The polls are not clear on an Iraq withdrawal

We continue to hear that the public wants troops withdrawn from Iraq. Yet, a new Gallup poll does not confirm that:

"In general, these data suggest that Bush administration policy in Iraq is well within the acceptable range for the American public. The results seem to suggest that as long as the administration is beginning the process of withdrawing at least some troops from Iraq, a majority of the American public will be satisfied."

This is why the Democrat presidential candidates are backing off. They are calling for an end to the war but not one will commit to withdrawing all of our troops by 2013!

The Democrat Congressional leadership is also backing off. They want to end the war but do not have the courage to cut the funding.

Who would have believed this 9 months ago?

I agree with Brian Faughnan:

"In particular, this points up the risks to Democrats of forcing a precipitous withdrawal. If the American people are content with the current plan--as they evidently are--do Democrats really want to take on the political risk of forcing a dramatic course change, especially of it leads to more trouble in Iraq?"

In fact, 2008 may give us a Democrat and Republican who basically agree on Iraq. Who would have believed that last spring?

I feel sorry for the liberals who invested all of their hopes and dreams in Pelosi and Reid! I guess that the moral of the story is to to avoid poll readers because they usually end up reading polls!
