It's true that Pres. Nixon met Chairman Mao in 1972. However, Mao was not supporting terrorism. Also, Pres. Nixon was in the middle of a geopolitical strategy involving China and the USSR. Also, China had a billion people and huge economic potential.
Syria does not meet that standard. Syria is a rogue state. Syria does not offer economic potential. In fact, Syria is just another corrupt Middle East state run by a few people.
They do not deserve a face to face meeting with a US politician, specially the Speaker of the US House.
