Mike Modano and The Dallas Stars are the last local team to win a major pro-sports title around here. Unfortunately, it was the 1998-99 Stanley Cup over Buffalo.
The Rangers have not won the AL West since 1999. The Mavericks are still in shock and trauma after losing the 2006 NBA Finals. (They were 2-0 before losing 4 straight to Miami!) The Cowboys have lost in the first round in back to back seasons.
Who is winning around here? The Dallas Tornado is winning. Who are these guys? They are a Junior 'A' level ice hockey team! They are a lot of fun to watch!
Who else is winning? The Texas Longhorns won the college football title in 2005-2006! They beat USC!
So the young guys are winning. The pros need to win!
Nevertheless, I like the Stars' chances this year. This is a good mix of talent.
Mike Heika of The Dallas Morning News is high on the Stars. (Expectations high for Dallas Stars this season) His pick for Western Conference finals: Detroit over Dallas!
This is a long season and there is a lot hockey ahead. It starts tonight against Columbus. Let's go Stars!
