do press conferences:

"But the Democratic presidential nominee hasn't held a full press conference -- submitting himself to more than a handful of questions from his whole press corps -- in more than a month, since Sept. 24, 2008, in Clearwater, Fla." (ABC)

This is the same Obama who promised to do "town hall" debates.

This is the same Obama who is getting a free ride from the media.

This is the same Obama campaign that is boycotting a Florida station that "dared" ask a question.

Who is the biggest loser of the 2008 election? The media!

"The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling.

And over the last few months I've found myself slowly moving from shaking my head at the obvious one-sided reporting, to actually shouting at the screen of my television and my laptop computer.

But worst of all, for the last couple weeks, I've begun -- for the first time in my adult life -- to be embarrassed to admit what I do for a living.

A few days ago, when asked by a new acquaintance what I did for a living, I replied that I was "a writer," because I couldn't bring myself to admit to a stranger that I'm a journalist."

The bias is self evident.

We dedicate The Beatles' "I'm looking through you" to the media:
video

Sarkozy can smell a weak Dem all the way from Paris!

We hear that Europe hates McCain and Bush. We hear that Europe wants Obama.

It does not appear that Pres. Sarkozy is one of those Europeans.

According to Haaretz, Sarkozy is concerned about Obama:

"French President Nicolas Sarkozy is very critical of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama's positions on Iran, according to reports that have reached Israel's government.

Sarkozy has made his criticisms only in closed forums in France.

But according to a senior Israeli government source, the reports reaching Israel indicate that Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate's stance on Iran as "utterly immature" and comprised of "formulations empty of all content.""

Sarkozy is not your typical European. He understands that Europe can't defend itself and is drowning under the welfare state. (Want a preview of Obama economics? Move to France, Germany or Italy!)

P.S. Let me say it again: Let's trade Obama for Sarkozy.

Obama sounds a lot like one of those European socialists who want to destroy jobs.

Sarkozy sounds a lot like a conservative Republican who understands how wealth is created. Also, Sarkozy understands that you don't protect your freedoms with meaningless UN resolutions!

Does your ticket to BO's big party have a full refund clause?

Do me a favor. I'm just looking out for you!

I'm just a friend preventing another "liberal election night" meltdown.

Call your travel agent. Make sure that the ticket to Chicago's big party has a full refund clause. Has he charged your credit card yet?

This election is not over. In fact, McCain is going to win.

What about the polls?

What about them?

Which poll do you believe? The one showing Obama up by 14? Or the one showing a dead heat?

Also, what's new about Obama? Check out the audio tape from 2001 that just hit the fan yesterday.

Obama is, and was, a left wing ideologue:

"The tape recording of an interview that Barack Obama gave to Radio Station WBEZ in Chicago in 2001 surfaced, and in that interview Mr. Obama, then a law professor and a state senator, lays out how he would redistribute the wealth.

He sounds like a man with a plan.

The interview explains a lot, beginning with the attempt, abetted by a mainstream media that no longer tries to hide its slavish obeisance to the Democratic campaign, to destroy Joe the Plumber and shut down discussion of the implications of what the candidate said." (Pruden)

What's new about Obama?

The answer is nothing. This is the same stuff that we've heard from the left before. This is leftism in a DVD format.

We had the LP version years ago, then the 8-track tape, then the cassette, then the CD and now the DVD.

Quin Hillyer has a message for those of you planning to buy a ticket to the BO inauguration:

"The Obama souffle is slowly starting to settle.

I think the souffle hit its peak last Thursday or so. It hasn't been popped -- it's not going to go "Poof" all at once -- but it is settling.

And it still has eight more days to settle -- plenty of time for a souffle to get stale and mushy, even if properly refrigerated." (Pruden)

This is not over. Spend your money wisely and make your plans accordingly. At least, don't say that I didn't warn you!

P.S. For more on Obama, see Jonah Goldberg's Obama's not 'new'!

Sad to hear about Dean Barnett

For a couple of years, I've enjoyed reading Dean Barnett at The Weekly Standard.

Also, Dean was a frequent "sub" on The Hugh Hewitt Show.

Today, we learned that Dean died after a long fight with cystic fibrosis. Dean recently wrote about his struggles in The Smart Spunky Kid with the Fatal Disease:

"As I grew sicker, I had what for me was an extremely comforting insight.

I came to view serious and progressive illness as an ever constricting circle with oneself at the center.

The interior of the circle represents the contents of one’s life.

As the circle gets smaller, things that were inside get forced out. Some of these things are dearly missed; others that were once thought precious get forced to the exterior and turn out to go surprisingly unlamented.

At the innermost point of the circle are the things that really matter: family, faith, love.

These things stay with you until the day you die.

At the very end, because the circle has shrunk down to its center, they’re all you have left.

But as we approach that end, we finally realize that all along, they were what mattered most.

As a consequence, life often remains beautiful and worthwhile right up until the end."

I loved Dean's articles. I loved his New England accent when he was on the radio. Dean was naturally a huge Boston Red Sox fan!

I was not surprised at all of the tributes published today, specially the one from Hugh Hewitt making reference to Dean's essay about his illness.

Our sympathies to Dean's family!

Should the Stars sign the Cowboys' punter?

Here is a great hit.

Here is a better question: Should Sam Paulescu do some checking for the Stars between NFL games?

The 3-4-2 Stars could use a little injection of energy. The Minnesota Wild is here tonight. They should dress up Sam and line him up next to Brendan Morrow.

This is a great play: The punter nails the guy returning the punt.

video

The Dems don't like questions!

What happens when a reporter isn't in the tank for Obama?

What happens when a reporter actually confronts the Dems with a tough question?

Joe Biden was finally asked a question about his "crisis comments".

How did Biden react? He got mad.

How did the Obama campaign react? They are not going to answer questions from this reporter or TV station anymore! (Obama campaign cuts off WFTV after interview with Joe Biden)

Freedom of the press? The Dems believe in freedom of the press as long as you are asking softball questions:

Hey Sen. Obama, what's your favorite baseball team, the Cubs or Sox?

Hey Sen. Biden, what's your favorite train ride? the morning or evening shuttle?

The Obama campaign doesn't like to answer questions.

Let me tell you this: If elected, Obama is going to be very secretive and will not have a good relationship with the media. Eventually, every criticism of Obama will be answered with a "you must be racist".

Again, they don't like questions, specially those questions that challenge them!

video

Why aren't we forcing the candidates to talk about entitlements?

The media's role in the 2008 presidential election has been a major disappointment.

Why isn't the media challenging the candidates on entitlements?

I just saw this great article: Ten Myths About Budget Deficits and Debt by Brian M. Riedl.

We must confront entitlements or they will land with a vengeance on a future president's desk. Furthermore, it won't be long before they do, specially Medicare which is totally out of control.

McCain and Obama have spent so much time talking about spending and pork projects.

Yet, that's not the real problem.

Of course, we must curb spending and "pork" projects.

However, it won't be enough just to cut spending and eliminate all of those "pork" projects that make good political attacks.

Our biggest problem is entitlements, i.e. future promises.

Again, see the article for more details and graphs!

How do you tackle entitlements?

First, you need a president who doesn't read polls. It will be extremely unpopular to fix Social Security and Medicare.

Second, you need a president who can work with the other side. At the very least, a president who has a resume that confirms that he can work with the other side. You can't fix the entitlement crisis on a party vote basis!

We should demand more specifics on how McCain or Obama will tackle entitlements.

At least, McCain has a track record as a deficit hawk.

Obama just has a very vague resume and a tendency to tell people what they want to hear!

The latest from ACORN

John Fund has an update on ACORN:

"Last week Michael Slater, head of its Project Vote, admitted that some 400,000 of its claimed 1.3 million newly registered voters were rejected by election officials as either duplicates or fraudulent -- i.e. it doesn't sound as if Acorn's vaunted "quality control" efforts were all that effective."

The bad news is that they tried to register over a million new voters. The good news is that about 400,000 were rejected.

Don't hire anyone from ACORN to do your quality control!

Sooner, rather than later, the Justice Dept. needs to take a strong look at ACORN.

It's a racket.

It's a racket for the purpose of registering Democrats!

Hello # 11 Roy Williams: Welcome to Dallas!

The Cowboys were 3-0 and looking Super Bowl bound. Today, they are 5-3 and headed to NY to play the Giants next week.

It's likely that they will be 5-4 after losing to the NY Giants on the road. It's hard to beat Manning and the Giants in NY,

Frankly, I'll take 5-4, a bye week and the return of Tony Romo in two weeks. A healthy Romo can go 5-2 or 4-3 down the stretch and put Dallas in the post season.

It won't be the 13-3 that I predicted. However, I'll take 10-6 or 9-7 and a wild card position. This is about getting into the post season. Just ask The NY Giants who beat Dallas, GB and New England!

Here is the bad news: The Cowboys are not scoring, Also, the Cowboys' locker room is starting to look like a hospital---Tony Romo (pinkie), Terence Newman (groin), Kyle Kosier (foot), Felix Jones (hamstring) and Anthony Spencer (hamstring)!

That's a lot of NFL talent on the sidelines.

Here is the good news: They won! They beat TB, 13-9!

Dallas beat Tampa Bay but it got really scary at the end. The Bucs had the ball on Cowboys' territory with less than a minute to go. The Cowboys' defense stopped a 4th and 5 short pass and it was over.

Here is even better news: New Cowboy Roy Williams caught a TD pass! We needed that!

The glass is half full for the Cowboys. It will be really full next week if they can beat NY without Romo and so many others! Welcome to Dallas, Roy Williams!

video

Who was looking into Joe the Plumber's personal files?

Someone apparently went into Joe Wurzelbacher's drivers' license information.

Who approved it? What were they looking for? This is a local report:

"Information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department.

It has not been determined who checked on Wurzelbacher, or why.

Direct access to driver's license and vehicle registration information from BMV computers is restricted to legitimate law enforcement and government business." (The Columbus Dispatch)

Again, what motivated this? Who approved it?

Ed Morrissey has a good post about this:

"The accounts used to access the information at the BMV and tax records all came from government agencies.

This information is only supposed to be accessed for legitimate investigations, not just for curiosity, and certainly not for political purposes.

Who in these government offices would have wanted to investigate Wurzelbacher, and for what legitimate reason — within hours of a presidential debate in which he played a significant part?"

We don't have an answer. Yet, Joe Wurzelbacher deserves an explanation.

P.S. Where is the ACLU?

Sowell nailed it!

Thomas Sowell was born in 1930. His education is impressive:

Ph.D. in Economics, University of Chicago, 1968

A.M. in Economics, Columbia University, 1959

A.B. in Economics, magna cum laude, Harvard College, 1958

As I wrote last year, every American should read Thomas Sowell. His columns challenge the welfare state and the liberals.

Today, Sowell posted a great one called Obama Con:

"Some people who see the fraud in what Obama is saying are amazed that others do not.

But Obama knows what con men have long known, that their job is not to convince skeptics but to enable the gullible to continue to believe what they want to believe.

He does that very well."

In this post, Sowell goes through each and everyone of Obama's associations.

Obama is not just a man of the left. That's OK.

He is a man from the extreme left, the kind of man who has to conceal his true identity in order to win.

P.S. Let's vote McCain so that we don't have to learn who Obama really is!

Obama isn't tough enough to be president

In a previous post, I spoke about entitlements. Today, I will talk about what I have seen about Obama's leadership style.

We need a president who will stand up, take a position and the heck with opinion polls.

Obama is not such a man. I'm sorry but he is not.

Can you find any such characteristic in his resume or references:

"To govern is to choose.

And sometimes the choices are tough ones.

When has Barack Obama chosen to take a stand?

When he got along to get along with the Chicago machine?

When he sat for 20 years in the pews of an ugly neo-segregationist race-baiting grievance-monger?

When he voted to deny the surviving "fetuses" of botched abortions medical treatment?

When in his short time in national politics he racked up the most liberal – i.e., the most doctrinaire, the most orthodox, the most reflex – voting record in the Senate?

Or when, on those many occasions the questions got complex and required a choice, he dodged it and voted merely "present"? (Steyn)

So far, Obama has had a rather free ride.

Friendly media.

Good timing against Hillary Clinton in the primaries.

Unbelievable timing with the mortgage meltdown.

It will be different once the campaign is over.

Why? He will have to govern, or make choices.

Thomas Sowell has a good post on Obama:

"Yet many today seem to assume that if things are bad, "change" will make them better.

Specifics don't interest them nearly as much as inspiring rhetoric and a confident style."

Style may get him elected. Specifics will matter once we go from the campaign to sitting in the Oval Office.

Based on what I've seen, Obama is a good speaker, a man of incredible timing but not much of a leader.

I have not seen any examples of Obama standing up to anybody.

Why does that matter? Obama will be tested by Pelosi and Reid.

Vote McCain. At least, McCain has shown leadership skills during his amazing career.

Obama: No "hope and change" for the unborn!

On abortion, Obama is the most radical presidential candidate ever. He supports abortion and partial birth abortion.

It's time for Catholics to vote their conscience. We can not support a candidate who supports the taking of human life.

Today, Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia, published a letter that goes to the heart of abortion:

"The transcending issue of our day is the intentional destruction of innocent human life, as in abortion.

We wish with all our hearts that no candidate and no party were advocating this heinous act against the human person.

However, since it is a transcending issue, and even supported in its most extreme and horrific forms, we must proclaim time and time again that no intrinsic evil can ever be supported in any way, most especially when it concerns the gravest of all intrinsic evils: the taking of an innocent life.

We bishops of Pennsylvania quoted from the late Pope John Paul II’s Post Synodal Exhortation on the Vocation and Mission of the Lay Faithful and I quote him again here:

“The inviolability of the person which is a reflection of the absolute inviolability of God, finds its primary and fundamental expression in the inviolability of human life.

Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights — for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture — is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination” (Christifideles Laici, 38)."

"Not only do Barack Obama's positions on human life issues lie in absolute contradiction with Pope Benedict XVI, his positions are the most radical of any post-Roe candidate ever to seek the Presidency.

Far more radical than Bill Clinton, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton."

In this election, the choice is clear.

On Tuesday, November 4th, you will choose who appoints the next Justice in the Supreme Court.

Roe v. Wade, the outrageous decision from 1973, is in the balance. In other words, we will get closer to overturning Roe v Wade or guarantee it for another generation.

John McCain will appoint outstanding justices like Sam Alito and John Roberts.

Barack Obama will only appoint justices who support Roe v Wade.

Vote your conscience. Abortion has already taken 40 million lives since 1973. It must stop. It will stop with a couple of more judicial appointments.

The Beatles: 3 of my favorites!

How do you pick your favorite Beatles' songs? Let me try these three, although I have to confess that it was not easy.

These songs are not in any particular order. This is not a countdown, from 3 to 1.

My first choice is "Day Tripper". I love the guitar rift and the way that John and Paul sing this song:

video

"GOT A GOOD REASON
FOR TAKING THE EASY WAY OUT
GOT A GOOD REASON
FOR TAKING THE EASY WAY OUT NOW

SHE WAS A DAY TRIPPER
IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO FIND OUT
AND I FOUND OUT

SHE´S A BIG TEASER
SHE TOOK ME HALF THE WAY THERE
SHE´S A BIG TEASER
SHE TOOK ME HALF THE WAY THERE NOW

SHE WAS A DAY TRIPPER!...
TRIED TO PLEASE HER
SHE ONLY PLAYED ONE NIGHT STANDS
TRIED TO PLEASE HER
SHE ONLY PLAYED ONE NIGHT STANDS NOW

SHE WAS A DAY TRIPPER!
SUNDAY DRIVER YEAH
IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO FIND OUT
AND I FOUND OUT

DAY TRIPPER
DAY TRIPPER YEAH"

My second selection is "Paperback Writer". This song was a single released between the Rubber Soul and Revolver LPs. It sounds like a better fit for Revolver because of the heavy electric guitar. Rubber Soul was more melodic.

video

"Paperback writer Writer, writer

Please, sir or madam, can you read my book?

It took me years to write, will you take a look?

It's based on a novel by a man named Lear

And I need a job, so I want to be a paperback writer,

Paperback writer!

It's a dirty story of a dirty man

And his clinging wife doesn't understand

His son is working for the daily mail

It's a steady job, but he wants to be a paperback writer,

Paperback writer!

Paperback writer Writer, writer

It's a thousand pages, give or take a few

I'll be writing more in a week or two

I can make it longer if you like the style

I can change it 'round, but I want to be a paperback writer,

Paperback writer!

If you really like it, you can have the right

You can make a million for you overnight

If you must return it, you can send here

But I need a break, and I want to be a paperback writer,

Paperback writer! Paperback writer

Writer, writer"

My third selection is "Hello Goodbye", a very catchy tune released between Sgt. Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour. I love this video, specially since they weren't called videos back then. These were promo films shown on US TV, such as The Ed Sullivan Show:

video

"You say yes, I say no,

you say stop, and I say go, go, go

Oh no - you say goodbye, and I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

I say high, you say low, you say why, and I say I dont know - oh

Oh no - you say goodbye, and I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

Why, why, why, why, why do you say goodbye, goodbye - wow

Oh no - you say goodbye, and I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

You say yes, I say no, you say stop, and I say go, go, go

Oh no - you say goodbye, and I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello

Hello, hello - I dont know why you say goodbye I say hello - hello

Hey-la, he-be hello"

In a future post, I will recall some of my favorite ballads.

O'Reilly meets Ayers (in case you missed it)

Normally, I don't like it when TV cameras show up at some one's home. However, there are exceptions and O'Reilly does it well:

1) How about a public servant who refuses to answer questions about their public service? How about the opportunistic DA in North Carolina who indicted those three young men for "allegedly" raping some disturbed young woman? We learned later that the whole story was a hoax. The NC Attorney General has taken legal action against the DA.

Shouldn't someone like that answer a few questions?

2) What about Bill Ayers? Years ago, Ayers tried to kill police officers, a judge and his family and others.

Sorry, Bill Ayers needs to explain a lot of things. So far, all he has done is to say that he didn't do enough.

By the way, Ayers is free because of legal technicalities during his trial. Ayers should be sitting in a federal prison, along with his terrorist wife.

These are not nice people. Why in the world was Barack Obama doing with them anyway?

As I have written before, I don't hold BO responsible for what Ayers did. However, I do hold Obama responsible for friends like Ayers, specially using the Ayers' home to launch his state senate campaign years ago.

O'Reilly was right for confronting Ayers. Let's hope that Obama comes clean with this association. We are learning more and more that this was a lot more than just a fellow down the street.

Finally, isn't it ironic that the despicable Ayers called the police to protect his property and to drive the O'Reilly producer away?

Ayers now believes in the police. He tells the producer to get off his "private property" after bashing capitalism all of these years. Wonder what the police really think of this jerk?

Wonder what the Murtaugh family thinks of this jerk?

How much do we really know about Obama?

It's really amazing. Even Democrats don't know who Obama is. Just talk to them!

Who is this fellow Obama? Rich Lowry has a good post on who he is or is not:

"When has Obama stood up to liberals and fought for a principled centrism?

Never."

BO's resume is vague across the board.

He claims to be a "uniter" but wants to repeal The Defense of Marriage Act.

He wants to unite the country by eliminating all state restrictions to abortion.

Good luck Obama! Good luck uniting the country with those tactics!

Unfortunately, the media has not taken time to investigate or study BO. Instead, they've allowed him to get away with massive generalities, policy shifts and even contradictory statements regarding Iraq.

At some point, we will learn who BO is. My guess is that no one, including the "yes we can screamers" will be very happy with him.

More McCain endorsements!

"In these tough times, John McCain is the right man for America."

"The Republican presidential candidate has the character, pragmatism and independence necessary to lead a united America past our poisonous partisan divisions and into a more civil and productive future."

"For more than 40 years, in war and peace, John McCain has exhibited fierce integrity, principled independence and awe-inspiring courage as he has put his country first.

Between two extraordinary candidates, he is the better qualified.

So it is that The State proudly endorses John McCain for president of the United States."

We will continue to monitor endorsements.

A McCain endorsement from Krauthammer

Over the next 10 days, we will see a lot of presidential endorsements.

"The case for McCain is straightforward.

The financial crisis has made us forget, or just blindly deny, how dangerous the world out there is.

We have a generations-long struggle with Islamic jihadism.

An apocalyptic soon-to-be-nuclear Iran.

A nuclear-armed Pakistan in danger of fragmentation.

A rising Russia pushing the limits of revanchism.

Plus the sure-to-come Falklands-like surprise popping out of nowhere.

Who do you want answering that phone at 3 a.m.?

A man who's been cramming on these issues for the last year, who's never had to make an executive decision affecting so much as a city, let alone the world?

A foreign policy novice instinctively inclined to the flabbiest, most vaporous multilateralism (e.g., the Berlin Wall came down because of "a world that stands as one"), and who refers to the most deliberate act of war since Pearl Harbor as "the tragedy of 9/11," a term more appropriate for a bus accident?"

Right on. We will regret that no one is talking about foreign policy. From FDR to GW Bush, every presidency has been consumed with foreign policy issues.

Again, who is more prepared for those foreign policy issues, known and unknown?

The answer is John McCain not "hope and change".

video

Robin Hood Obama

You can file this picture in the humor section. Even Erroll Flynn didn't look this good in his old Robin Hood movie. Unfortunately, there is nothing funny about a charlatan promising tax cuts for 95% of the population.

After all, how can you cut taxes for people who don't pay taxes? At least, the Bush tax cuts went to those who paid taxes.

Where is Robin Hood Obama going to find all of this money?

First, he will tax the rich. Second, he will tax the rest of us. Third, he will wreck the US economy. Fourth, the US will look like France and Germany, i.e. the welfare state with high unemployment!

Alan Reynolds is a senior fellow with the Cato Institute. This is what he wrote today:

"Mr. Obama has offered no clue as to how he intends to pay for his health-insurance plans, or doubling foreign aid, or any of the other 175 programs he's promised to expand.

Although he may hope to collect an even larger share of loot from the top of the heap, the harsh reality is that this Democrat's quest for hundreds of billions more revenue each year would have to reach deep into the pockets of the people much lower on the economic ladder.

Even then he'd come up short."

In the meantime, why isn't the media demanding an explanation of how Obama plans to pay for all of these promises? The media won't do it. We have to do it! Let's hope that McCain and our side keeps running these TV ads!

Real "doom and gloom" at The NY Times!

Thomas Lifson has been keeping an eye on The NY Times' financial detoriation. Frankly, it's not pretty:

"The death spiral accelerates, as NYTCo earnings fell by 51.4% in the third quarter.

As AT predicted would happen after it was raised, the company now recognizes it is unable to sustain its dividend."

Yes, you can blame this on changing habits. In other words, more and more people, specially younger people, are not reading newspapers. They are getting their news from the Internet or TV.

My guess is that there is a second problem. The newspaper has gone down hill. It used to be a serious liberal alternative to The Wall Street Journal.

Today, The NY Times is just a subsidiary of the Obama campaign and the voice of the party's left wing.

Two weeks ago, it ran a total hatchet job on Cindy McCain.

What Mrs. McCain running for? She is not a candidate. She is simply John McCain's wife. Do we now attack candidates by doing hatchet jobs on their spouses?

It's time for the adults to take over The NY Times. Otherwise, The NY Times will disappear along with other companies that can not survive financial reality. (Update: "Frankly, the Times has become far too predictable -- and so was the latest action by Standard and Poors rating agency, which cut the corporate debt of the New York Times company to "junk" status.")

Beware of so many crazy polls!

Check out The Drudge Report and you will see these two headlines:

Let me use a baseball analogy. The World Series will go 4 or 7 games! This election is going to be close or it will be a landslide. Pick your favorite poll!

Frankly, the polls are crazy. I don't know why. I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories. My guess is that different pollsters are using different criteria.

For example, one poll has Obama plus 10. Unfortunately, the sample is skewed to the Dems.

Another poll has Obama plus 14. What's wrong with that? No Democrat has been over 50% since Pres. Johnson in 1964.

Who is right? Your guess is as good as mine.

I think that Obama is 3-5 points ahead of McCain Also, Obama has not closed the sale with rural and suburban whites. In other words, Obama has the same problem that he had against Hillary Clinton.

P.S. For more fun, check out Are the Polls Accurate? by Michael Barone. You will see a lot of Barone on election night. Barone is FOX News' numbers specialist. He is fun to watch and very savvy about US elections.

Audio history: Our friend Bill Katz remembers the 1960 election!

The 1960 election was one of the most controversial in US history. It was Kennedy vs Nixon. It came down to 110,000 votes out of 76 million.

Everything changed when JFK was assassinated in Dallas. He became a legend and myth.

Today, Dems remember whatever they want to remember about Pres. Kennedy. What most of them forget is that JFK would not fit in today's party. In fact, it's very likely that JFK would have joined Joe Lieberman and walk out on the party's irresponsible national security agenda.

Bill Katz was a college student and a party volunteer on Election Night 1960. Today, he runs Urgent Agenda, one of my favorite websites.

This is an audio history. Listen here! You will enjoy it!

Brad Lidge is the difference!

Game 1 goes to the Phillies. I'm not counting the Rays out. Again, this series will go 7.

Nevertheless, game 1 reminded me of Earl Weaver's baseball master plan. Weaver won 4 AL pennants with the Orioles and had one of the best winning pct. in recent major league history.

This is how Earl won all of those games: Complete games and 3-run homers!

In game 1, the Phillies got a great start from the starting pitcher. They got a big hit from one of their hitters.

And Brad Lidge closed the game.

We remember Lidge because he pitched with Houston a couple of years ago. He was lights out whenever he came in. He saved 29, 42 and 32 games for the Astros in 2004-06!

Again, Lidge was lights out.

The Rays are still in the series. However, the Phillies' mission is to take a lead to the 8th or 9th inning.

If Philadelphia has a late lead then Lidge comes in and it's over!

Obama wants the US to look like Europe (and the high unemployment that comes with it)

Last week, I heard a radio report that France's unemployment rate has dropped to 8%.

For comparison, our unemployment rate is 6.1%!

It was 4.4% just a couple of years ago!

Why does the US have unemployment rates between 4 and 5%?

Why does France, and much of Western Europe, have rates of 8 to 12%?

The answer is the welfare state, high taxes, idiotic labor laws and a business climate that encourages companies to move elsewhere.

What sensible person wants to open a company in France? Why not travel to Ireland or Poland and take advantage of lower taxes and a more business friendly attitude. (Pres. Sarkozy is trying to change things but socialism is a terrible addiction. It's hard to get people to work for a living after they've grown accustomed to the public check!)

Obama is a disciple of the Western European welfare state. He wants to bring some of it, although he is not honest enough to call it socialism or tell us how much it will cost.

If you love France's stagnant economy, vote Obama.

If you love the US's vitality and dynamism, vote McCain.

It's as simple as that!

P.S. Peter Ferrara is director of entitlement and budget policy for the Institute for Policy Innovation, and general counsel of the American Civil Rights Union. He formerly served in President Reagan’s White Office of Policy Development, and as associate deputy attorney general of the United States under the first President Bush. He just wrote Obama’s New Tax Welfare:

"Barack Obama says he plans to cut taxes for 95 percent of American workers.

That sounds terrific, but there are three problems.

One, it is meant to draw attention from the real core of the Obama tax plan: proposed increases in every major federal tax.

Two, the structure of the cuts will create perverse incentives.

And three, many of the people receiving “tax cuts” don’t pay taxes to begin with, meaning they’ll be in effect getting welfare."

Obama's unusual friend!

First, it was Rev. Wright.

BO went to his church for 20 years but did not remember anything that the Rev said. What kind of church member is that? How honest is BO?

Second, BO told us that Ayers was just a neighbor down the street, i.e. a constituent!

Again, no one is tying BO to what Ayers did years ago.

However, we don't understand how BO developed a relationship with such a character.

After all, what would the liberal media be saying if McCain ran around with an unrepentant abortion clinic bomber?

Would they accept the explanation that he was a fellow down the street?

I cut BO a little slack about Ayers when the story came out months ago.

I cut him slack because we can't be responsible for everything that our neighbors do.

However, BO and Ayers were more than just a couple of people who lived on the same street.

They were very close friends. They worked on each other's books. They often shared the podium to talk about left wing issues. BO and Ayers came to like each other and work on several education issues in Chicago.

How did BO get away with such a relationship? How can an elected state rep get away with launching his campaign in an unrepentant terrorist's home? Why weren't there any political costs?

First, BO represented one of the most left wing districts in Illinois. It's the kind of district where they celebrate Che's and Ho Chi Minh's birthday parties. It's one of a handful of districts where a fellow like Ayers could live without consequences. (Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco may be the other one!)

Second, and more important, BO has not been honest. Also, it does not help that we keep finding out just how radical, and unrepentant, Ayers is!

Ayers has never said "I'm sorry"! On the contrary, he regrets that they didn't do more. In other words, Ayers regrets that they didn't kill more policemen and judges.

Ayers is bad person. Obama needs to come clean and tell us about this relationship.

At the very least, Obama should call on Ayers to apologize for what he did years ago.

It does not help to hear Ayers contine to sound like a terrorist as late as 2002.

Where is the media? Would the media be this silent if McCain, or Palin, had such a relationship with an unrepentant abortion clinic bomber?

Congratulations to Josh Hamilton!

In a couple of weeks, MLB will announce the MVP awards. We hope that Josh Hamilton captures the award.

Hamilton's numbers were great: .304 average, 98 runs scored, 32 home runs and 130 RBIs!

His comeback from adversity was even better.

He deserves it!

Today, Hamilton got a big one:

"Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton has been named the American League Outstanding Player in voting by his fellow players, the Players Association announced on Tuesday."

Hamilton has been talking to kids about his experiences. He is also promoting a book.

The Phillies in 7!

This is going to be the best World Series in years. It has the potential to be as great as the 1991 Twins-Braves classic. In '91, the Twins and Braves fought like a couple of heavyweights. The Twins won game 7 in 10 innings.

The Phillies and the Rays represent the new generation of baseball:

"Welcome to the u30ws -- a World Series for the next generation.

Many of the stars of this year's Fall Classic can proudly proclaim, "I Love the 80's," because that's the decade in which they were born.

This is a championship fight that truly caters to the under-30 crowd. " (MLB)

The Rays have some of the best young talent around. Most of them are under 25. The Phillies are a little older but still on the young side of 30.

The Phillies will start Cole Hamels, a young lefthander with great stuff. The Rays' lineup includes Carl Crawford, BJ Upton and Evan Longoria.

Young talent vs young talent.

My pick is The Phillies in 7. Why? I think that closer Brad Lidge will be the tie breaker.

Watch this one. It will be one of the best!

Lots of early voting in Texas!

On Monday, I tried voting at lunch time but the lines were too long. Later, I read this:

"Dallas County has broken the record for the most votes cast on the first day of early voting.

Shortly before 4 p.m., 28,217 votes had been recorded at early voting sites.

The total was expected to pass 30,000 by 5 p.m."

On Tuesday, I went early (7:30 am) and still found a line. I got to vote after the polls opened at 8am.

By the way, there are some very interesting local races. The McCain-Obama campaign is the main attraction but there are emotionally charged votes over alcohol sales in Irving and other areas.

I have not voted on election day since 1988. Convenience matters to me. Based on the long lines, it looks like a lot of people agree with me!

The bad news is that "early voting" does create the potential for ACORN type activities. The good news is that Texas requires a photo ID.

P.S. Last, but not least, I did not see Mickey Mouse voting for Obama today. He probably doesn't have a driver's license or photo ID. My guess is that Mickey will head to Ohio where ACORN will drive him to vote!

We will regret another "domestic election"!

We saw this movie in 1976 and 1992.

It's called the "domestic election" movie.

It goes like this:

1) Everything about the US economy is horrible and terrible! You must change because any change is better than we have;

2) The Republicans don't care about "little people" because they just want to project American power and cut taxes for the rich; and,

3) The world hates the US. Therefore , we must vote Dem to restore our image abroad. After all, only a Dem can get the world to like us again! I guess that it's all about being loved for the Dems!

Go back to 1976 and 1992. It was the message back then!

The Dems have nothing new to offer. It's the same old worn out class warfare!

Biden is right. Our new president is usually tested, sometimes on purpose or sometimes the stuff just comes out of nowhere.

I love this from Captain Pete Hegseth, who served in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division from 2005 to 2006, is chairman of Vets for Freedom:

"Why didn’t Biden suggest the same would hold true for a McCain administration?

The answer is obvious, and hugely important.Biden knows — as should voters — that our enemies see Barack Obama as a more accommodating, and weaker, foe.

Unfriendly regimes and networks — from oil-rich dictators to radical Islamists — will seek to exploit a tepid American foreign policy.

Biden knows Obama’s “peace through engagement” policy will invite attacks, not deter them."

Again, it's hard to know what motivated Biden to make a statement like this. Nevertheless, it's the best case against Obama. In fact, it's such a strong case that we suspect that Biden has flipped to our side!

Obama and "taxes on the rich"

(The chart is from The Rush Limbaugh website.)

What is the most negative ad of 2008?

It's the Obama ad that Bush and McCain cut taxes for the rich.

It's awful. It's false! Are you listening Sec. Powell?

Again, this is why "Joe the Plumber" has turned into McCain's guardian angel.

Joe has put a real face on small businesses, the source of our growth and employment.

Dick Morris explains:

"In fact, the rich are paying vastly more in taxes than they ever have. According to the excellent book "Reality Check" by Dennis Keegan and David West, the percentage of income tax revenues paid by the top 1 percent of the population has almost doubled in the past 20 years.

Now they pay 40 percent of all income tax revenues. (The bottom half in income pays less than 3 percent.)

Despite the lower rates, the rich are paying more and more in taxes because they are earning more and more.

In the past eight years, real, after-inflation income growth for the top 10 percent of the population has been more than 45 percent."

Obama is all about distribution of income. McCain is repeating it over and over! Why do I think that Joe's message is working? The Dems are freaking out over Joe!

video

What exactly did Joe Biden mean?

Joe Biden has a reputation for "gaffes". However, Biden's latest "gaffe" is incredible. This is what Biden said:

"ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., on Sunday guaranteed that if elected, Sen. Barack Obama., D-Ill., will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions."

What does this mean? Who knows? Shouldn't someone ask Biden?

My guess is that Joe Biden is simply stating the obvious.

Our enemies don't know who Barack Obama is. On the other hand, there is no need to test McCain. Our enemies know exaclty how McCain will react.

Wonder how Biden is explaining this to the Obama people?

Are you kidding me, Sec. Powell?

Before I share my comments on Sec. Powell's endorsement, let me make this perfectly clear, as former Pres. Nixon used to say:

I love Sec. Powell.

He is an American hero.

He could have been the first black president in 1996 or 2000.

I would have been very proud to vote for him.

So what's happened to a nice man like Powell? I don't know and I don't like it.

Frankly, I heard about Powell endorsing Obama months ago. Perhaps, Powell had second thoughts after Obama's disastrous performance following the Russian invasion of Georgia.

Which Barrack Obama is former Sec. Powell endorsing?

Is it the one who opposed the Iraq War as a very liberal state senator representing a very liberal Chicago district? What profile of courage is it to tell left wing constituents like Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers what they want to hear?

More importantly, is it the one who opposed the surge? Didn't Obama display incredibly bad judgement on the surge? How can Powell say that Gen Petraeus has done a great job? How can he support Obama, the same man who didn't want to give Gen Petraeus a chance to finish the job?

Is it the one who has been so wrong on Al Qaeda? Obama does not understand the war on terror, except when he wants to invade Pakistan or send troops to Afghanistan. Obama needs to read world history and learn something about how the British and Soviets got bogged down in an Afghan land war.

Afghanistan is a long term project. It will take a generation of US and international support, primarily economic.

Like a lot of liberals, Obama wants to sound tough by saying that he will go after Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Let me say it again: Obama and the Dems do not have the stomach to fight the kind of war that they are talking about. The liberal anti-war Dems will turn on Obama as soon as Afghanistan starts costing lives and money.

The Power Line has some great news about the war that we are winning:

"Yesterday's Washington Post reported that on September 10, four of al Qaeda's five principal web sites went dark. They have been disabled ever since.

The result has been a crippling of al Qaeda's ability to communicate with, and direct the activities of, its members and adherents around the world.

Qaeda's already-low ability to carry out attacks in the West has been degraded even further.

Barack Obama likes to say that al Qaeda is stronger than at any time since before September 11, but that is silly.

In fact, the Bush administration's devastation of al Qaeda's organization has been one of its most notable successes, even if it is one that voters are in no mood to acknowledge."

Why did this happen? Because Pres. Bush went after Al Qaeda everywhere, including Iraq!

It happened because Pres. Bush listened to Sec. Powell rather than a state senator named Barrack Obama!

Is Powell endorsing the candidate who speaks about "hope and change" without specifics?

Is Powell caught up in the "personality cult" and all of the garbage about a transformational figure?

Does Sec. Powell fall for all of the "man of the world" nonsense? (Obama vows to 'change the world'... )

Our friend Bill Katz of "Urgent Agenda" got it right:

"We seem to be creating a lot of halos these days, with very little substance underneath."

What about all of that negative campaigning that upsets Powell?

He is right. Our politics is too negative. Unfortunately, we don't hear any outrage when Obama's people engage in negative politics, too.

First, of all it was the Dems who tried to push Obama as a Muslim. Where did The Drudge Report get that photo of Obama?

Second, it was Obama who played the race card with his "dollar bill" comments. Did Powell say anything about Obama's race cards?

Third, it was Obama who refused to talk about his relationship with Bill Ayers. A few months ago, he was a friend down the neighborhood. Now, we know that it was a lot closer than that.

On Ayers, Rev. Wright, Rezko, the issue is Obama's credibility not his associations. Obama has never come clean about these associations. Let's hope that Rezko doesn't come back to haunt Obama's presidency.

Again, which Obama is Powell endorsing?

Frankly, I find Sec. Powell's comments quite disappointing.

I'm tired of this narrative that we are "negative".

Again, who is outspending McCain on negative ads? Have you seen the one running during the baseball playoffs that McCain supported tax cuts for the rich?

Will Sec. Powell's endorsement help? Not much. It may turn a vote here and there but most Americans understand that McCain owns foreign policy.

McCain has been endorsed by Sec. Kissinger, Sec. Shultz, Sec. Baker and Sen Haig. (I may have missed another one!)

Finally, did I tell you that the RCP average is now 5 points? The trend is that McCain is gaining and Obama dropping.

We will be happy to welcome Sec. Powell back to our side. We will forgive and welcome him back to the party of Lincoln where he belongs!

Congratulations to the Rays, AL champs!

Here is the bad news: The Rays had 10 losing seasons in a row.

Here is the good news: The Rays have drafted the top young talent in baseball.

Take a look at the Rays' young team. It is one young star after another plus a couple of veterans to keep the kids under control.

Longoria, Crawford, Upton, the kid Price who closed the pennant clincher.

The Rays are the best thing that has happened to baseball in years. They are a team built around scouting and player development. They didn't buy a pennant. The developed it with very athletic young men.

Before free agency got out of control in the 1990s, great teams were built by serious owners, good managers, a great scouting staff and young players.

Congratulations to everyone in the Tampa Bay organization. Let's salute Joe Maddon for believing in his young stars when everyone was ready to write them off!

P.S. Can they stand up to Phillies? Absolutely. In fact, the Phillies and Rays are very similar teams. The Phillies are a little older but they were built from within!

The Cowboys were awful today!

This is the worst in-season defeat since the Cowboys lost to the 1-14 Lions to finish the 2006-07 season!

At least, that defeat did not matter. The Cowboys were headed for the playoffs and did not bring their hearts to Detroit for a meaningless game.

Today was different. This one mattered a lot: Rams 34, Cowboys 7: Dallas has a full-fledged disaster on its hands

First, Tony Romo was hurt. He broke his finger and did not play. Unfortunately, everybody else played like they had broken hands, fingers, brains and old bodies.

It stinks. What else can I say?

I couldn't watch it after the third quarter.

It got so bad that I went to the computer, turned on the radio and listened to Brad Sham describe this miserable performance.

Don't blame it on back up QB Brad Johnson.

It's true that Brad has not played much for a couple of years. He was a great quarterback 5-7 years ago. Johnson is perfect as Romo's back up. He is not very good at starting NFL games anymore.

To be fair, the Cowboys did not hire Johnson to start games! Again, don't blame this disaster on a great veteran like Johnson.

Where was the rest of the team? Why didn't the offense support QB Johnson and get the ball over the goal line? How in the world did the Cowboys' defense give up 34 points against the Rams?

The Rams are one of the worst teams in the NFL. How can the Cowboys lose to St. Louis and Arizona last week?

The Cowboys had no business losing this game.

Jerry Jones should lock the plane and force everyone to walk home or rent their own transportation back to Dallas.

The Cowboys will be topic # 1 in the local sports radio. It won't be pretty. It shouldn't be!

A rare George Harrison lead vocal from the early days!

George Harrison joined The Beatles because John & Paul needed a strong lead guitarist.

In the early days, George was always in the background. He got the nickname of the Quiet Beatle.

He sang background vocals. Once in a while, George sang "lead".

One of those examples was "Devil in her heart", a tune made popular by US groups.

In the US, the song was released on "Second album", an LP thrown together from early songs recorded in the UK in 1963.

I love the way that John & Paul back up George's vocals. Also, George does a wonderful job on the guitar.

"She's got the devil in her heart
But her eyes they tantalize

She's gonna tear your heart apart
oh her lips they really thrill me

I'll take my chances for romance is
So important to me
She'll never hurt me
she won't desert me
she's an angel sent to me

She's got the devil in her heart no,
this I can't believe

She's gonna tear your heart apart no,
no nay will she deceive

I can't believe that she'll ever ever go
Not when she hugs
and says she loves me so

She'll never hurt me
she won't desert me
listen can't you see

She's got the devil in her heart oh, no, no, no,
this I can't believe

She's gonna tear your heart apart no no
nay will she deceive

Don't take chances if your romance is
So important to you

She'll never hurt me
She won't desert me
she's an angel sent to me

She's got the devil in her heart oh, no, no, no,
no this I can't believe
She's gonna tear your heart apart no,

She's got the devil in her heart

She's got the devil in her heart
No she's an angel sent to me "

The Bee Gees: I have not heard this one in a long time

Here is another one from the old box of LPs and 45s.

"Please read me" was from The Bee Gees' first US LP. It was a quick song.

It was also an early indication of those incredible vocal harmonies that we came to love so much:

"Many years ago I was a simple man
A simple man, no worries me;
I never lied
Please read me.

Not much conversation ever came from me,
I never saw reality;
I never tried.
Please read me. Ah....

Maybe Ive been lying on your couch too long
Ill stay if you can see me through,
explain why
Please read me.
please read me.
please read me."

The Beatles: I have not heard this one in a long time

The Beatles recorded many songs. Some of them are on the radio often. Some you hear in elevators. Some are now ring tones. Some have also disappeared into our closet of old LPs and 45s.

A few days ago, I came across my old "Eight days a week" single. I looked on the B-side and rediscovered "I don't want to spoil the party".

This song was also included in The Beatles VI, another US LP. I don't know whether it was released in any UK LPs.

It's a simple song. It's John and Paul doing the vocals:

"I don't want to spoil the party so I'll go,
I would hate my disappointment to show,
There's nothing for me here so I will disappear,
If she turns up while I'm gone please let me know.

I've had a drink or two and I don't care,
There's no fun in what I do if she's not there,
I wonder what went wrong
I've waited far too long,
I think I'll take a walk and look for her.

Though tonight she's made me sad,
I still love her,
If I find her I'll be glad,
I still love her.

I don't want to spoil the party so I'll go,
I would hate my disappointment to show,
There's nothing for me here so I will disappear,
If she turns up while I'm gone please let me know.

Though tonight she's made me sad,
I still love her,
If I find her I'll be glad,
I still love her.

I've had a drink or two and I don't care,
There's no fun in what I do if she's not there,
I wonder what went wrong I've waited far too long,
I think I'll take a walk and look for her."

What's the point of a NY Times' front page hatchet job on Cindy McCain?

In previous posts, we have written about The NY Times' business decline. The newspaper is losing readers and advertisers are paying attention.

This weekend, The NY Times is running a front page hatchet job on Mrs. McCain.

What's wrong with that?

First, you should leave wives and family out of it.

Second, has The NY Times ever done a critical piece on Michelle Obama?

Third, the story is a hatchet job. See Kimberly Kweder:

"The McCain campaign released a statement that reprimands the "series of vicious attacks" on McCain's wife. "...

Though Mrs. McCain’s battle with drug addiction and even her miscarriages are again reported, the paper entirely ignores a life devoted to family and charity work in the most impoverished and violent corners of the world -- except when a detail can be quibbled with so as to imply some kind of deceit," read a statement from McCain-Palin spokesman Michael Goldfarb.

The campaign team has obtained a copy of an e-mail sent by the reporter and has accused her of 'duping' the unsuspecting minor by "soliciting ‘advice’ on how best to approach the story ..."

This is sad. Cindy McCain has been heavily involved in charity work. She adopted a little girl from Mother Theresa's home.

At some point, The NY Times needs to come clean and tell us that it is an extension of the Obama campaign. I like what Ed Morrissey wrote about this:

"The New York Times long ago transformed itself into an advocacy organization for Barack Obama.

Trolling for dirt on Facebook among teenagers for hit pieces on a candidate’s spouse hits a new low.

Does the National Enquirer even do that?"

Again, keep wives and kids out of political crossfire.

Sorry to hear about Levi Stubbs

In the heyday of Top 40 radio, the DJ's featured something called "the battle of the bands".

It was one group against another, say The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones.

I always had real trouble picking a favorite when it was The Temptations vs The Four Tops. I loved both their music so much.

I just read this:

"Levi Stubbs, the gravelly-voiced, imploring lead singer of the Motown group the Four Tops, who stood out in 1960s pop classics like “Reach Out, I’ll Be There,” and “Bernadette,” died on Friday at his home here.

He was 72."

According to the news reports, Levi Stubbs had been ill for some time. Frankly, I had not seen anything new from The Four Tops in quite a few years.

The group's story is amazing:

"From 1964-1967, the Four Tops recorded some of the Holland-Dozier-Holland team's greatest compositions, including "Reach Out, I'll Be There," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)," "Standing in the Shadows of Love," "Bernadette," and "Baby I Need Your Loving."

It's hard to pick a favorite from The Four Tops. So let me try "Ask the lonely", one of their smaller hits but still a great song:

"Just ask the lonely
When you feel that you can make it alone
Remember no one is big enough to go it alone
Just ask the lonely

They know the hurt and pain
Of losing a love you can never regain (Just ask the lonely)
Just ask the lonely

The young and foolish let Their love sway
and run away
How buckle and sure that fate
Will bring another love their way

But ask the lonely

How how badly a heart will burn
I want you to know that
will never return (Just ask the lonely)

Just ask the lonely They will tell you
They'll tell you a story of sadness
A story too hard to believe
And tell you the loneliest one is me (Just ask the lonely)

Just ask the lonely
Ask me I am the loneliest one, you'll see."

The polls are closing! Don't they always do?

Have you noticed the polls in the last couple of days? The polls are closing! I guess that the Obama landslide will have to wait until another election.

The Rasmussen Tracking is Obama plus 4.

The Reuters/C-Span/Zogby Tracking is Obama plus 4, too.

The Gallup Tracking (Traditional)* is Obama plus 2, or a dead heat.

The GW/Battleground Tracking is Obama plus 4, too.

The IBD/TIPP Tracking is Obama plus 5.

The point is that this is a very close election again. (Some Surveys Indicate Tighter Presidential Race)

Landslide? I don't see one. What I see is a close election. Also, there are lots of undecided voters. Who knows where they will end up?

The angry left goes after Joe the plumber!

Joe the plumber made one big mistake. He had the audacity to expose Obama's socialist soul.

Today, Joe is under siege from a media in the tank for Obama. How else do you explain all of this scrutiny on Joe? What did this guy do to deserve so much attention?

We see two things here.

The first is dangerous. The media rallies around to protect Obama.

The second is very dangerous. Obama does not like to be criticized. His staff will shut down dissent quickly. Just ask Stanley Kurtz!

Joe went to an Obama rally. He asked a simple question. Obama answered without the teleprompter.

Again, the real story is what Obama said. That's what we should be talking about! This is about Obama's startling admission that Obama "...wants to raise taxes so he can "spread the wealth around." (NY Post)

Leave Joe alone. Investigate Obama.

The media wants to know more about Joe than Obama, a man who could be president. Wouldn't it be nice if the media had been this curious about Obama and his associates?

It's Joe and "taxes" all the way to victory!

Barack Obama has a weakness. He can't speak freely. He can't be himself. Why? Because he always comes across as an elitist liberal.

Do you remember San Francisco and those who "cling" to their guns and religion? It was an snobbish remark about millions of Americans who live in small towns and rural areas. By the way, these people were the backbone of the Dem party that elected FDR, Truman, JFK and LBJ. Today, they are called Reagan Democrats, or Dems who vote Republican for president.

This week, Obama met Joe the Plumber, one of those small town guys who clings to his gun and religion. Joe is also a small businessman, the kind of man who appreciates our free market economy. Joe wants an opportunity. Joe does not want a free lunch! Joe wants Obama and his government ideas to get out of the way so that he can fix pipes and take care of his family.

Joe inquired about taxes. Obama spoke from the heart. In other words, Obama confirmed that he is really a socialist at heart.

In simple words, Obama wants to spread the wealth around by taking from successful Joe and giving it to someone else.

This is the kind of stuff that sounds reasonable in Bill Ayers' living room. It does not sit well with for people like Joe and millions of others who still believe in our free market system. Once again, Obama forgot that he is running for president of the US not another European welfare state!

"A while back I chatted with a University of Chicago professor who was a frequent lunch companion of Obama's.

This professor said that Obama was as close to a full-out Marxist as anyone who has ever run for president of the United States.

Now, I tend to quickly dismiss that kind of talk as way over the top.

My working assumption is that Obama is firmly within the mainstream of Democratic politics.

But if he is as free with that sort of redistributive philosophy in private as he was on the campaign trail this week, I have no doubt that U of C professor really does figure him as a radical.

And after last night's debate, a few more Americans might think that way, too.

McCain's best line:

"Now, of all times in America, we need to cut people's taxes. We need to encourage business, create jobs, not spread the wealth around."

Pundits and bloggers have been waiting for that one moment, the so called game changer.

It did not happen in the debate. It did happen when Joe met Obama.

Dick Morris calls on Obama to go "taxes, taxes and taxes".

For the next 19 days, McCain has a chance to turn this election into a liberal vs conservative contest. This is exactly the kind of election that Nixon, Reagan, Bush and Bush won. The Dems can not win these elections because of their socialist core.

Keep an eye on Joe the Plumber. He may be McCain's guardian angel!

Based on his latest ad and campaign rhetoric, McCain is off and running on the "taxes" theme.

Who predicted the Phillies? Not me!

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies, NL champs!

OK. I didn't see it.

Frankly, I didn't see the Giants beating the Cowboys, Packers and Patriots either.

During my time in Baltimore, we used to get the Phillies on the radio and TV from York, PA.

It was my opportunity to stay in touch with NL baseball. My brother, dad and I even took a trip to Philadelphia to catch a game with the Expos.

The Phillies were also our first son's T-Ball team. I was one of the "dad coaches". There is nothing like 6 year old boys playing T-Ball.

The 2008 Phillies have one of the best lineups in baseball: Howard, Utley, Rollins, Victorino and that amazing closer, Brad Lidge.

Harry Kalas has been the radio/TV voice of the Phillies since 1971. You can also hear on some NFL films.

Kalas is a wonderful sports announcer! He has watched a lot of baseball in Philadelphia.

It was great to hear him make the call of the last out against LA:

Obama, ACORN and more problems in Ohio!

Today, we learned:

"Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner estimated that an initial review found that about 200,000 newly registered voters reported information that did not match motor-vehicle or Social Security records, Brunner spokesman Kevin Kidder said.

Some discrepancies could be as simple as a misspelling, while others could be more significant."

This is Ohio! Pres. Bush won Ohio by a little bit less than 200,000!

I'm sorry but this is not a case of some idiot trying to register Mickey Mouse.

This smells bad! We need an investigation of what is happening in Ohio, PA and elsewhere.

P.S. Dick Morris has a good post today on Acorn and Obama:

"As election officials discover ACORN frauds, the association will become more injurious to Obama, particularly when it is his own campaign that is funding many of the fraudulent activities."

Debate 3 and Joe the Plumber!

Before the debate, I read the latest column from Karl Rove: Obama Hasn't Closed the Sale!

Just ask Joe the Plumber! He is from Ohio and he is not sold on Obama's tax plan.

Many of us see ourselves in Joe. Why? He is small businessman. He is working hard. He is willing to work to make it.

We need more people like Joe.

Obama has not closed the sale.

Again, ask Joe from Ohio!

Nevertheless, it worries me that we are not talking foreign policy. Why? Because our next president is going to be spending more time on Iran than health insurance deductibles.

Here is the bottom line:

We don't have any money to create another domestic entitlement. How can we afford another entitlement when Medicare and Social Security are broken?

You can take Obama's health insurance proposal and sell it on E-Bay.

It will never pass.

We are not going to create another entitlement when Medicare and Social Security are a couple of sick patients headed to ER.

Our next president will spend more time on Iran's nuclear program, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia and even Mexico than the domestic agenda.

Again, just ask Clinton and Carter, the last two guys who ran on domestic issues!

On the mortgage crisis, no one has a quick fix. Obama doesn't. Obama was just as blindsided by this crisis as everybody else.

I have not heard anything from Obama different than what Pres. Bush or Sec. Paulson are saying.

Also, we should be talking about corruption between Congress and Fannie Mae. There is the scandal!

On issue after issue, Obama was all talking points.

Obama does not understand how wealth and prosperity are created. Obama is a disciple of Chicago's left wing precincts. Obama does not understand economics.

On public education, Obama agrees that change is needed but he is still afraid to stand up to the teachers' unions. You can't fix our inner city public schools without challenging the teachers' unions.

On free trade, I'm not clear where Obama stands! Obama's position on the Colombia Free Trade Agreement is simply absurd.

Also, how is Pres. Obama going to tell Pres. Calderon that Mexico does not meet environmental standards? Talk about an unilateralist foreign policy!

What about renegotiating NAFTA with Canada? Our northern neighbor is our best ally and source of oil. Canada is also one of the few NATO partners actually pulling their weight in Afghanistan!

Who is giving Obama advice on free trade? Is it Hugo Chavez?

On taxes, he continues to preach this utter nonsense about the rich and oil companies.

Thank God for our private oil companies. Is Obama calling for an American PEMEX? He should talk to the Mexicans about that!

"First, Obama’s tax-rate increases on income will fall heavily on small businesses, which create the majority of net new jobs.

Here’s why: According to Internal Revenue Service data, half of all business income is taxed at individual rather than corporate tax rates, and about two-thirds of all flow-through business income is earned by small-business owners with annual incomes exceeding $200,000.

The bottom line: Up to one-third of all business income is taxed at the two marginal rates Obama wants to raise."

Can McCain win this thing? Yes we can!

It's time to hit Obama on taxes, big government and school choice. Also, Obama's radical abortion position won't play well with conservative women.

McCain called BO "Senator Government". That's exactly right! BO is all about putting government at the heart of the economy and our lives. The WSJ agrees in today's editorial:

" Neither candidate is offering policies that meet the serious economic moment.

But Mr. McCain would let Americans keep more of their own income to ride out the downturn, while Mr. Obama is revealing that his default agenda is to spend money and expand the government."

Can we win? Yes we can!

Why? Because Joe the Plumber understands that BO is full of crap:

A simple question for Obama tonight!

This is my question for Obama:

"Senator, Tony Rezko is currently "singing" to a federal prosecutor in Chicago.

In other words, Tony Rezko is trying to get a shorter sentence by telling Prosecutor Fitzgerald what he knows about Chicago politics.

Could Tony be singing about you?

If elected, could you be involved in a Chicago corruption scandal. Can you assure the nation that Tony is not singing about you?"

This is a fair question.

Chicago politics is about as corrupt as it gets. Obama is an offspring of that political system.

Again, could Tony Rezko be singing about him?

We need to know the answer to that question.

Remember 1992? We were told by the Clinton campaign back then that character questions were a distraction from the economy.

What happened to the US economy? It did well.

What happened to Clinton's character? The record is clear.

It matters. Character matters a lot. I agree with Peter Wehner:

"Still, in our wiser moments, we have always understood that character, broadly defined, is important to possess for those in high public office, in part because it tells us whether our leaders warrant our trust, whether their word is dependable, and whether they are responsible.

And one of the best indicators of character is the people with whom you associate.

This is basic, elementary-school level common sense. The odds are your parents wanted you to hang around with the “right” crowd instead of the wrong crowd because if you hung around with the latter it meant its members would be a bad influence on you, it would reflect poorly on you, and you’d probably end up getting into trouble.

What applies to 10-year-olds also applies to presidential candidates."

Don't give me the "distraction" bit. Check out Thomas Sowell:

"Barack Obama's supporters often try to sidestep questions about his character and judgment by saying that we should stick to what they arbitrarily define as "the real issues."

But Mr. Obama's record on specific issues is as bad as his record of repeatedly allying himself over the years with people who make no attempt to hide their hatred of America."

Don't get caught in the minute to minute poll games!

Beware of polls. Beware of the sample.

How else do you explain these differences between polls?

How can one poll show Obama winning by 14, another by 4 and another by 2?

Todd Eberly is an assistant professor of political science at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Today, he posted a good analysis of all of the polls and the varying results:

"Consider the Newsweek poll.

Although the poll reports that Obama leads McCain 52 percent to 41 percent overall, the poll also shows that McCain is winning Independent voters 45 percent to 43 percent.

Obama is winning Democrats 91 percent to 5 percent and McCain wins Republican by 89 percent to 7 percent.

From these numbers, it’s difficult to understand Obama’s 11-point advantage — until you look further into the polls internals and see that the results are based on a respondent sample that was 40 percent Democrat (D), 27 percent Republican (R), and 30 percent Independent (I)."

Again, do you buy the partisan breakdown? I don't!

I don't see any evidence that the country breaks down: 40 Dem, 27 Rep and 30 Ind.

If it did then Al Gore would have won Tennessee and Clinton would have delivered Arkansas to the party in 2000!

Again, let's go back to Professor Eberly:

"The problem is:

In no recent election has the Democratic Party (or any party) enjoyed such an advantage among the American electorate.

In 2004, exit polling data found the electorate to be 37 percent D, 37 percent R and 26 percent I.

In the 2006 midterm elections for the House of Representatives the electorate was 38 percent D, 36 percent R, and 26 percent I.

In 1996 and 2000, Democrats enjoyed a 4-point edge over Republicans.

Given this history, it seems hard to believe that the Democrats have suddenly leapt to a 13-point partisan advantage."

Now, please consider this:

Pres. Johnson is the only Dem since 1948 to crack 51% of the popular vote. He actually won a 60-40% landslide over Goldwater in 1964. (Remember that election: LBJ warned us that Goldwater wanted to start a war in Vietnam!)

JFK and Clinton did not even hit 50%. Truman and Carter won 50-50 elections!

Don't get down by reading polls. Watch the baseball playoffs! The Tampa Bay Rays are an amazing story. Enjoy Carl Crawford flying around the bases and Evan Longoria putting another one in the seats.

This is still a "too close to call" election. There is no evidence that Obama has closed the deal.

What can you do? Vote. Tell your friends to vote. Show up and vote for McCain and everything will fall into place.

I am not worried about the polls.

However, I'm worried about ACORN and massive fraud in our cities. Keep in mind what Dick Morris wrote about ACORN and Obama:

"What makes ACORN particularly embarrassing for Obama is that he used to be one of them.

He served as general counsel for ACORN in Illinois, channeled millions to the organization from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (whose funds he distributed), and has lately spent $800,000 of his campaign money to subsidize the group's activities.

For this emolument, ACORN has registered voters 15 times over, canvassed the graveyards for votes and prepared to commit electoral fraud on a massive scale."

You can thank Gore 2000 for today's ACORN!

ACORN is out of control. We have written about this in previous posts. This is not just some guys on the ground who registered Mickey Mouse. This is a concerted effort to steal the 2008 election.

What happened? It starts with a misunderstanding of the 2000 election.

VP Gore did the country a terrible disservice in 2000. He put the nation through 37 days of legal technicalities.

He also gave birth to the "Bush stole the election" nonsense. Gore also set the table for Bush Derangement Syndrome!

What happened in 2000?

We had a close election. It was decided by the Constitution. It came down to the electoral college, which is the same way that every election has been decided since George Washington.

Gore was entitled to a full recount under Florida law. He didn't take it. Instead, he called for a partial recount in selected precincts.

You can't do selective recounts in a democracy. You recount all of the votes or you don't recount any of them.

What about the recount? Rick Moran wrote a great post:

"The fact that the 2000 election was so close (and the results confirmed by a consortium of independent media who took the time to recount the Florida votes several different ways proving that Bush did indeed win the state) no doubt was frustrating for the losers.

But the idea that after 8 years the left could never get over the results and indeed, showed a derangement toward the president even after a still close but decisive win in 2004 proves that it is up to us on the right to bring our politics back to a rough equilibrium so that we can work together in these perilous times."

In simple language, Bush won Florida and every recount of Florida. He won the electoral college and the 2000 election.

As a practical matter, Gore could have made Florida irrelevant by simply winning his home state of Tennessee or getting Clinton to deliver Arkansas.

No Tennessee or Arkansas for Gore. No victory for Gore. Bush is elected.

Unfortunately, the angry left, represented by ACORN, has been on the warpath against Bush. (Our Mexican readers may recognize the same irrational insanity in the PRD against Pres. Calderon!)

They think that Bush stole the election.

Therefore, they are doing everything possible to register anyone who is willing to take their cigarettes or whatever else they are offering.

You can thank Al Gore for this.

In 1960, VP Nixon had a far better case for a recount than VP Gore ever did.

In the end, Nixon put country first.

Nixon did not want to destroy Kennedy's presidency. Nixon could have blown up JFK by challenging the way that votes were counted in Chicago. He could have thrown the whole thing into the courts and delayed the start of the new administration.

Again, let's remember that the 1960 election was decided by 114,000 votes out 76 million cast. Let's also remember that the newspapers were full of stories about serious vote fraud in Chicago. VP Nixon was under a lot of pressure to call for a recount.

As John Fund wrote, there were also questions about the popular vote in Alabama. It's very likely that Nixon, not JFK, actually won the popular vote if Alabama's votes had been applied correctly!

That's all history now. I'm not into living in the past. However, there are lessons that we can learn from the past.

What's the lesson of 1960? Nixon put the country first and let Kennedy assume the presidency without challenge. What happened in 2000? Gore put himself first and damaged the nation.

Again, you can thank Al Gore for ACORN and the mess that lies ahead!

ACORN, like so much of the left, is full of hatred. They hate Bush. They don't think that he is legitimate, which is utter nonsense after the 2004 election.

Bush became the first candidate since his father in 1988 to win a majority of the popular vote in 2004. He beat Kerry, 51-48! (Clinton was elected and reelected with 43% and 48% respectively!)

Again, thanks to VP Gore for doing this to the country! Did you hear this: ACORN Does Philadelphia!

What in the world did Jesse Jackson mean?

The Obama campaign wants to run out the clock. They don't want any funny stuff.

What was Jesse Jackson saying and what he did mean in France?

Our friend Bill Katz directed us to this article by Amir Tehari:

"The most important change would occur in the Middle East, where "decades of putting Israel's interests first" would end.

Jackson believes that, although "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when
Barack Obama enters the White House.
"Obama is about change," Jackson told me in a wide-ranging conversation. "And the change that Obama promises is not limited to what we do in America itself. It is a change of the way America looks at the world and its place in it."

Jackson warns that he isn't an Obama confidant or adviser, "just a supporter."

But he adds that Obama has been "a neighbor or, better still, a member of the family." Jackson's son has been a close friend of Obama for years, and Jackson's daughter went to school with Obama's wife Michelle.

"We helped him start his career," says Jackson. "And then we were always there to help him move ahead. He is the continuation of our struggle for justice not only for the black people but also for all those who have been wronged."

The Obama campaign reacted by saying that Jackson did not speak for him on anything.

Again, we don't know why Jackson said this.

Bill Katz is right:

"Jackson is an anti-Semite who once referred to Jews as Hymies and New York as Hymietown."

Let's see how all of this plays with Jewish-Americans. My guess is that it won't play well!

BO is getting ready to throw ACORN under the bus

ACORN is a large organization. Therefore, I will accept that there are some well meaning people working there.

ACORN is also a left wing organization. They love intimidating those that they disagree with. Worst of all, they are a 'non-partisan organization' that uses taxpayer dollars to elect Dems!

ACORN is a farce. Where is the media when we really need them?

Obama and ACORN go back to his community organizer days. In today's WSJ, we read this:

"The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration.

Yet it's disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud.

As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes.

But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties.

The Justice Department needs to treat these fraud reports as something larger than a few local violators.

The question is whether Acorn is systematically subverting U.S. election law -- on the taxpayer's dime."

Let's see how Obama gets out of this one.

Where is the media? Where is the media?

How sick are things in San Francisco?

Check out what just happened in San Francisco or Nancy Pelosi's district:

It goes like this.

Lesbian A married lesbian B.

Lesbian B was a first grade teacher. So she decided to take her first grade class on a field trip, i.e. the wedding of two lesbians!

Sick, sick and more sick. Wonder if the teacher told the parents? Also, how does that teacher keep her job?

This is what they call freedom in San Francisco. This is what I call a devaluation of morality and family values.

This is what Michelle Malkin just posted:

"“Taking children out of school for a same-sex wedding is not customary education.

This is promoting same-sex marriage and indoctrinating young kids,” said Yes on 8—ProtectMarriage.com Campaign Co-Manager Frank Schubert.

“I doubt the school has ever taken kids on a field trip to a traditional wedding,” Schubert said."

ProtectMarriage.com is fighting for traditional marriage in California. They are up against a well financed and organized movement. They deserve your support.

We have two problems with same sex marriage:

First, marriage is between a man and a woman. Marriage is about children and family.

Second, the people should decide not unelected judges.

We have not been actively following the proposition in California. I don't know where it stands at the moment. This is what it's about:

"Proposition 8 places into the California Constitution the same language that voters already passed by 61% of the vote in 2000.

This is necessary to overturn an outrageous California Supreme Court decision that overturned Proposition 22."

Let's pray that common sense returns to the Golden State. Who ever heard of first graders taking a "field trip" to a wedding between lesbians?

They picked the wrong mouse to register as a Democrat!

Saturday Night Live couldn't make this up. ACORN has now gone from the insane to whatever is worse than insane. Check this out:

"Mickey Mouse tried to register to vote in Florida this summer.

Orange County elections officials rejected his application, which was stamped with the logo of the nonprofit group ACORN.

Tow truck driver Newton Bell did register to vote in Orange County this summer. In the hands of ACORN, his paperwork went through without a hitch.

Two cases, two outcomes, each with a connection to ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now."

Again, how badly does ACORN want to win?

Mickey Mouse is a Republican. How do I know that? Because Mickey is a self made mouse. He is not waiting for the government check. Years ago, Mickey took a major entrepreneurial risk and created one of the greatest entertainment empires ever.

Also, Mickey doesn't resent success. He wants everybody to succeed. He doesn't hate Donald Duck or Pluto. He loves the fact that they are just as successful and rich as he is.

ACORN picked the wrong guy to register as an Obama Democrat. Mickey is a capitalist icon. ACORN should register Che! At least, Che would vote for Obama!

ACORN's vote fraud goes national!

ACORN has taken vote fraud to a level not seen in a long time.

Let's see what's happening in Pennsylvania. Jeffrey Lord was a Reagan White House political director. He writes this from Pennsylvania:

"Is it really possible that the presidency could be stolen for Obama by virtue of a massive voter fraud here in Pennsylvania?

And elsewhere? ACORN seems to think so.

One so-called "non-partisan" ACORN member, Gleason pointed out, has been captured on video tape saying the group's objective was to "beat McCain down."

Not exactly "non-partisan" sounding, is it?

Newman, the retired Supreme Court Justice, was blunt on the evidence:

"I don't want a president who does this."

ACORN clearly does.

Makes you wonder: why?"

ACORN is part of something beyond stealing elections. It is what Michael Barone calls The Coming Obama Thugocracy.

Obama and the liberals will go after conservatives with a vengeance. They will use the unelected judges to force their agenda on the rest of us.

Obama will go after talk radio by promoting something obscene called "the fairness doctrine".

Believe me. ACORN is just the first act of what lies ahead.

Buck up and vote. It's up to you and me to stop this!

Obama does not understand how wealth is created!

Monday's strong market is hopefully the end of this ten day mess.

Why? Because the country needs to get back to a McCain-Obama election.

We must get back to a debate about Obama's future vision not just the people that he hung around with.

Yes, Ayers, Wright and Rezko show poor judgement. However, Obama's big government vision is deadly for creating jobs and wealth.

Obama's new tax plan raises more questions. For example, Rush Limbaugh asked a simple but important question today:

"We don't know if he's talking income.

We don't know if he's talking gross. We don't and he doesn't, either. None of this is true!

The $250,000 figure and his statement that 95% of small businesses earn less than that -- gross, net, inventory, whatever -- it's just the magic figure to play the class envy card."

That's right.

Patterico has a more detailed explanation:

"It’s difficult for me to imagine a business that has 50 or more employees (let alone 500-1,000) that has receipts of less than $250,000 per year.

And, given the SBA definitions of “small business,” it seems likely that many small businesses in a wide range of industries have receipts of more than $250,000 per year.

If so, it is appalling that Obama would imply that, if he is President, a small percentage of businesses exceed the $250,000 per year cut-off for increased taxation under his tax plan.

In fact, the number of businesses subject to additional tax may be large and could well be the 50% number I think John McCain mentioned.

Small businesses are vital to the American economy and Americans’ livelihoods, and it sounds like Obama wants to tax as many as he possibly can."

Small businesses are not just vital. They are the US economy. We hear a lot about GM and others. However, most jobs today come from those small businesses popping up all over.

Obama does not understand wealth. Unfortunately, he has been hanging around with people who are into redistribution rather wealth creation.

The US economy will come out OK

Let me guess: Will today's headlines be about the stock market or Sarah Palin's daughter?

"The major U.S. stock indexes each gained more than 11%....."

Here is really good news: Gas price marks biggest drop ever...

Here is my message: Keep an eye on dropping gas prices! They are cash flow for families and businesses.

This is why we say in this blog: Believe in the US economy!

IBD reminds us about the amazing US economy:

"Even after our stock market and housing losses, the U.S. is still extraordinarily wealthy.

In the second quarter, Fed data show, the U.S. private sector owned $110.6 trillion in assets — an immense amount of wealth.

The estimated $1 trillion to $2 trillion cost of the current financial mess is small by comparison."

How bad are things? Ask your parents or grandparents who grew up in the Great Depression of the 1930's:

"During the Great Depression, U.S. output plunged 27% in four years; unemployment neared a third of the work force.

Real private investment shrank 87% in three years; personal spending plunged 41%.

We're not close to that."

We are doing quite well, specially when you compare us with everybody else. After all, where would you like to start a company or look for a job? The answer is the US!

The US economy is the best in the world. According to WEF:

"The US has again topped a widely-watched index ranking country competitiveness, despite the financial crisis that has left it and other highly ranked nations facing market meltdown and a prolonged economic downturn.

The WEF’s global competitiveness index this year rates 134 countries on 12 criteria which include quality of education, labour and product market flexibility, infrastructure, macroeconomic stability and “financial market sophistication”.

Like the rival index produced by the Swiss-based IMD business school, the WEF index relies heavily on the views of business executives as well as statistical data, and the rankings depend crucially on the weights given to the various factors."

The other 9 in the top 10 are Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Singapore, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong and Britain.

Sadly, there were no Latin American countries on the top list.

Why? Because Lat Am countries have fallen for the same misguided populism and protectionism that you hear from Obama.

We will get through this current storm. Like previous stock market meltdowns in April 2000 or October 1987, we will survive, recover and come back stronger.

Of course, I'm assuming that we don't elect Obama, raise "taxes on the rich" and promote protectionism.

Obama and the promises that he can't keep! (a.k.a. be careful what you wish for!)

In 2008, Barrack Obama was the anti-war and the "hope and change" candidate.

Who can forget the rallies, the promises, and the "hope and change" speeches?

Obama should take a few minutes this weekend and read David Broder's latest column:

"For now, Obama can benefit from the plausibility of his contention that this is "the final verdict" on the policies of the Bush administration, supported for the most part by McCain and other Republicans.

But in a few weeks, the winner of the election will take custody of the problem, and his name and reputation -- not Bush's -- will be on the line."

Broder has a point. If Obama wins then these will be his concerns rather quickly.

Yes, the new president can blame Pres. Bush for a while.

Obama won't be able to do it once you get into next fall or winter.

Can you say Bill Clinton 1993 or Jimmy Carter 1977? Blaming your predecessor works for a while until it doesn't any more!

Eventually, the problems become your problems, the war becomes your war and the recession becomes your recession. Again, can you say Carter or Clinton?

Keep in mind that Carter & a Dem Congress was an electoral disaster for the Dems. It gave us the 1978 Republican gains in the midterms, the Reagan 1980 landslide and a Republican Senate.

Not bad!

Keep in mind that Clinton & a Dem Congress gave us the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress!

Again, not bad!

What happens when Dems finally govern?

They don't govern. Can you say Pelosi and Reid? What are their approval ratings? They are 16% according to the latest RCP! They are worst than Bush!

The Dems are great at bashing Bush and blaming everything on Republicans.

They are not very good at getting things done, largely because the urban left wingers won't compromise with all of those rural southern centrists.

The differences go beyond economics and foreign policy. There are also huge cultural and values differences between rural Dems and urban liberals over abortion, same sex marriage and gun control.

Don't take my word for it: Go back and study the Carter presidency and the first two years of Clinton.

Obama's worst problem is that he has raised expectations beyond any rational level.

I have never seen a candidate promise more and be less specific than Obama.

I have never seen more irrational supporters than the "Obama-tistas" of 2008.

How can you govern when your supporters really think that you "can heal the planet"?

Isn't healing the planet and lowering the ocean levels a bit beyond a human being's pay grade?

It's remarkable that this guy has gotten this far without anyone asking him to explain those tax cuts for everybody making less than $250,000!

Check The WSJ's Obama's 95% Illusion (It depends on what the meaning of 'tax cut'):

"For the Obama Democrats, a tax cut is no longer letting you keep more of what you earn.

In their lexicon, a tax cut includes tens of billions of dollars in government handouts that are disguised by the phrase "tax credit.""

It's all a big joke. There is no tax cut unless you want to believe that there is a tax cut!

Obama is simply mailing people money. Why? Because 30% of Americans don't pay federal income taxes at all!

You can't cut taxes for people who don't pay taxes!

It's a joke! Yet, no one in the media has challenged the candidate!

Obama has been the luckiest guy in the world so far. He got every bounce and close pitch during the Dem primaries. He got really lucky that the latest economic crisis happened a month before the election. After all, wasn't McCain leading in all of the early September polls?

However, don't they also say "be careful what you wish for"?

Based on today's polls, the good news for liberals is that they are about to get a president and a congress.

The very bad news is that there is no money to keep all of those campaign promises about health care and college loans.

It won't be pretty when they have to say "no" over and over again.

It won't be pretty to fix Medicare.

It won't be pretty to fix Social Security unless you raise taxes, cut benefits or let younger workers invest in private accounts as Pres. Bush recommended in 2005.

Wonder how long before the base directs its rage at Obama as it did to Pelosi-Reid over their failure to stop the Iraq War?

What will happen when they realize that they voted for Obama and got McCain/Bush in Iraq?

Again, Obama should check out Broder's article. He will probably start praying for a McCain victory as soon as he digests Broder's sober analysis.

P.S. Don't get me wrong. I want McCain to win. However, I'm simply warning my Dem friends to be careful what they wish for.

They may get a Dem president & Dem Congress.

They will also get ownership of all of those problems that come with running things. Sometimes, it's a lot more fun to sit in the bleachers and blame everything on Bush or McCain!

Where is the media outrage over the angry left?

The "media in the tank for Obama" continues the Republican rage narrative.

Unfortunately, the media has overlooked the angry left.

The Power Line has a good post:

"Wow. How deranged can you get?

Of course, John McCain gets booed at Obama rallies, too.

But that's different: McCain deserves to be booed.

When Republicans boo the reporters' beloved Barack, that's an entirely different phenomenon."

Rick Moran takes a look at some recent liberal anger:

"If I were the left, I’d give up on this transparent attempt to smear GOP partisans and look to their own house instead.

Michelle Malkin has at least 2 dozen examples of the kind of out of control rage that the left is weeping about with regards to Republicans at McCain rallies.

Out. Of. Control."

They have been out of control since Al Gore couldn't win Tennessee!

Yes, there is anger. There is a lot of anger because the media is in the tank for Obama!

When will Senator Dodd hold a press conference?

The Dems are furious at the "greedy capitalists". However, it was "corrupt Dems" like Senator Dodd that made it all possible.

Today, The WSJ has a great editorial about Sen. Dodd:

"Former Lehman Brothers CEO Dick Fuld was under oath Monday when he was grilled on Capitol Hill about his role in the current financial meltdown.

But if Members really want to understand the credit mania, they should also call Chris Dodd."

Senator Dodd is the poster-boy for Dem corruption over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Frankly, it's hard to believe that Sen. Dodd is still running the banking committee!

What about those political contributions? $165,400! The # 1 favorite senator!

What about that loan from Countrywide?

Aren't we entitled to get some answers? I think so!

Congratulations to the # 1 Longhorns!

What an exciting weekend for Texas football. Even Aggie fans are happy to see the Longhorns make it to # 1:

"Texas (6-0) received 39 first-place votes and 1,599 points to leapfrog No. 2 Alabama, which was idle over the weekend.

The Crimson Tide (6-0) received the other 26 first-place votes and 1,582 points.

There was even more distance between the top two spots in the USA Today poll, which accounts for one-third of the formula used in the Bowl Championship Series rankings.

Texas received 44 first-place votes and 1,505 in voting of 61 Division I-A coaches.

Alabama received 14 first-place votes and 1,452 points while No. 3 Penn State had three first-place votes and 1,416 points."

Texas plays # 11 Missouri next week. We hope that they win every game except the annual match against Texas A&M on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Congratulations to Coach Brown and everyone associated with UT football.

It's great to be # 1!

What a crazy Cowboys' game!

Let's hope that the Cowboys don't play a lot of games like this in the future.

The Cowboys looked dead in the water with 3 minutes to go. They were down by 10 and looking bad. I was ready to take my sofa pillow and throw it at the TV.

Then everything changed in a second.

First, Barber goes 60 yards and we are down by 3. Great run! Barber is turning into one of the most reliable rushers in the NFL. He reminds you a little bit of Emmitt Smith because he can rush and turn a short pass into a long play.

Second, the defense sacks QB Warner and we get the ball back with a minute to go.

Third, Romo makes a beautiful pass down the middle and puts us withing FG range.

Fourth, the Cowboys catch a little luck when a Cardinal player is injured and the clock stops.

There are now 4 seconds left in the game!

Fifth, Nick Folk hits a 53 yard FG to tie the game.

Can it get any better? More exciting!

Can it get any worse? Unfortunately, yes!

In the overtime period, Matt McBrian's punt was blocked and the game was over in a second.

I did not know this:

"It was the first time in NFL history that a blocked punt for a touchdown ended a game in overtime."

This was the kind of game where you went from gloom to doom to happiness to excitement and ultimately pain.

We need a rout next week to recover some of our energy and broken heart!

Your weekend humor: Acorn claims to be non-partisan!

Humor comes in many forms. Sometimes, bad humor comes in the form of an ACORN interview. Check the video below. This is an Acorn-ee claiming that their effort is non-partisan! If Acorn is nonpartisan then The NY Times is an honest newspaper!

Of course, this is not funny, unless you think that 7 year old girls should vote. Go Acorn! I guess that this is Acorn's juvenile division!

I fear that vote fraud is going to be a huge problem in Philadelphia, Cleveland and other big cities in battleground states.

McCain will need huge turnouts from suburban and rural voters to offset it!

Where is the outrage when they say it about our guys?

The "media in the tank for Obama" is showing its true colors.

Check out the outrage over an incident at a McCain rally.

Yes, it's true that some idiot called Obama a "liar" and that someone else said "kill him".

Of course, those are very unfortunate displays of immaturity. Yes, they happen and should not be tolerated. Also, the guy who said "kill him" should be prosecuted for using such language.

During the Clinton years, I was critical of Clinton. At the same time, I did not subscribe to the extreme attacks. Clinton was the president and the office deserves our respect.

Here is the part that I don't get!

Where is the outrage when these words are aimed at us?

Stephen F. Hayes has a great post today:

"The new media narrative was born after McCain's town hall in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Thursday, where several voters voiced the frustration and, yes, anger in questions to McCain.

And several voters shouted their criticism of Obama, echoing McCain from the stage.

And from that, we were told, Republicans are filled with "rage."

Of course, there were 5,000 people at the event; maybe two or three dozen shouted criticism of Obama.

The vast majority never shouted criticism.

But in the last 36 hours, we've seen three examples of real anger on the left.

And as the old media axiom has it, three makes a trend.

This morning at a McCain rally here, a bearded young man in the crowd responded to a McCain critique of Barack Obama by shouting:

"You're a liar John!"

He then hoisted a young woman with an antiwar poster onto his shoulders and began yelling antiwar gibberish as McCain tried to continue his speech.

When McCain supporters ripped up the woman's sign, she unfolded another one and the spectacle continued.

Earlier, at a rally in Philadelphia, Obama praised John McCain's service to America and called for a civil debate over the final days of the campaign.

He was lustily booed by his angry supporters.

And yesterday, at a McCain rally in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, another angry heckler shouted "Liar" and other insults at McCain from the crowd. Can we expect stories on this disturbing trend?

Don't bet on it."

Now, let me get this straight. There are 5,000 people at a McCain rally. Two idiots say something stupid and that's now the face of the new angry Republican of 2008!

Again, I don't get this selective outrage.

A couple of years ago, some idiot made a movie about the assassination of Pres. Bush. Where was the outrage?

Have you heard or read what the left writes about Bush, Cheney, and now McCain-Palin?

In a week, Oliver Stone, the same director who made the hysterical movie called JFK, is releasing a movie about Pres. Bush.

Based on the TV trailer, it presents a sitting president as a moron and an idiot.
