Memo to Republicans: Punch back!

Hey Republicans, fight back. Don't take it. Specially, don't take Democrat hypocrisy.

Am I supposed to punish my congressman because Mark Foley turned out to be a jerk? At the end of the day, that's the real question.

There are 435 members of Congress. Each district will have its own election based on local and national issues.

Will people punish their congressman because Mark Foley turned out to be a jerk? I don't think so.

For 20 years, my congressman was Dick Armey, one of the best conservatives ever. Would I punish him because a fellow Republican turned out to be a corrupt man?

Some people will. Most people won't. This is why incumbents usually get reelected.

Speaking of the upcoming election, the Foley scandal won't be last October surprise. The Democrats are desperately trying to win back the House and Senate. A few months ago, they were so confident that they bought the new drapes for their larger offices.

Today, the polls say otherwise.

Pres. Bush has successfully turned the 2006 midterm into a national security referendum. This is not going to be an election about global warming, Katrina or whether the world loves the US. Instead, this is an election about protecting the homeland and the Democrats can't hit that pitching.

It's coming. We are about to see a Category 5 round of cheap shots. Check out
Dem Timing Plays & GOP Silver Bullets By Jed Babbin:

"This year, polls show Democrats aren't doing as well as they'd thought on key issues such as winning in Iraq, homeland vulnerability to terrorist attack and the need to keep the economic boom going. To counter their structural weaknesses, as I predicted in this space since August, the 527 Media - the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, ABC -- are producing "October surprises" at a tremendous pace. So far we've seen them make a major story of the Senate Democrats' attempt to revive the discredited "revolt of the generals" followed quickly by the leaked National Intelligence Estimate and then the new Bob Woodward book, "State of Denial."

Get ready. Don't panic but fasten your seat belts. We will hold the House and Senate if Republicans turn out to vote!

Let me repeat. We will hold the House and Senate if Republicans turn out to vote! Normally, Republicans vote in larger numbers than the other guys! We are more disciplined on election day.

This is about turnout rather than Mark Foley!

Fight back. Don't be afraid to stand up to Democrats.

The WSJ's lead editorial Getting Beyond Foley is a good message for all conservatives:

"We've seen no evidence to date that he lied or attempted a cover-up. His office responded to complaints from the parents of a former page by having the head of the page board and clerk of the House speak with Mr. Foley and order him to stop communicating with the minor."
