Some of you in Mexico have asked: Why do US cartoonists use a donkey for Democrats and an elephant for Republicans?
It started many years ago. They are the party mascots.
Frankly, I have never understood why the Democrats want a donkey as their mascot. Of course, I don't understand a lot of things about Democrats. They are the "donkey party" in my book!
