Last year, Pres. Bush put a Social Security plan on the table. Why?
Because the program won't survive the coming demographic tsunami. Sooner or later, we must raise taxes, cut benefits or fix the problem.
Last night, Pres. Bush spoke about it and the Democrats went into infantile applause. It was silly.
Perphaps, Pres. Bush should quote Pres. Clinton's dire remarks about the program. Maybe he should distribute videos of Clinton's '98 & '99 State of the Union addresses. (http://cantotalk.blogspot.com/2005/02/how-to-argue-with-liberalsjust-quote.html)
The Democrats should be reminded that we have a problem and it won't go away on its own.
Unrealistic entitlements are the legacy of the modern welfare state. To be fair, our problem is not as bad as Europe. At least, our economy is growing and theirs is not!
But we have a problem.
It's time for Democrats to sit down and present a plan to fix Social Security. Otherwise, they should get out of the way and let others govern!
