A few days ago, Gov. Romney released a new immigration ad.
Someone at the Romney campaign gets it.
The public wants laws enforced and the border protected. After that, let's talk about bringing more immigrants:
"As President, I'll oppose amnesty, cut funding for sanctuary cities and secure our borders.
Gov. Romney is hitting the right note here. This is a debate about illegal immigration not about immigrants who are here legally or those who are playing by the rules waiting to come in.
This is about the rule of law, as many Democrats are learning the hard way. (Democrats face law and order dilemma By David Paul Kuhn)
Opposition to illegal immigration is not partisan.
Rasmussen Reports has a new poll out today: 73% Say Police Should Check to See If Traffic Violators are in the Country Legally!
A few days ago, Rasmussen Reports released this poll: 77% of American adults do not think illegal immigrants should be allowed to receive a drivers license!
These are not partisan numbers, such as the ones that you see on the Iraq War. These numbers confirm that both parties can not waffle on this issue. (See Dems Must Get Serious About Illegals By Froma Harrop)
How big an issue will it be in 2008? I think that immigration will drive millions to the polls and it will decide several states.
P.S. See A Watershed Moment on Immigration By Michael Barone:
"One voter after another complained that the immigration laws were not being enforced.
None of them made any derogatory remarks about Latino immigrants -- two said they admired how hard they work.
They don't want to see Latinos banished from this country. They want the immigrants here to be legally here."
