The late Senator Gene McCarthy

With all due respect to Sen. McCarthy's family, or supporters, I don't have a lot of memories of this politician beyond the 1968 campaign.

So I went back and re-read an article about McCarthy written in early 2004. It was a comparison of the McCarthy and Dean campaigns. It was entitled "From Gene to Dean: The children's crusade in American politics" by Andrew Ferguson (http://www.weeklystandard.com/Utilities/printer_preview.asp?idArticle=3584&R=C80B27C21)

McCarthy did have a great sense of humor. This is what he said about Senator Bobby Kennedy:

"A reporter asked McCarthy if he was upset that Kennedy had come in only after McCarthy had done the heavy lifting. McCarthy's response: "You don't blame the molecules for obeying the laws of physics." (quoted in The Power Line blog: http://powerlineblog.com/print.html)

You can read McCarthy's obituary in The Washington Post. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/10/AR2005121001454_pf.html)
