In a perfect world, Mexicans could stay home and enjoy a prosperous life. Also, Mexican presidents would stop pretending that Mexicans can violate US immigration laws without consequences.
Former Pres. Fox was in Dallas last week. He did not make a lot of friends in the Dallas area. My guess is that he won't be selling a lot of books in Dallas.
I don't plan to buy one! Also, Pres. Fox was critical of Irving, TX. Yet, Irving is one of a growing number of cities and counties going after illegal immigration. In Virginia, Prince William County is ready to approve some of the nation's most stringent immigration laws. (County set to deny illegals)
At the same time, I will confess that I supported Vicente Fox in 2000 because Mexico had to break the PRI's hold on power. Also, I think that history will be kind to Pres. Fox because he was forced to deal with some of Mexico's impossible problems. Last, but not least, I give Vicente Fox a lot of credit for running for president and trying to do something about his nation's problems!
On immigration reform, Pres. Fox, like Pres. Calderon, are turning off the US public because of their attitude that Mexicans do not have to respect US immigration laws as long as someone offers them a job. Of course, Pres. Calderon does deport Central Americans for crossing illegally into Mexico.
I agree with Mark Davis:
"In fact, we will never solve illegal immigration as long as the occupant of the Mexican presidential palace is an ardent supporter of it, as Vicente Fox was. And is." (Mark Davis: Getting in the way of a solution )
We need to sit down and figure out a solution with Mexico. It would help if Mexican politicians would stop blaming the US for Mexico's inability to create jobs south of the border. It would be better for Pres. Calderon to call on US manufacturers to bring their labor intensive operations to Mexico. Wouldn't it better to hire Mexicans legally in Mexico! Wouldn't it make more sense for these workers to spend their salaries and pay taxes in Mexico?
