Brad Lidge is the difference!

Game 1 goes to the Phillies. I'm not counting the Rays out. Again, this series will go 7.

Nevertheless, game 1 reminded me of Earl Weaver's baseball master plan. Weaver won 4 AL pennants with the Orioles and had one of the best winning pct. in recent major league history.

This is how Earl won all of those games: Complete games and 3-run homers!

In game 1, the Phillies got a great start from the starting pitcher. They got a big hit from one of their hitters.

And Brad Lidge closed the game.

We remember Lidge because he pitched with Houston a couple of years ago. He was lights out whenever he came in. He saved 29, 42 and 32 games for the Astros in 2004-06!

Again, Lidge was lights out.

The Rays are still in the series. However, the Phillies' mission is to take a lead to the 8th or 9th inning.

If Philadelphia has a late lead then Lidge comes in and it's over!
