If left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al-Qaeda members. (Senator Hillary Clinton, Oct 2002)
Between now and election day, Hillary Clinton will take many positions on Iraq.
Between now and the primaries, she will move to the left to react to the pressure coming from Edwards and Obama.
After the primaries, she will move to the right and position herself against McCain, Guiliani or Romney.
Today, Hillary Clinton proposed a rather bizarre solution:
"Amid a flurry of backroom negotiations yesterday afternoon, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) took the Senate floor to join Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert C. Byrd (W.Va.) in offering a bill that would sunset the 2002 authorization of military operations in Iraq. It would take away the president's authority to wage war in Iraq five years to the day after it was granted, meaning Bush would be required to convince Congress to reapprove it in October." (Clinton Changes Tone on Iraq)
This is such a stupid idea that the Republicans should demand an up and down vote on it. Let's force the Democrats to say yes or no!
Of course, there won't be a vote on this idea.
Under our Constitution, the Democrats can end this war very quickly. All that they have do is cut the funding.
Why won't they do it? The answer is simple. They don't want to be responsible for anything:
"They have a Constitutional mechanism for doing just that, and it bypasses a veto by simply stopping the funds for the war. However, that would leave Democrats responsible for the catastrophe that would follow an American retreat from Iraq and its devastating impact on the Middle East and our credibility against radical Islamist terrorists. They're not looking for a way out, they're looking to score partisan points, and Hillary has just decided to play the game." (Ed Morrissey)
Hillary Clinton is a fraud! Gallup says that Clinton's image has consistently moved into the negative territory. Wonder why?
