The immigration marches still have a flag problem!
The immigration marches are back but the marchers decided to stay home and watch "futbol" or "la telenovela".
In LA, the march was a disappointment:
"Two years ago, the May Day march drew more than 500,000 supporters registering their protest of recently scuttled plans to make being an illegal immigrant a felony. Last year, the crowd was estimated at 35,000 and today it appeared to be smaller, with thousands of protesters from two main marches converging on City Hall in the late afternoon." (This year's May Day rally draws business support, but far fewer protesters)
It was no better here in Dallas:
"More than 100 marchers took to the sidewalks in Dallas on Thursday, calling for an end to raids and deportations as part of a comprehensive immigration overhaul – a group that stood in sharp contrast to the hundreds of thousands who marched in 2006."
It was no better in Arizona:
"Margot Veranes, a volunteer organizer in Tucson, Ariz., — where 12,000 took to the streets last year but early estimates Thursday put the crowd at about 500 — blamed the turnout on aggressive enforcement by Border Patrol and police." (May Day: Thousands Rally Across the Country for Immigration Reform)
The march organizers are once again lacking in common sense. Beyond the pictures and placards, we see the presence of left wing groups. These lefties promote everything, from same sex marriage to the cancellation of NAFTA:
"WE NEED to link the connections between:
wars in Africa, south America, Asia, Iraq, Palestine & Korea with sweatshops in Asia as well as in Los Angeles, New York;
international arm sales and WTO, FTAA, NAFTA & CAFTA with AIDS, hunger, child labors and child solider;
multinational corporations and economic exploitation with racism and poverty at home–then we can win the struggle.
Let’s all come together, on May Day 2008, to build a new immigrant rights and civil rights movements!" (Call to May Day 2008 Mobilization!)
What do any of these demands have to do with immigration? The answer is nothing!
Wonder why the marches have bombed with the US public?
Do the march leaders seriously believe that they are going to reach US citizens by carrying these flags? The immigration movement needs serious leadership rather than more demagoguery!
