Can someone explain the Cubs?
The Cubs are down 0-2 against LA. Perhaps, they will prove me wrong, come back, win 3 games and get into the NLCS.
I picked them to play in the NLCS but it does not look like my prediction will come true.
I'm old enough to remember the summer of 1969. The Cubs were up 10 games in August and headed for the post-season.
They had a great team.
"Should be in the Hall of Fame" Ron Santo at third base.
Hall of Famers Ernie Banks and Billy Williams in the middle of the lineup.
Fergie Jenkins and Ken Holtzman were the heart of the rotation.
The Cubs blew the lead. That was the curse of the black cat!
They went into Shea Stadium to play the Mets. They got swept.
It was the black cat that some fan threw on the field. Why not? What's your excuse?
There are other examples.
In 1984, the Cubs were 2-0 on San Diego and dropped three straight. I can still recall that ground ball getting through Durham's glove. What a horrible way to lose a Series.
In 2003, the Cubs were 5 outs away from beating the Marlins and winning the NL pennant. They lost game 6 and game 7.
Add 2007. It's beginning to look like 2008 will be bad too.
Maybe the stuff about the goat is true. There is no logical way to explain the Cubs' misfortunes. So let me subscribe to the goat theory. It makes more sense than anything else!
