My interview with Allan Wall

Today, I spent a wonderful hour with Allan Wall from Mexico. It was very informative. Allan's articles can be found here! (Mexidata.info)

Allan and I spoke at length about today's events in Sonora. (Brazen raid in Mexico seen as change for worse) (Can Mexico Win Its Drug War?))

We also spoke about the Mexican military and Pres. Calderon. (Mexico takes a risk using soldiers in drug war)

During the interview, I referred to several articles.

First, this is the website of women calling for their husbands. This is very tragic.

Mexican wives seek ouster of husbands from U.S. By Stephen Dinan:

"The women of Tecalpulco have come up with one way to cope. They run an artists' cooperative to sell traditional-style jewelry, including through the Internet.

The page where they make their personal pleas, www.artcamp.com.mx/venga/, is a part of their Web site."

Deadbeat Dads Don’t Stop At The Rio Grande by Allan Wall. This is the article that introduced me to Allan's work.

Mujeres y familia, víctimas de la migración masculina, El Universal, May 19th, 2003. This is typical of some of the stories in the Mexican press about this problem.

Mexican Children are Migrating Alone to the USA By Barnard R. Thompson. This is a very sad story of children coming to the US.

You can not blame any of this on US immigration laws.

You must direct your criticism to the Mexican government and its unwillingness to deal with domestic problems.

We can do our part by helping Mexico attract more investment and develop its economy.

At the end of the day, this is Mexico's challenge. Mexico must be willing to change.
