Is Fred waiting too long?

According to news reports, former Senator Fred Thompson is supposed to give us a date regarding his eventual announcement that he is seeking the presidency.

Frankly, it's still early and I don't think that Thompson's delay has hurt him.

The Republican race is still fluid and in the spring training season. It's true that Giuliani is doing well but it's too early to make your final bets.

Take your time, Senator Thompson! We can wait!

Another horrible Friday for the doom and gloom crowd!

The dynamic and amazing US economy had another great quarter:

"The gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic health, expanded at an annual rate of 4 percent in the April-June quarter, significantly higher than the 3.4 percent rate the government had initially estimated a month ago, the Commerce Department reported Thursday." (Economy Grows at Fastest Pace in a Year)

Of course, there are some concerns over the sub-prime mortgage situation. Yet, the picture is positive, unless you are still counting votes in Florida!

Thursday's show: Hispanics and Immigration

On Thursday's show, we spoke with fellow "cubano" Alex Burgos about immigration, Governor Romney and Hispanics. (Romney has a new ad about illegal immigration)

The left wants you to believe that every immigrant supports amnesty and open borders. In fact, I disagree with that.

As immigrants, we are sympathetic but we understand the rule of law. No one understands the rule of law better than my parents' generation. They left Cuba because there was not respect for the law under the Castro dictatorship. (Castro Health Crisis by )

Yes, Senator Craig needs to resign!

Frankly, I don't care whether he is or isn't a homosexual.

What matters is that he is a US Senator and we expect our elected leaders to behave correctly.

So it's time for Senator Craig to resign! (Senator McCain is already calling for his resignation, too!)

What happens if we enforce immigration laws?

Something is happening in Arizona:

"Some are moving to other states, where they think they will have an easier time getting jobs. Others are returning to Mexico, selling their effects and putting their houses on the market." (Migrants Self-Deporting In Arizona)

What's going on? Arizona is getting very tough with employers!

For some time, I have supported strict enforcement of our labor laws. Why? Because it will discourage illegal immigration. More importantly, it will force the government to do something about the labor shortages that may occur.

If we enforce the laws then businesses will demand some type of a guest worker program to hire people.

It may be that enforcement is the best long term solution. First, enforce the law. Second, give employers the tools to bring workers legally.

Let's try it and see what happens! Our current system is chaotic and needs to stop!

I agree with this:

"And, if there is indeed a serious crackdown and the economy does not fall apart, then those who said the rules should be changed because the current ones are unenforceable will have to find a new rationale. Of course, if a shortage of workers does tank the economy then it will make a powerful statement about the need for reform." (Immigration Crackdown Will Answer Questions By Peter Brown)

Let's enforce the law and see what happens. It may be the best way to actually get a reasonable immigration reform package!

Ambassador Elvira?

Elvira Arellano can't stay quiet and raise her son. She can not stay away from the TV cameras. Elvira even has a song! ("We are not criminals, We are not terrorists, We are honest working families and we need this....")

Of course, no one has accused Elvira of being a criminal, terrorist or unwilling to work.

Our problem is that Elvira does not want to obey court orders.

In the real world, I don't get to disobey legal notices. Why should Elvira get an exemption?

Now, Elvira wants to be appointed as Mexico's "peace ambassador":

"What I'm asking for is a diplomatic visa so that I can be an ambassador for peace and justice because I'm not a terrorist and the United States can't continue treating undocumented migrants as terrorists," Arellano told reporters after meeting with President Felipe Calderon at the presidential residence, Los Pinos." (Deported Mexican migrant mom asks Mexican president to return to US as peace ambassador)

First of all, do the US and Mexico need another ambassador? Who is going to pay her salary and expense accounts? Does Elvira know that the "terrible US" is already paying 25% of the UN budget?

It's time for Elvira to give up the fight and start doing something worthwhile with her life, such as raising her son and identifying the father. It's time for the invisible jerk to pay for little Saul's expenses!

Elvira's "15 minutes of fame" is up but she does not want to accept it!

Rick Moran on our Tuesday show

On Tuesday's show, we spoke with Rick Moran of Right Wing NutHouse. Click here and enjoy the show!

Our good economy continues to get better

Captain Ed has the best line on this:

"The Bush tax cuts and the growth they have fueled has added to the engine of advancing living standards started under the Reagan administration. The best poverty program is a job, and the longest-term strategy is movement to an ownership society. With a large percentage of Americans owning stock in corporations through retirement plans and investments, even modest portfolios, the economic strategies used over the last 25 years have not only built a better standard of living but also a more secure retirement across all economic strata." (Poverty Rates Drop In US)

Wow!

IBD has an even better line:

"It probably won't get much play (seeing that it happened on George Bush's watch), but it's worth noting nonetheless: The U.S. poverty rate dropped from 12.6% in 2005 to 12.3% in 2006. (The 12.3%, by the way, is below the 12.9% average under President Clinton, but you probably won't see that mentioned much either.)" (Even Further Progress On Poverty)

Wow again!

Since the summer of 1981, when Pres. Reagan signed those huge tax cuts, we've seen a great expansion of the US economy. (Look at the chart again!)

Since then, we've heard all of the Dems' nonsense about "tax cuts for the rich" and the rest of the populist crap. Yet, it's working and working well!

What's next? Cut more tax rates! In fact, cut the income tax completely and replace it with a national sales tax.

The leftist Dems are going after centrist Dems

The summer of 2007 was supposed to be the great "anti-war summer"! It was supposed to be the summer when public opinion would force Republicans to turn against Pres. Bush on Iraq.

So far, the summer of 2007 has been the "season of the witch" for Nancy Sheehan and the anti-war left! (Democrats Miscalculate On Iraq)

In fact, it is now the left wing Dems who are going after the centrist Dems who are supporting the war:

"Rep. Brian Baird’s (D-Wash.) recent conversion on the Iraq war is beginning to affect more than the national dialogue. On Wednesday, liberal group MoveOn.org announced an ad campaign against the congressman in his own district. Baird recently returned from a trip to Iraq and reversed his position on a withdrawal timetable, citing military progress in the four-year-old war." (MoveOn targets pro-surge Democrat)

Baird voted against the war but has a new view on Iraq. (Our troops have earned more time )

After September, you will see more internal party battles over Iraq. Get ready for lots of blood on the Dems' side of the floor! (Good news, but not for Democrats)

Fidel is crazy about Clinton-Obama

Fidel Castro has not been seen in public for quite some time. Some say that he is dead or disabled. My guess is that he is very sick and can not appear in any public events.

Anyway, Castro has found time to write a great deal from his hospital bed. His latest essay is Castro's tip: Clinton-Obama the winning ticket:

"Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro is tipping Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to team up and win the U.S. presidential election."

Wonder how that will play in Florida?

Of course, Fidel Castro is not formally endorsing anyone. He is simply saying that Clinton-Obama would be a strong ticket.

In past years, such an essay would have been the kiss of death for a Democrat nominee. However, the modern left wing Dem party is populated by Hollywood-ies and others who seem content to carry Castro's water. In fact, they will carry any one's water as long as he or she hates Bush!

What will it mean? Not much! I'm sure that Clinton and Obama will go out of their way to distance themselves from the essay.

However, it can not be denied that the world's bad guys, from Castro to Chavez to the North Korea headcase, seem to prefer Democrats over Republicans! Wonder why?

Boston vs New York

Boston leads NY by 7.5 games. The Yankees are down 2 in the wild card.

It will be tough for NY to make up 7.5 games because they play Boston only 6 more times. Therefore, NY must be thinking about taking 5 of 6 or at least 4 of 6 to stay even.

Beyond Boston, NY must concentrate on the wild card. Seattle and LA play each other this week.

No matter what, it will be a great pennant race. By the way, our friend Paul Greco will join us on Tuesday, September 4th to talk baseball!

A survey about our parents or grandparents!

It's 11pm and what are you grandparents doing? Perhaps they are having a little fun! (Survey: Seniors Have Sex Into 70s, 80s)

Of course, Fidel is alive! Mira como baila!

Our friends at The Babalu Blog have the latest video out of Cuba! Who could say that Fidel is dead? Mira como baila! Check out the video. It will prove for once and for all that Fidel is alive and within days of coming back into power! After all, why would you doubt anything coming out of the Cuban government?

Sen. Obama on Alberto Gonzalez

Senator Obama wants to be a "uniter", the kind of leader who brings us together.

What did Sen. Obama say about the Attorney General's resignation:

"I have long believed that Alberto Gonzales subverted justice to promote a political agenda, and so I am pleased that he has finally resigned today. The President needs to nominate an Attorney General who will be the people's lawyer, not the President's lawyer, and in an Obama Administration that person will first and foremost defend and promote the rights and liberties enshrined in our Constitution," said Obama."

Sen. Obama's cheap shot is not going to unite the country. Indeed, it will endear him to the angry left wing base but not the rest of us!

If he is serious, Sen. Obama should also blast the "gotcha" politics coming out of his Democrat colleagues. Furthermore, he should give us some examples of how this administration has violated our rights.

Again, Obama and the Democrats are pathetic!

Adios Alberto and another shameful statement from Teddy K!

Alberto Gonzalez is a good man, a Hispanic and another one with ties to George W Bush from his Texas days.

Last December, Gonzalez mishandled the firing of US attorneys. He did not explain it well. It became a partisan issue. In football terms, he fumbled the ball and let the other team score! (Gonzo Gone)

Pres. Bush needs to appoint someone who will fight back and tell Senator Leahy to lock his witch hunt.

Like Rove, Gonzalez did not break the law. He was only part of the team that caused Ann Richards, Al Gore and John Kerry to change their residency plans!

Finally, it does not help to read this from Ted Kennedy:

"He has exhibited a lack of candor with Congress and the American people and a disdain for the rule of law and our constitutional system. I strongly urge President Bush to nominate a new attorney general who will respect our laws and restore the integrity of the office."Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.

Isn't this a little strange coming from Ted Kennedy? Chappaquiddick? Bobby Kennedy, The FBI and Martin Luther King!

The left is crazier than crazy these days!

In this blog, we have chronicled the total meltdown of the left. Simply put, these folks have gone insane since VP Gore could not win his home state of Tennessee.

Sit back and read this:

1) John Edwards thinks that Karl Rove is out to get him:

"In other words, Rove assumes the left-wing base is a bunch of reactionary morons, so he harnessed the power of Bush Derangement Syndrome in 2004 by using their moronic reactionary tendencies against them. Now Silky, whose entire fundraising operation is premised upon Rove’s assumption being essentially true, is actually pointing out to them what reactionary morons they are in an attempt to co-opt their mindless BDS towards his own ends. Brilliant!" (Rove fears me)

2) Karl Rove is driving them mad in so many ways:

"Once you come to the conclusion that conservatives don't just have a different philosophy than you, that they actually do what they do because they're evil, then it's a pretty short leap to compare Bush to Hitler and assume that Karl Rove talked Jenna Bush into getting married in an attempt to spike her father's approval ratings." (John Hawkins)

3) The left is promoting conspiracy after conspiracy, from Pres. Bush stole the election in 2000 to Pres. Bush stole another election in 2004. (The Horror! The Horror! The paranoid style of the American left by Noemie Emery)

4) Last, but not least, HuffPo Calls For Military Coup In USA:

"Martin Lewis claims that the military can arrest a President while not conducting a coup d'etat by focusing only on his role as Commander in Chief of the military..."

Wonder what Martin Lewis would have said if conservatives had made a similar request during Pres. Clinton's term? After all, didn't the military code of conduct apply to the Commander in Chief? After all, what would have happened to any senior military commander if he had engaged in any of Pres. Clinton's reckless behavior?

Frankly the left is going nuts. The Democrats are compounding the anger because they don't have the courage to carry out any of the left's demands, such as in Iraq.

Last November, the left told us that the new Congress would take us in a new direction in Iraq. So far, the Dems have produced non-binding resolutions and continue to fund the war.

Why? Because they are afraid to implement their campaign promises! They just don't want to be responsible for anything in Iraq, including their own campaign promises!

How can anyone vote for these people?

It must be tough to be a lefty these days.

As the world turns, Pres. Bush is leading and the Dems are hating! (The Left Shudders And Bush leads by William Kristol)

Pres. Bush is dealing with problems and the Dems are just investigating and watching their approval ratings drop even further. (Just 18% approve of job Congress is doing)

The left is just angry and very angry with Democrats! (SEN. CLINTON'S MIXED MESSAGE...)

The primary leftist voters have forced every candidate to move to the left, on everything from economics to foreign policy.

It's gets even more silly. Senator Hillary Clinton is now saying that another terrorist attack will help Republicans! See the video!

Apparently, Senator Clinton is not worried about loss of life or property destruction. She is concerned about political advantage. (...AND HER FOUL 'FEAR')

Wonder why this woman has such high negative ratings? It appears that Dems are afraid of having Sen. Clinton leading their ticket! (Democrats: We Fear Hillary)

What Senator Clinton should have said is that the US has not been attacked since 9-11. Why not? Because Pres. Bush put through Congress a list of programs that have made it easier for us to defend ourselves, such as The Patriot Act and listening to telephone conversations between terrorists and their allies in the US!

Senator Clinton's comments confirms that national security still haunts Dems! They know that they can't compete on that issue! (The Dems' Security Insecurity)

Bottom line: The left is angry! Just ask Nancy Sheehan! She is running against Nancy Pelosi!

Just ask the Daily Kos. They are threatening to go after Dems who support Pres. Bush in Iraq! (Democrats and Cannibals)

Stay tuned. We are watching the beginning of a real civil war. I'm not talking about Iraq. I'm talking about the war between the left and the center for control of the Dems!

Elvira and "caprichos"

Sometimes, the clowns are the politicians. Check this out from the Mexican Senate:

"We cannot remain quiet in view of this injustice and must ask for firm action from our authorities," Mexican Sen. Humberto Zazue said. He accused the United States of violating international deportation accords by denying her access to the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles." (Mexican Senate sides with mom deported from USA)

We don't know much about Senator Zazue.

Perhaps, he is not familiar with Elvira's case. Perphaps he is just singing to the base! (Mexico’s PRD “Circus”: Incompetence and Worse By Allan Wall)

Maybe he does not know that countries (including Mexico) have immigration laws. (Mexico's Immigration Law: Let's Try It Here at Home ) Maybe the Senator should read the Mexican law and discover what would happen to a foreign national violating Mexican law for ten years!

Maybe he is not aware that Elvira has been violating US immigration laws since 1997!

Maybe he does not know that Mexico is constantly deporting Central Americans who cross over! (Mexican envoy hits own policies) Mexico does not like illegal visitors, either!

Watch Elvira blame the US! It won't be long before Elvira has her own "tele-novela"!

For more on Elvira, see Arellano and the Rule of Law By Ruben Navarrette:

"Arellano entered the country illegally a decade ago, was deported, re-entered illegally, and then defied a second deportation order by holing up for months in a Chicago church.

Then she took an ego trip by going on a national tour in support of illegal immigrants.

Finally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) nabbed her in Los Angeles. Now her tour is canceled, and she is in Tijuana."

Sorry Elvira. I don't get to choose what laws I obey. You don't either! In other words, we live in a nation of laws rather than one of "caprichos"!

The NFL needs to be very tough with Michael Vick

Frankly, I've been avoiding the Michael Vick story because everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

Sometimes, the media hysteria turns out to be wrong, as we learned in the case of the 3 Duke students.

It's bad enough that there were allegations of dog-fighting. However, there are also allegations of unspeakable cruelty against these dogs.

What happens next?

The NFL is right to suspend Vick indefinitely. Should he play after jail and extended suspension? Let's cross that bridge later.

For now, Vick needs severe punishment and a long time away from the field.

The Dems do "Le freak"

Back in the disco days, there was a very popular dance song by Chic called "Le Freak":

"All that pressure got you down

Has your head spinning all around...Aaahh Freak out!

Le Freak, C'est Chic

Freak out!

Aaahh Freak out!" (Chic - Le Freak)

It didn't win any awards but it applies to the Dems freaking out over the good news coming out of Iraq.

"Aware of the trouble Iraqi progress could mean for Democrats at home — House Whip James Clyburn recently said if the surge were successful, it would be "a real problem for us" — a revised set of talking points is being worked up by Democrats that declares the escalation of troops in Iraq has not been successful despite White House claims otherwise."

Can you believe these people? Success in Iraq is "a real problem for us"?

Speaking of our efforts in Iraq, Michael Yon has another great post from the battlefield. Click here!

Thursday's show: Allan Wall and an update from Mexico

Our friend, Allan Wall, joined us on Thursday's show for an update on the Mexican situation.

We will review Plan Mexico, a proposed US-Mexico joint venture to fight the drug war. In principle, I support this plan but let's read the details.

You can listen live at 5pm central time. Or you can click here!

What a crazy night in Baltimore!

The Texas Rangers have been a major disappointment in 2007. In fact, I can't wait for the post-season so that I can cheer for the Brewers or Twins!

Yesterday, the Rangers played a weird game. They won 30-3. This is not the Cowboys vs Ravens. This is Rangers vs Orioles.

You have to read it to believe it! (Record numbers for Rangers) This is the most runs scored in 100 years! (Most runs in a game) Last, but not least, listen to Eric Nadel and Victor Rojas call the last 3 runs!

2007 has been a season of frustration compounded by more frustration. Last night, the Rangers, and some pathetic Oriole pitching, gave us a decent memory from an otherwise horrible season!

The Dems are the "looking for negatives" party

The Jeffersons were one of the best TV shows of the 1970's.

One of my favorite character was George's mom played by the late Zara Cully. On the show, Mother Jefferson was forever putting Louise Jefferson (Isabel Sanford) down.

Poor Louise could not do anything right! Louise had to suffer from Mother Jefferson's bad case of "negative-itis"!

The Dems can not sit back and smell the roses. They can not say that the surge is working, we are beating Al Qaeda and the outlook is brighter. They can't enjoy one for the good of the country. They fear that success in Iraq is good for Bush.

The bad news is that the Dems have become the "negative party".

The good news is that the country is not buying the "everything is negative" game. (Congress Approval Rating Matches Historical Low: Just 18% approve of job Congress is doing)

In other words, Democrats were elected to work with Pres. Bush and get something done. So far, they seem more interested in playing "gotcha" and investigating everyone with an "R" next to his name.

Now, the Dems agree that the surge is doing well but the political situation is not. (Democrats Refocus Message on Iraq After Military Gains)

I agree with that to a point. However, it's easy to sit here (without bombs going off) and criticize Iraqi politicians for failing to meet benchmarks.

It is even sillier when the Dems can't meet their own benchmarks or move their new majority to do a thing!

Nevertheless, what are the Dems proposing? Should our special forces take down Maliki's government? What would Dems say then? Besides, what happens if we replace Maliki? (Blaming Maliki -Washington Post)

The Dems have not changed. They don't have any answers or solutions. They just read polls and look for the partisan advantage!

Sarkozy is right to correct Chirac's mistakes

Jacques Chirac was determined to save Saddam Hussein. It wasn't an act of friendship or loyalty. It was all about The Oil for Food program, the most corrupt UN enterprise ever. In other words, Saddam took "good care" of Chirac!

Nicholas Sarkozy has put France on a new path. It makes sense. We should applaud him. (Sarkozy 'corrects' Chirac's errors By Amir Taheri)

This week, France made an official visit to Iraq. (France shifts its stance on the conflict in Iraq) Why the new direction in Iraq? Because the French recognize that a failed Iraq is a huge threat to the region. Worse than that, it will encourage the young men burning cars around Paris.

This is a global war and France is finally on board thanks to their new president. Keep it up Sarkozy!

Captain Ed has a new look and a great post about Iraq

As I wrote before, Captain Ed is one of my favorite blogs. Today, Captain Ed has a new look and a wonderful post about Iraq:

"Everyone knows what they're thinking. If they get outmanuevered again, the Democrats will catch hell from the activist base of their party and likely wind up losing the House to the Republicans in 2008. They can't afford to work cooperatively with the people Pelosi and Reid have successfully demonized with their voters, or they will look like complete hypocrites. That's the wages of demagoguery, and payday's coming in September." (Democrats Miscalculate On Iraq)

Check the full post and the blog's new look!

Who is the lady on the stage?

Senator Clinton continues to say that she has the experience to be president. Where is this specific experience in her resume? Besides being Mrs. Clinton, what else has this lady done?

Has she ever run a company? a public department?

Let me ask again. If her name was Hillary Rodham, would anybody take her candidacy seriously.

Senator Hillary Clinton is completely unprepared for the presidency.

Bad night for Rosie and the 9-11 conspiracies!

The History Channel is usually pretty good. Last night, they were excellent. The HC nailed for once and for all the 9-11 conspiracies promoted by the likes of Rosie and lots of left wing headcases.

Rick Moran has a great summary:

"The documentary took no prisoners as it destroyed almost all of the major conspiracy theories associated with 9/11 while revealing the real motivations of the truthers; that they are part of a political movement driven by raw, unreasoning hatred of George Bush, the American government, and to some extent, America itself." (9/11 TRUTHERS GUT PUNCHED BY HISTORY CHANNEL)

It's amazing what's happened to the American left since VP Gore lost Tennessee in 2000! In simple language, they lost their heads and went crazy!

Democrats and Iraq today

The latest Dems' debate was OK. I did not hear anything worth quoting.

The best question was the one left unanswered. ("Were you tricked"?)

Hillary Clinton went into an amazing explanation about how Pres. Bush did not live up to giving the inspectors a chance to look for WMDs.

This is not a new line. She has tried this before. It is her latest way of explaining the war vote without admitting that it was a mistake, as John Edwards.

It's a very tricky dance! It works in front of Democrats who simply cover their noses and pretend. It won't work when she is standing next to Giuliani, McCain, Thompson or Romney. They are not going to let her get away with it! (HILLARY’S HYPOCRISY ON IRAQ By Dick Morris and Eileen McGann)

By the way, this explanation does not go over well with the leftist bloggers either! (Hillary Clinton's history lesson by Matthew Yglesias)

Someone from the press desk asked: Were you tricked, Senator Clinton?

We did not get an answer to that question.

Why? Because Senator Clinton will have to admit that her husband, the former president, lied to her about Saddam's WMDs, too.

What do you do when your husband goes on national TV, orders an attack on Iraq and claims that Saddam has WMDs. Check your calendar! December 16, 1998!

What do you do when VP Gore goes on TV and blasts Bush-41 for leaving Saddam in power? (Watch this Video.)

What do you do when you vote for the war by claiming a connection between Saddam and Al Qaeda?

Frankly, Senator Clinton needs to answer the "were you tricked" question?

This woman wants to be president of the US but she allows herself to be tricked by a bunch of CIA bureaucrats!

Beyond that moment, it was the usual attack on Bush-Cheney, insurance companies, etc.

On Iraq, the Democrats are now talking about keeping a residual force to fight Al Qaeda and protect our interests.

Of course, this is what Pres. Bush is doing.

Also, this is not what the anti-war voters elected them to do. How many of these Dems say in the last election that their goal was to leave troops in Iraq?

Overall, I don't think that there is a person on that stage who can go one on one with Giuliani, McCain, Thompson or Romney.

No one on that stage has had any executive experience, except for Gov. Richardson. At the same time, New Mexico is a very small state.

There are legislators on that stage. Yet, we have not elected a legislator since John Kennedy in 1960. Before that, I can't think of another one! (Governors Win)

The polling date confirms my point.

Despite all of Pres. Bush's problems, the head to head polls show that the Dems are stuck in 40s. It can not be very encouraging to know that their candidates can't break out at a time like this.

At the same time, this is what happens when you put lightweights like Obama, Edwards and Clinton on the stage. (Sorry Joe Biden. You are the only adult on that playground!)

How Elvira and the Mexican flag wavers killed immigration reform

On immigration reform, I have a lot more in common with Bush and McCain than the "everything is amnesty" crowd. I have argued for years that the US needs a rational program to bring seasonal workers and more skilled ones, such as engineers.

We need them both.

What we don't need is Elvira and the Mexican flag wavers. They destroyed any chance for immigration reform with their arrogance, placards and total disrespect for the US, the nation that gave them work and the opportunity to send their kids to public schools and use city hospitals.

Why? Because Elvira and the flag wavers did not want to understand that we are nation of immigrants, but more importantly, a nation of laws!

Yesterday, Elvira blamed the US for Mexico's plight. (It's all NAFTA's fault!) Then she ranted that our immigration system is broken.

Indeed, our system is broken because Elvira and the flag wavers think that they are above the law.

Eventually, we will have a decent immigration overhaul. It won't happen until Elvira and the flag wavers get out of our TV screens!

Can we rely on our allies?

For years, we have heard that "multinational operations" are the way to go. Unfortunately, multinational operations require troops and our allies don't have them. Also, they are not willing to send the few troops that they have.

In Afghanistan, we are facing this reality. Everybody wants to enforce UN resolutions or fight terrorism. However, no one signs up when we pass the list around the room!

Allies refuse to send more troops to Afghanistan as death toll rises reminds us that we can not rely on our allies:

"British ministers and defence chiefs have complained that a number of European nations have refused to take an active role in the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF).

Even those who have sent troops have refused to allow them to engage in combat situations."

Our next president will have to deal with this reality. The moral of the story is that talking "working with our allies" is lot easier than getting them to send troops.

I guess Senator Hillary Clinton was right in
2003:

"With respect to whose responsibility it is to disarm Saddam Hussein, I just do not believe that, given the attitudes of many people in the world community today, that there would be a willingness to take on very difficult problems, were it not for the United States leadership, and I'm talking specifically about what had to be done in Bosnia and Kosovo where my husband could not get a Security Council resolution to save the Kosovar Albanians from ethnic cleansing. And we did it alone as the United States, and we had to do it alone. And so I see it somewhat differently. So forgive me for my experience and perspective."

In 2009, a Democrat or Republican president will inherit a world where our allies do not have troops or the willingness to use them.

Welcome to the real world! The world is a lot more complicated in the Oval Office than at a Dem Iowa debate!

The fence will stop the flow of guns into Mexico!

The "fence" is very unpopular in Mexico. Yet, what are Mexican politicians doing about the inflow of guns from the US. ('Cop-killer' guns from US seen crossing into Mexico)

It's easy to blame US gun laws or the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution.

It's a lot more complicated to explain how or why the guns go south.

The guns are going in because of corruption and an open border. Also, Mexico has turned into a very violent country.

Mexicans have argued that an open border is good for them, i.e. export people and remesas.

Yet, the unintended consequence is that an open border is also an avenue for guns to go south.

It may be time to build the fence to keep the guns from crossing the border!

Sanctuary cities should be denied federal funds!

According to the latest Rasmussen:

"Fifty-eight percent (58%) of voters nationwide favor cutting off federal funds for “sanctuary cities” that offer protection to illegal immigrants." (
71% Favor Requiring Foreign Visitors to Carry Universal ID Card)

It makes sense to me. Sanctuary cities promote chaos because they are defying the rule of law.

Not surprisingly, the public mood is getting more and more sour on immigration reform:

"A recent survey found that
79% of voters favor strict measures requiring employers to fire workers who provide false identification documents.

Seventy-four percent (74%) also believe that proper identification should be required for anyone to rent an apartment."

Why? Because illegal immigration is chaos. You can see this chaos in our cities, school districts, hospitals, etc.

Recently Rep. Lamar Smith
wrote:

"The public officials who openly advocated the creation of "zones of protection" for lawbreakers are responsible for contributing to a flood of illegal immigrants in this country today. These policies have created an even bigger illegal immigration problem."

He is right. Sanctuary cities are a magnet for illegal immigrants, the good ones as well as the bad ones! Unfortunately, sanctuary cities are attracting criminal elements, such as repeat offenders and gang members.
We saw this in Newark, where three good teenagers bound for college were killed by someone who should have turned over to ICE years ago! (Newark Triple Murder Fuels Debate on Treatment of Illegal Immigrants)

As I have written before, it is the duty of the federal government to protect our borders. It's time for Pres. Bush to call on some of these cities to respect law. Otherwise, he should sign an executive order denying federal funds.

Again, this is about the rule of law. We should not live in a society where people choose what laws to respect. (Mark Steyn: Speaking of sanctuary, where's ours?)

The public wants immigration laws enforced, and now! (Public Support Strong for New Immigration Enforcement)

P.S. Speaking of the 2008 election, I continue to insist that immigration is going to be sleeper issue. (Immigration In '08)

Let's help Peru!

Peruvians have many reasons to be proud of their history. The Incas were a great people and left us many masterpieces. Today, Peru is another underachieving Latin American country with too many poor people and not enough property rights!

Peru is also the birthplace of Hernando de Soto---ILD, one of my favorite economists! Unfortunately, Peru's politicians have not listened to Mr. De Soto. Otherwise, their poor country would be a lot more prosperous.

Mr. de Soto has fresh ideas. See Giving the Poor Their Rights!

A few days ago, Peru had a terrible earthquake. Like other underdeveloped countries, Peru lacks the resources and infrastructure to face this natural disaster. As Mr. de Soto has said, poverty and underdevelopment compound these tragedies!

Peru Quake Survivors Grow Desperate By FRANK BAJAK is sad. Peru’s Troops Try to Restore Order in Areas Hit by Quake is pretty bad, too!

It's time for everyone to do their small part and contribute to Peru's victims.

PM Rod-Zapatero would rather talk about the fence than his own immigration problems!

Spain's PM JL Rodriguez-Zapatero took a cheap shot at the US during a recent visit to Mexico City.

He criticized the fence under construction at the US-Mexico border. ("There is no wall that can obstruct the dream of a better life,")

What "better life" is PM Rod-Zapatero talking about? Could it be the "better life" that Mexicans find in the US rather than Mexico?

Of course, taking shots at the fence is great stuff in front of Mexican politicians. Why not destroy the fence that Mexico has built? (i.e. country can't create jobs!)

Why is PM Rod-Zapatero taking shots at US immigration concerns. Because PM Rod-Zapatero does not want to talk about Spain's own problems:

"It could be that Zapatero was just trying to divert attention away from a damning report by the New York-based Human Rights Watch that accuses Spanish authorities of mistreating and neglecting hundreds of migrant African children at holding centers on the Canary Islands.

Or perhaps he was still fuming that US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, during her recent six-hour stopover in Madrid, did not extend the long-awaited invitation for Zapatero to visit the White House.

But within Europe, few countries have a more troubled-indeed contradictory-approach to illegal immigration than does Spain." (Spain's Bluster Masks an Immigration Crisis By Soeren Kern, Senior Analyst for Transatlantic Relations at the Madrid-based Grupo de Estudios Estrat├ęgicos / Strategic Studies Group.)

In this article, Soeren Kern points out that Spain is desperately in need of labor:

"Another reason is because at 0.7 children per woman, Spain has one of the lowest birthrates in the world, and studies show that to keep the Spanish pension system from bankrupting, immigrants will have to make up 20 percent of Spain's population by 2030.

Spain's demographic crisis is so troubling that Zapatero has just promised to pay a 2,500 euro ($3,400) "baby bonus" for every newborn child as an incentive to boost the birthrate."

Spain's dilemma is simple: No babies and a socialist prime minister who runs away from terrorists!
