McCain or Romney---I can't decide!

Sometimes, your first choice is your best choice. A year ago, I was ready to support Sen. McCain for president and Mitt Romney for VP. (McCain-Romney in 2008)

Like most Republicans, I sat back and looked at the field because we have an outstanding group of candidates. Besides, I did not have to decide in 2007!

After further review, I am still stuck between John McCain and Mitt Romney for President! Thank God that I don't live in beautiful New Hampshire! My guess is that it will be a tough fight between them. Too close to call but leaning McCain.

On Sunday night's NH debate, Mitt Romney was outstanding. On every issue, he was impressive, clear and so presidential. He won hands down! (Romney & McCain in Fine Form) (Power Line's review of the debate is worth reading)

On foreign policy, Republicans understand the major issue of our time. We are at war with a radical element that wants to destroy the West. They don't hate us because we invaded Iraq. They hate because we are free and let our daughters go to school.

They attacked us before Iraq and will continue to do so in the future, specially if we go back to the Clinton days when we indicted terrorists!

McCain is second to none on national security. Romney has 30 years of executive experience in the private and public sector.

Our next president faces major challenges. We need an honest man who does not read polls. We need a leader who will tell us what we don't want to hear, specially on the issue of entitlements and national security.

I agree with Romney that the federal government needs a massive overhaul. It goes beyond parties. Washington is so far behind the private sector that it's frightening.

On immigration, I don't think that the differences between McCain and Romney today are as vast as they appear.

True. McCain tried to solve the problem with something called comprehensive immigration reform.

It flopped. The public anger was huge. Yet, I give McCain credit for trying to bring the two parties together. We can not fix problems with straight party votes!

At the same time, Giuliani was right last night when he said that no one is perfect on immigration. Governors and Mayors have had to deal with illegal immigrants because the federal government fumbled this one.

I don't care about the past. What matters now is the future. What are we going to do to control the lawless border and punish employers who hire illegal aliens? Also, sanctuary cities have to be shut down!

Both men are committed to border security. I don't think that anything resembling last year's immigration reform package will show up in Congress anytime soon. Our next president will fix the border before he touches the hot potato of legalizing anybody here!

McCain enjoys a huge advantage because he gets independents, as well as Republicans. According to Rasmussen:

"The Senator from Arizona is currently viewed favorably by 55% of the nation’s voters. That’s the most positive rating of any Presidential candidate in either party..."

The Wall Street Journal spoke for many of about McCain's national security credentials!

There are many endorsements for both of these men.

Sen. Lieberman endorsed Sen. McCain. It does not get any better than that!

The Boston Globe has just endorsed McCain! (For Republicans: John McCain)

Former Sec. Kissinger endorsed McCain! Jack Kemp Endorses McCain !

McCain Endorsed by Over 100 Admirals and Generals John McCain: The Old Warhorse By Victor Davis Hanson!

Romney has his own list of endorsements, specially the grand slam from NATIONAL REVIEW! (Romney for President)

Over the next few weeks, I will watch Romney and McCain. I can't decide today! I like them both! Maybe they should run together.

McCain of all the candidates is the one that stood fast and did not waver from his position to satisfy the electorate. You have to respect that. Less money, less scripted, almost human.
Romney, all plastic, which will wither and melt as the heat goes up.
Only unfortunate that whomever is the Republican nominee will losse to the Dems...for two reasons, the Bush legacy and the need for change and the Republicans do not have a change candidate.
